About an hour ago I returned from the hospital, after a two week long stay that included multiple chest drainage tubes, a surgical operation to remove a lung absess and clean the area in and around the left lung, and a four day recovery period during which many bodily fluids drained from my chest onto the bed before things finally healed up enough to stop.

I read through every response on the "Send Him Some Love" thread that my dearest IrishGirl started, and it's really tear jerking to see how much I was missed and how much support, prayer, and thought went out for me in my time of pain and recovery. Thank you all so VERY much!!! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

The point is, I'm back now. I'm not 100%, in fact far from it, but I do believe that my recovery will be complete for NEST in June!!

It's great to be back. I'll post a picture of my battlewound in all it's glory later when the dressing is off.

Viper my brother, good to see you're back, its only time before you're a 100%. Get well, my brother.

btw, still ready for your rematch??? :blaugh:

Welcome back, Vipe.

By the way, you are absolutely under NO obligation to post pictures of said wounds
:woot:

WOOHOOOO Welcome welcome back!!!! I am soooo glad to hear your out of the hospital and on your way to a full recovery. :justlips: :twohugs: :bouncybou

Here's my nice war wound.

There's a foot and a half long incision that the surgeons made, as you can see at the top. After cutting through the skin and muscle, the distance between one pair of my ribs, which is normally about half an inch wide, was spread to over three or four inches. The surgeons went in and scraped all the adhesions and scar tissue and God knows whatnot else out.

After this was completed, two half inch holes were cut underneath the incision. They are hidden under the dressing you see there. I'll be showing that when I get a shower, and have to tale the dressing off..that's when I'll snap one more picture. Anyway, the two holes were cut so that two half inch tubes could be inserted into my chest to drain the total of over 700 cc's of fluid that filled my chest after the surgery.

Before the surgery, a chest tube similar to the two inserted was placed to drain out about 800 cc's of fluid, some of which was infectious, greenish-yellow pus.

I lost over 20 pounds in the course of the last month.

oh...dude

i don't know if you were a smoker or not...but that pic is a good way to convince someone to quit.
hope the recovery is speedy. and, though we don't know each other, welcome back.

Glad to see you're on the road to recovery. Just take it slow with getting back into things. I've had pneumonia several times (without benefit of the added goodies you had to deal with) and ended up flat on my face when I tried to push to do things too quickly. Listen to your body. After all, you wouldn't want to miss NEST for something silly like trying to do too much too quickly.

I am glad you are back, Viper.
It looks and sounds a very painfull experience.
I wish you a full and fast recovery.

Good to see you back, Viper! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Here's another pic from my stay. These are the two chest tubes that were inserted into my side to drain the liquid after the operation. The amount of half inch tubing inside my chest was about a foot and a half each. Both were clogged with coagulated blood, which is part of why they were taken out.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Note: For your orientation convenience, I am laying on my right side, facing the direction my camera phone is coming from. My left shoulder is to the left of the picture (I had to hold my arm over my head for him to pull it out...it was like he was starting a law mower), and my waist is right there on the right side.

Welcome back, pal. It must feel good to be back home, eh? See you in June!

:bowing: DAMN! :bowing: My surgery was a paper cut compared to that!!! Wow Kiddo! I'm glad you're feeling better and hope your recovery is a quick one. But, as was mentioned before... don't try to do too much too fast. That looked like a pretty flippin' nasty wound!!!
If you can't make it to NEST... maybe you can go up to Michigan for the October gathering. I'm 98% sure I'll be there and I'd love to meet ya!
Take Care...
