Philadelphia Flyers defeat Montreal Canadiens 4-2 to win the series 5-1.

Now we do it for REAL!

The Hawks are going to destroy the Flyers!!!! Niemi is a GOD. His skills are crazy for a rookie. Sorry Flyer fans... Just can't see a 7 seed East Conf team taking it through a 2nd seed West Conf team after what the Hawks did to the 1st seed team San Jose. Now I may eat pie for all this trash talk.. and I will bake it myself if I have too 🙂 but I say 6 games Hawks... and thats being nice.
 
After watching the entire playoffs and seeing some major surprises, I'm not sure what to expect from a Blackhawks/Flyers finals. I mean, sure...you could go by "transient properties" and figure that the #2 beat the #1 in the west...and the 7th seed beat the 8th...who did knock off the defending champs...while the #7 did beat the top seed in the east...

...and all of it really means nothing until both teams actually take the ice. No one gave Philly a shot at beating the Devils...but, ok they did. But...there's NO WAY they get past the Bruins, especially after being down 3-0 in the series. Ok, they pulled THAT miracle off....BUT...Montreal took care of a strong defending team in the Penguins...so they are GOING to shoot down the upstart Flyers. Right?

Logically, the Blackhawks should prove to be too much for a Flyers team running on emotion. But, it's been more than just emotion and drive...Philly's been playing like the team most people thought they would be in the pre-season. Nobody gave the Giants a chance against an undefeated Patriots team in the Super Bowl of '07....but....

Sports are full of upsets, miracle comebacks and cinderella stories, it's why the games are actually played, rather than just having trophies given out to the top seeds. While my head would say Blackhawks, I gotta go with my gut here, stats be damned, and say Philly in a close Game 7.

Let the games begin! 🙂
 
*Sigh* I'm still personally in mourning of my Capitals....but I can put that aside and root for the Hawks in this one, cause I'm not fond of the Flyers personally.
 
Dave.. you make many great points.. and I do agree that the games are played for a reason. Like I said I might be eating a whole bunch of humble pie, but... they also said the Hawks goalie is too young to really know how to play in the big games and that it would be a great test for him for later in his career. Yet there they stand with Niemi only giving up 7 goals to the Sharks. Yes The Flyers have over came great odds and really shown that they are a team to respect... but the 0-3 come back was a once is a era thing.. you don't see it often. Only 4 teams in history has done it The Maple Leafs, The Islanders, The Red Sox, and now the Flyers. Its more the other team lost it. Let their gaurd down. 1-3 they think. ok so we didn't sweep them.. we will get them next game..2-3... most teams still think ehhh.. we still have this.. its when it becomes 3-3 that anything can happen and the other team has lost so much morale. I truely believe that if the Hawks come to play and respect the Flyers as a team to reckon with then the Hawks will take it... still sticking by my guns with 6 games.
 
while the hollywood brother isn ot a very big hockey fan hey, the hollywood brother thinks that the flyers might go all the way. the flyers have a olympic hero in this gagne jabroni and the one team that can easily stop the flyers is the pittsburgh team and they is out the playoffs. what is getting to the hollywood brother is all these people who talk down on hockey now suddenly being the biggest hockey fan because by have the flyers in it, you get a big market team that cna sell lots of merchandise and make lots of money. the hollywood brother hopes for the people that are real hockey fans hey that they enjoy the stanley cup but there is a question if all these fair weather hockey fans should be allowed to enjoy the series as well?

@ Luv2 - You, sir, also make very good points. I'm not the biggest fan of either team (Devils, Sabres and Penguins!), but I don't hate either one. My logical head does say "Chicago". I've just seen too many pieces of sports history to ever count it out in any given championship. I gotta stick with my gut and say the Flyers just pull it out. Just a feeling. 🙂
 
Dave- I am certainly not counting out the Flyers. They are in the Stanley Cup for a reason. More so in Hockey do you not make it that far on just a wave. They are a good team and I may have been quick to say the Hawks will destroy the Flyers ( my Hawk fan took over a bit LOL ). I think its going to be a very hard fought series and a very physical one. As a Hockey fan I a really looking forward to it... as a Hawks fan I hope they do destroy them 🙂

Hollywood- Remember now.. the Flyers are not the only one with a huge Olympic player. Towes was on the Canadian Olympic team and was a huge factor for them.
 
Back in 1975, I had the honor to escort the Stanley Cup Champions Philadelphia Flyers down Broad Street with our drum corps playing God Bless America. Later in the stadium, we were introduced to Kate Smith. I shook hands with her. Most of the guys, including myself, not only understood hockey, but played it in street hockey or organized teams.

I still remember it like it was yesterday. BTW, I was the insane one by playing goaltender. I also coached and officiated.

I WANT ANOTHER PARADE DOWN BROAD STREET!
 
the hollywood brother would love another parade down broad street. it would bring lots of money to the area because everyone would have to buy new orange and black warbdobes to show there fandom hey. the chicago team is a good team in the eye of the hollywood brother but the hollywood brother think that the flyers are on hot streak and that might help flyers win and get to drink alcohol from the cup of the lord stanley.

Well, the 'Hawks take the first game...but a wild one! 6-5 and none of the scores coming from the "marquee" players. 32 shots on goal from each team.

Like I said...it's gonna be a close, crazy finals! Go Flyers!!!
 
Hawks take take second game now up 2-0... just a fun fact.. Home teams that have swept the first two games in a Stanley Cup Final has won the series 31 out of 33 times.. now I know there are still two games to win.. but oh man.. I'm a little excited LOL

And one of those two teams to come back and win were last year's Penguins. What are the odds a PA team can come back from that deficit two years in a row?

The first game was the most unorganized rout I have every witnessed in a professional hockey game. Shots from wild angles, long passes, missed opportunities.

The Hawks were lucky to extract themselves with a win. Yesterday was even worse for the Flyers. I walked away to get something from the kitchen. Within a matter of 28 seconds, YES SECONDS,Chicago goes up by 2.

What the hell is the matter with Philly?

Hope things change tomorrow night.
 
How are the Sabers doing (probably lousy ~_~)?

They're my home town team.
 
Well as bud light says.. Here we go!.. still sticking to my guns with Hawks in 6 but WOW did they just look like crap tonight.
 
Philly.. first I must say... well played series. Your team fought back time after time and shown the world that they were more than just a 7th seed team. After saying that...... THE CUP IS FINALY BACK IN CHICAGO!!!! Just like I called it Hawks in 6. SOOOOOOO EXCITED.. parade at 10:30am Friday.. its going to be crazy!!! CONGRATS HAWKS AND THANK YOU!!!!!
