for all you crafty folks/hobbyists out there....

piano
composing ( mainly orchestral pieces of various sorts )
Collecting the " classics" in hardback. Right now i'm reading " Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". Alot of the books I buy are from used book stores so the hard cover editions are cheaper. = )

Right now, I'm in the middle of writing ( music ) my own score to the novel Farhenheight 451. I know, its been done already but I thought i'd do my own take on it.

I don't really craft stuff; I mean, I paint a little, and shoot some photos.

But I've seen what YOu do - you get really creative, Ann!

And there are some very good artists on this Forum.

And Tortuga makes great jewelry, and Alchemy utterly rocks, And Annie Hall has written some greta stuff, and Zod always has some great vehicles ..... too many "ands". There are some truly talented people on the TMF.

The best things I create are those that I really care about and put myself into. When I do things just for the sake of doing them, I seem to get stuck and not get much done....or at least done well. That's actually my biggest weakness as an artist. When I create something, it has to be just so. If I'm not into it, it's better to wait until I'm in the proper space so it's done "right". I'm sure other artistic folks can relate.

This makes complete sense. The stuff I do for other people is the stuff that never gets done, or comes out wrong.

The pictures I've seen of your most creative work are of the things most personal to yourself.

Actually, doing things for others as ooposed to doing them for myself doesn't seem to slow me down. If anything, I make a point of doing things for others more than for myself. I just need to be in the proper mindset to do them.

I have a long story I've been working on for over a year now. But, because I really want it done well, I have to write when the inspiration and mood are there. So, when life is busy/chaotic and I can't concentrate, I don't get much done. I have a half dozen chapters outlined in my head. But, if I'm not in the right frame of mind, what comes out is garbage. So...I wait.

I get that way too. A lot of writers do. But the thing to rememeber about that is often waiting for inspiration will get you nowhere - what if it doesn't come?

But writing a little every day can create patern that you can expand from. The bottom line is, no matter how bad something is you put on paper, you now have something to change and edit; something to improve later. If you have nothing written, all you have now is blank paper and can't change or improve that at all.

Now, if I would just take my own advice......

Drawing, editing (video), and music. I'm not exceptionally good at any of them, but I enjoy them nonetheless.
