I Passed! I am A Licensed New York Insurance Agent!

Thanks very much, lare. Yes it was. Happy New Year to you, lare.

Thanks, DAJT, I appreciate that.

Thanks, Myriads. I appreciate it.

Happy New Year to both of you.

Way to go dude. Good things come to he who hustles while he waits.

Congratulations Mitch I wish you all the success you can possibly get

Technically,, and maybe this is a bit of an "overanalysis", so to speak..

Using the example.. of.. graduation from college or high school. My situation currently is something on the order of.. "You passed all your classes to earn the right to graduate, but you haven't yet attended the ceremony yet".

I've passed my licensing exam. I don't yet have my license in hand yet, of course.. as I need to submit the licensing application to the state of NY. My exam says I must submit a license application to the state of NY. What I was told happened with other people in the company.. their mentors assisted them with the application.,. because if not done right.. it could be delayed.

Also.. most important.. I was promised a position at Aflac.. but I haven't been told when it's starting. Ed, the review class teacher told me "When you pass the exam,.. you will be working at Aflac.". I hope to find out more today or tomorrow. Jay, my trainer.. told me a few days ago.. that a "Sales School"/training program, is supposed to start on Monday, which is why he wanted me to pass before the end of 2013. My hope is to be told to be at the office on Monday for the start of said training program.

Don't have to wait on them either.

It's YOUR license to work wherever you choose; so if they don't "hire" you then contract with someone else. Besides, Aflac is going to churn and burn you anyway and when you leave, you have to leave that business behind.

Now that you're licensed, you can open your options to other companies who may give you better terms to work with them. Anyways, great job, and good luck with your new career.

Thanks, kis. I appreciate it, and I appreciate the advice.

As for what I'm going to do: This past week was a weird week because of the holiday. Considering how patient they were with me, with the whole proctored exam, waiting on me to pass the state final, etc, I'm going to give them some courtesy.

My plan is to wait until Tuesday, and contact Jay again, to get an idea of when they expect to actually sign me. I don't think it's unreasonable to wait.. this week.. to see what they do.

Two things:

Another Aflac office contacted me, more than once. In fact, without mentioning exactly where it is, all I will say is that Ed, the review course guy, works there as well.

Another reason I want to wait a little bit is that I know these people, and I'm comfortable with them. I would prefer to actually have a position with them if at all possible, instead of going through the whole interview process again, and getting used to new supervisors/bosses./co workers. .

I'll be on it, trust me.

Thanks again, kis.

One other point I want to make..

I first want to make clear that I don't want to take this off topic.. or turn this into a parents rant.. or such.. but.. just.. as insight.

Everyone on this forum who knows me, knows how much I adored my mom, and how much I miss her, every day of my life.

That being said.. simply put.. the woman HATED insurance companies. To her, they were the epitome of greed, the worst form of capitalism, etc. She would go on long rants about big insurance.. similar to the ill advised ones I've sometimes posted on here.

I;m not sure if she would have agreed with my choice of careers. Mitch working in insurance.. as an agent?

The irony is.. with all my problems with my father during my life.. I'm now more working in an area he's been involved in his whole life. (Even though he';s a CPA, and I'm now an insurance agent). What I mean is, big business, a big company, etc.

I want to make clear that I did not decide to persue insurance to either "Spite my mom" or "Suck up to my dad". Simply put.. I was 43 years old, with a flimsy resume.. an opportunity was offered to me, and I took it. Thank heaven, they were patient with me, and it has worked out where I passed the licensing exam. Hopefully it will now work out with a position with Aflac ASAP.

If my mom is watching from Heaven.. all I can say is.. Mom.. I love you forever, and I hope you understand why I did what I did.

That being said.. I'm excited about beginning what I hope will be a long and successful career in insurance. I don't look at that I'm going to be 44 in less than three weeks. My dad is 73, still works.. and retirement is nowhere in sight for him. If I'm alive, and healthy.. I can work til I'm 90 lol.

Unless they contact me in the next couple of hours.. it doesn't look like work will be starting for me tomorrow. I had originally been told that a major training program was scheduled to start on the 6th, but.. no word on that.

Hopefully work wont start until Wednesday. The high on Tuesday is expected to be a sizzling 13 degrees F lol. Obviously I'll go if told I have to be somewhere, but.. if they don't say anything.. it would be a day to stay inside.

I think sometimes my father doesn't get it. Even though I would like to know when this starts, I also don't want to badger Jay.

Tonight my father was like "Call Jay 10am tomorrow". Er.. no. It was a holiday week, etc, and while I'm very interested to find out when this begins, I also don't want to badger Jay, and make a pest of myself.

I'm going to give it until Tuesday mid morning, and then politely e-mail Jay. From the way Jay made it sound.. things were supposed to start tomorrow, but now,. after his email.. I don't know. I'm thinking.,. if I wait 24 hours, it shows I'm eager to start the position, without breathing down the guy's neck, and potentially pissing him off, before things even start.

Nice job folks. You took a positive thread and turned it into a brawl.

And in this case it was the same people I always see following Mitch around and taking big steaming dumps on any thread he posts whenever possible.

Cut it out. Next time I issue forum bans.

This sort of bully crap will not tolerated.

Mitchell, even tho U told me to "Bite Me" ... I hope you're job goes GREAT and all you're dreams come true!
You worked hard on studying and now all you have to do is work hard at you're new JOB!!!
Go For It!

Marty

Marty, I'm going to say I'm sorry for what I said to you, and also thank you for your good wishes.

As for the situation with the job..

My dad and my aunt.. both of whom are in their early 70s, and have worked their asses off non stop since they were 20 years old..

They told me that I absolutely have to just hold my horses, and that I cant say a word to Jay now. They said he is probably on vacation, and the first thought on his mind is not Mitch or Mitch's position. I knew this right away before they even said it.. In fact, they were annoyed that I was obsessing about the job not starting today.

Soooo.

I'm going to take a much needed week off.. and just chill until Jay gets back. I know I will hear from him. Until then.. I think I've earned a much needed short rest.

One other point:

My dad said something to me tonight about the whole "I had to pass by Dec 31st", even though my job hasn't started yet.

He thinks there is probably some "Quota", or amount of employees that have to be signed by Dec 31st, and this is why they told me it had to be done by then. His feeling is they knew Jay was going to be on vacation, which is why he gave me the whole "We have to see what the time frame is" when I told Jay I passed the exam.

Whatever. I'm just happy to have it passed and behind me. If I'm signed in a week or two, no biggie. Hopefully I'll be working in insurance for many years. Starting a week or two later than I thought I would wont matter.

Another important issue I found out..and not to put this back to the top of the page, but as I said, this is important.

kis made an excellent point about it being my license, and doing what I want with it.

The thing is..

I don't yet have my license in hand, as I've posted..

I need to have a licensed insurance agent.. "Sign off" the form that I have to send to the state for the license, showing that I passed the required training, and exams, to qualify to have the license. As I also mentioned,., one has to be "Attached to an insurance company" that the state can see.

I believe Jay and/or Tim would/will be the ones to sign off to the state. I don't think the review guy, Ed, can do it, because, while a licensed agent.. he's not an employee of the company I'm hopefully going to be working in.

Jay is supposed to be back on Monday.. so hopefully,. very soon after that.. this whole process can happen, and I can start the "Sales Training School" that was discussed with me.

For this week,.. I'm taking a much needed break. Visits with friends, a family party on Saturday, and yes the casino tomorrow lol.
