I love interactive stories

It's not a link because you can't click on it. It's a url - a web address.

You can type it in exactly as written or copy and paste it into a web browser address bar and the page will open.

If I post it as a link then I get alot of automated traffic (robots) using the link and trying to access the site. As I don't want the site indexed and there is nothing there for them anyway I've not used a link.

Make a story? If you want to I can create a directory for you and you can start your own or invite other people to contribute. Try out the program first in the sandbox as I have tested it but because I wrote the program I know what to feed in for responses. I could do with some other people trying it out.

I hope to have several stories started once I'm happy that the program works OK.

hey, smade just wondering, why dont spaces register with the sandbox program?

thanks for the kind words, I'm starting a bit small

also, lets say (in theory) I create two different paths, is there anyway, after the different events of the first set, can I create a link to a page in the second set

If others confused:

lets say

1
23456
789 can I link page 6 to page 10, even though page 9 leads to it as well?

Thanks

The text you enter in is in plain text and gets inserted into a html page. In html the new lines and the paragraphs done in plain text don't work so the whole thing is changed to one long block of text. I'm looking at the best way to change this but you can work around it by adding <br> for a new line or <p> for a paragraph where you need them. You could place the whole of your text between <pre> and </pre> html tags and this would allow the text new lines and paragraphs to work but be careful to keep your lines a reasonable length or they will scroll off to the left of the browser window once the page is viewed.

I might put in a preview page like this forum has - I left it out originally as it's another step to go through and slows down the writing process.

2.
Crosslinking - I'm working on that at the moment trying to find the best way of doing it. You would have to know the name (number) of the page you want to link to - is that a problem?

Thanks for helping me test this - it's only when someone else uses the program I can see what needs changing. I've been too close to the programming side to see the faults.

If you can't get the site to display in a web browser you may have a problem with .cx domain sites. To test try from the program bar
"Start -> run -> cmd"
This opens up a black command window type "nslookup www.lewis.cx" and press return.

The window should show a number 195.248.121.186
If you do not see this then your ISP has lousy DNS servers and you're missing lots of web sites. You can get around this by manually telling your system how to find the site.

You will need to find and edit the hosts file which is in your windows installation directory. The path is usually c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and the file called "hosts"

This is a text file and can be edited by any text editor such as notepad
The line needed to be added is
195.248.121.186    lewis.cx

If you have any other problems getting to the site let me know the error messages and I'll try to solve the problem.
