Had to quit my job to take care of family with dementia.

I recently had to quit my job to be the full-time caregiver of my mother and stepfather. It's been...an ORDEAL to say the least. My stepfather constantly yells at me and accuses me of trying to do bad things. My mother constantly refuses to go to doctor appointments and to take her medication. I'm trying to hang in there as I love them both to death and their both paying me quite a lot to take care of both of them in their old age. My Mom was a literal life saver to me at one point in my life and my stepfather is a really good man who would never hurt anyone. I just feel so damn sad that THIS is their reward for living a decent life, slowly forgetting who, where, and when they are. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that maybe, just MAYBE a medical treatment that can reverse dementia and alzheimer's will come out before their illness claims what's left of them. 🙁

Is anyone else taking care of family in their old age? Just wondering.

I took care of my mom and dad. Dad had dementia. When he passed i needed to take care of mom. She died in 2020. I had 2 strokes two months later which cost me most of my eyesight and damaged other organs. It's been a long road back to being somewhat healthier. My advice to you is take care of yourself during this process so your health will always be good.

I was getting paid through the agency my mom used to work for in order to take care of both of my parents due to their declining health, which also included Dementia. I ended up quitting because I was burnt out from the toxic relationship I had with them, as well as working my other job at the time. When they were in the process of moving to a senior community, my mom was in and out of the hospital, and then suddenly died of a massive stroke shortly after coming home one day. Although my dad did move into that community, him being in and out of the hospital because of his health issues led to him moving into the nursing home he's in now. Although being on my own FINALLY gave me the independence I was longing for, and allowed me to heal from the emotional and psychological pain I suffered from living with my parents, my struggle with employment since I quit has been the biggest roadblock I'm still trying to get around. I have been making some kind of effort to bring money in, but having steady work again would be a huge help at the moment.

I'm sorry for your losses and I'm sorry to hear about your health
