'Great' films you just didn't get

Clerks - I really, really don't like Kevin Smith. I think he's a terrible writer and a bad filmmaker. Why this film got the attention it did I do not know. New Jersey has far more talented people to offer than the likes of Kevin Smith.

Furthermore - We should all just agree, right, that Smokey and the Bandit and Cannonball Run are the best movies ever made, yeah?

The Avengers is a superhero movie, and thus pretty much required to follow the generic storyline. It's worth it for the action and the one-liners from Downey, imo.

For the Kevin Smith haters.... Clerks resonated with me so much because I was working at a McDonald's when I first saw it. Everything about it was awesome to me.

As for me, I didn't like Interstellar. If it had ended with McConaughey dying as he entered black hole, that'd've been so much more preferable than what we did. It just took the film down another path, and I hated where it led.

My friends loved "Young Adult" and "Blue Jasmine." I didn't like either of them

Godfather III... I loved one and liked two, but the third... meh.

I saw Clerks again recently and I've found it doesn't age well on account of the difference in the generation gap. Nowadays, technology makes it more possible for people to realize their goals and pursue them than it would have been for twentysomethings in the early 90s, but no longer being in the same place as Dante was, it's a bit hard for me to sympathize with him anymore, or even Randal.

Young Adult I would call "undercooked": it had potential for more and never went there. It also made the character too pathetic to be truly villainous. You understood why she was the way she was early on and you felt more pity for her in her venality than hatred. It also doesn't help that the movie spends the first 8 minutes showing how empty and sorry her life is, but it only needs 30 seconds to show her interacting with her parents to realize how she got that way. Although I give it kudos for having a hot A-list actress hooking up with a shlubby, nerdy character and not have it feel forced or fanservice, but likely given how damaged they are.

Blue Jasmine was a weak movie with very strong acting. It's been a long time--probably since the 80s--when an Allen movie had such strong performances (I take that back--Sweet & Lowdown was the last one I can think of), and to have Andrew Dice Clay in scenes with Alec Baldwin where Clay actually out-acts Baldwin was something I never thought I'd live to see.
