This thread might not take off, but I'll give it a shot anyway!

Who are some of the best bands you've seen live?

I'd go for:

Motorhead, Newcastle City Hall, 2003.
Iron Maiden, Metro Radio Arena, also 2003.
Oasis, Heaton Park, Manchester, 2009.
Rancid, 02 Academy Newcastle, 2006
Coldplay, Sunderland's Stadium of Light, 2012.

Speaking of OPs region of the world... I'll be able to put The Who on my list once I see their Quadrophenia tour in February! I'm quite psyched. Such a great album.

The Police- Bonnaroo (tripped my face off while listening to them riding the ferris wheel)
Tool-Bonnaroo (Tom Morello came out and jammed with them)
Flaming Lips=Bonnaroo (played a cover of "War Pigs" that was amazing)
Wu-Tang Clan, Rakim, EPMD- Philly Pier
Graveyard- Golden West Cafe, Baltimore
Cypress Hill- 930 Club, DC
System of a Down- Ozzfest at Nissan Post Pavillion in VA
High on Fire- Rock and Roll Hotel, DC
Mastadon- Patriot Center, VA
The Wailers- Belmont VA (got back stage and met a few f the origianl members on my birthday)

So many other great shows too but those were the most memorable

Love this thread!

Dispatch: Chastain Park in Atlanta, Georgia
RHCP: New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana
Stevie Wonder: Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee
FlowTribe: Any hole-in-the-wall bar in New Orleans,Louisiana

Looks like we have a few Bonnaroo alumni in the house.

I can't say any of my favorite performances ever came from there, but I had a damn blast the three times I went! (2003,2004,2010)

I went '08 and '09! One of the main reasons I went back in '09 was to see Tenacious D and they rocked but Stevie Wonder was a presence on stage! 🙂

Many, too many to list, but here's one that stands out in my mind. In the 1980's in was living in Houston. Fitzgearld's is a funky old blues bar on White Oak Dr. in The Heights, and I was a regular. One night I paid $5 to see Stevie Ray Vaughn before he really hit it big. Around midnight in walks Steve Perry, Steve Smith and Jonathan Cain of Journey. Later that night they joined Vaughn on stage and jammed for about an hour. I was never a big Journey fan, but it turns out Steve Perry was a damn fine blues singer. I'll never forget that night.

SRV would have been fantastic to see live. I've seen Steve Vai live, which has to count for something!

Daman, I'm hoping to go back to TN this summer if the line up is respectable.

Metallica in March 2009 was a very special gig as well, not to mention absolutely fantastic!

I saw Stevie Ray live several times, the man was a master of the guitar. His premature death was a hugh blow to lovers of blues. We will never know what we missed out on...

AHHHH! As I contribute to this amazing thread I find out that Yes will be in Omaha on March 14!

They are doing a tour where they will play the albums "The Yes Album," "Close to the Edge" and "Going for the One" start to finish.

NICE! There's gotta be some Yes fans around these parts.

Back in the 1970's I saw Genesis perform The Lamb Lays Down On Broadway, not long before Peter Gabriel left the band. That was (is) a memorable night.

sooo many but ill put few...rob zombie, godsmack, motorhead, heaven and hell, judas priest, testament, quiet riot, styx, alice cooper, Ted Nugent and like a bazillion more lol

Way too many to list, but here's some that had up and coming groups that were opening acts before they were headliners...
1974--Fleetwood Mac (before "Rumors") w/Rod Stewart
1974--Lynyrd Skynyrd (original line-up) w/Rod Stewart...yep, same show
1976--Montrose w/Kiss..Alive! tour (some may remember that Sammy Hagar was the lead singer. I also saw Sammy as "The Red Rocker" and also with Van Halen!)
1977--Cheap Trick w/Kiss..Alive II! tour
1977--Journey (before "Infinity") w/Emerson, Lake and Palmer
1982--Def Leppard (just before "High 'n Dry") w/Billy Squire
1983--Motley Crue w/Kiss..10th Anny. tour
early 90's--Alice in Chains w/Van Halen..For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour
early 90's--Korn w/Metallica..Reload tour
1982--best stadium show line-up...Foreigner, Scorpions, Loverboy, Iron Maiden
...just my two cents...

Bonarroo is awesome but i have found some other festivals that I want to go to. Wakarusa, DeLuna Fest, Hangout fest are just a few. Jam Cruise may be my honeymoon (If I have a say!).

I've seen The Who, Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Santana, Grateful Dead, U2, Pretenders, Genesis, Aerosmith, Van Halen with David Lee Roth, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Madonna, Elton John, Billy Joel, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to name a few. All were so good, it is hard to pick a favorite!

Guided By Voices- Hopscotch Music Festival- Raleigh, NC- September 2011

The Pixies- War Memorial Auditorium- Greensboro, NC- November 2011

Robin Trower, Todd Rundgren and Jethro Tull at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, around 1975. Blues greats Roy Buchanan, Albert Collins and Lightnin' Hopkins when I lived in Houston.

Too many to list, but the first one that comes to mind is Fishbone at an outdoor festival in '91.

Zeppelin, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, Santana, Robin Trower, Bruce Springsteen, Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa, Eric Clapton, J. Giles, Aerosmith, Kiss, The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Commodores, The Rascals, and a slew of others I can't remember off the top of my head.

Genesis at the Hollywood Bowl on their Turn it On Again Tour. Just the fact that I got to see Phil Collins (one of my biggest heroes as a drummer) perform essentially his last drum solo made it a highlight of my life.

Iron Maiden's Golden Years Tour at the Forum in Inglewood. Still the absolute nicest crowd I have ever been apart of and only one or two songs short of being perfect.

Stanley Clarke. My introduction to Ronald Brunner, Jr. the best drummer I have ever had the pleasure of seeing live.

Symphony X at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip. Powerglove is still the best opening band I've ever seen. Got to sneek backstage and meet Russell Allen. And then met Michael LePond after the show. He gave me and my friends heartfelt advice about the nature of performing together, writing together, the music industry, and never giving up on your dreams before he walked me back to my car!!

Both times I've seen Steel Panther at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip. They put on a hell of a show.

And when I saw Roger Waters perform The Wall last year at the LA Colosseum. The crowd was terrible and I missed the first quarter but the rest of the show was so amazing and the experience of the spectacle made it worth it. It was awe-inspring.

I saw Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers in Raleigh back in 2008. They were really good.
