The secular Jewish historian, Jocephus, does mention Jesus once in passing. This is the only secular mention of which I am aware that Jesus did exist. I will have to track down the actual quote.

TD

That'd be interesting to have a look at TD. I'll certainly read it with great interest. I think I might already know of the quote you're talking about, but I'll wait and see.

gee phil at first i was sorry to see you go

after your last post, once again blaming the jews for christs death,
i can no longer say i'm sorry to see you go!
i will once again try to give you a salient fact; there are only two way that the ancient jew preformed executions, stoning, and throwing the condemed off a cliff, to fall to their death. we never hanged anyone, and the only group to crucify people was the romans!
god, get it right will you?!?!
i don't think you realize how god awfull you sound! you must not realize how anti jewdism you sound! i don't believe you are a practicing anti semite, but you've obviously been raised to hate, and blame jews for all the worlds troubles.
the sad thing is that other than religious i respected your views, but i find your anti- jewish remarks very unsettling.
enjoy your time away.

2 books to read.

the first is "the source" by james a. michener.
he writes it as a fiction, for entertainment value, but lists all his reference material.
next is "the woman's encyclopedia of myths, and secrets" by barbara g. walker. great section of the myth of "jesus".
read these works, and then tell me you're so sure about who, and what jesus was.

OOoooooookay

Uh..... Steve, I came back to read your post, all that document was was something I copied and pasted from the said website, I didn't write a word of it, none of that guys opinions reflected any of mine it was just an article pertaining to historical refrences to Christ, I thought I made that clear I don't know why your getting pissed at me about it. But whatever, take care of yourself.

Steve, I think that article was from an essay about the Talmud, not 46's personal thoughts.

Roger that, I'll pay a visit to my town library to order them in. What's the stance the books take, philosophically speaking?

the source is a book about religion, done in an entertaining way. the back drop is a dig in isreal, early 1960's. it tells the history of religion in the area of the dig from 9000 b.c. to present. it is heaviest on hebrew history, but also goes into great detail on all other religions. it's kind of a series of short stories.
the encyclopedia of myths is just that, an encyclopedia of many topics. it has a long section about "jesus". many incredible tidbits of info. on the history of all the "jesuses" (emanual ben-joseph was the last one). it picks apart all the so called miricals, and myths about jesus, and is decidedly anti standard christian thinking.

both books are highly entertaining.

I'm going to wait until your personal crises are resolved 46and2, and THEN we're going to pick up where we left off. I'm not going any further without you.

Or unless dig_dug_dog shows up.
