I use several of these gags in my own play, both because they let my partners breathe more easily and because I just like them. Note also that most of the styles muffle laughter very little, but prevent speech very well.
Second, about safe-signals: I and others have mentioned this a few times already, but there are several effective ways to signal a problem even when gagged. "Shave and a haircut" is one of my favorites.

Looking at the "models" wearing gags only reinforces my opinion. Bondage gear intrigues me but I'm not interested in trying it at this time. They look extremely uncomfortable to me. If it looks uncomfortable, I'd rather not go there. Maybe a blindfold, maybe even restraints (someday far in the future), but I don't think I want to deal with gags. Way too much control to relinguish for my liking. I like being the one in control-I'm still getting used to playing as the lee.

Some are uncomfortable. Others aren't. Some gag-lovers enjoy the feeling of being "stretched" a bit. But it's really very difficult to make any general statement about all gags, because they're so variable.kis123 said:

But if the core issue is loss of control then that's a stopper: Gags are all about control, and there's no getting around that. People who like having their mouths and speech controlled love gags. Those who don't, don't.

A video we did recently called Half Bound Lotus had our girl Dorothy in a rubber ball gag. She liked the feeling of not really being able to stop the tickling by verbally begging, but then she really trusts us to know how to handle her. It was a bit large to keep in for more than a few minutes though, and caused a little bit of jaw soreness. I liked to hear a variation on her normal laughter and screaming, and hearing a little bit more of helplessness out of her.

I'd be definitely be up for a gag if I were on the receiving end of a tickling. Never mind that my friends wish they had ones for other reasons- like stopping ramblings or bad puns. I'd go for the gag for the following reasons.
1) I'm hyper ticklish enough that I'd still be howling with laughter even through the gag. It'd probably be the only reason why the neighbors wouldn't get weirded out.
2) The added element of bondage is an extra turn on. Add a blindfold and other restraints to it... Mmmmm...
3) The extra sensitivity would go exclusively into the tickling.
4) Trust is a key factor and I think it'd make it better for both myself as a lee or ler and vice versa for the person doing the tickling or tickling the ever loving snot out of me.

Oh, I don't mind removing the gag. But I"m not sure that means the 'lee gets to talk, even so.
