She says she's fine and announced that she's giving up alcohol permanently. Now that's an acheivement and I congratulate her for it!
:xpulcy: 🙂

Thank you Scribe for being my friend and being supportive of this decision of mine to Eliminate Alcohol for Good from my life 🙂

It will not be easy and I am taking it day by day, some of the threads I have seen from others regarding Addiction has inspired me to make this change in my life . Alcohol has been with me and in my family on a Daily Basis for many years and I am confronting my addiction and I have to learn that I *Can* do my grocery shopping without having to buy a six pack of beer or a bottle of wine .I am at a stage in my life that I need to Grow up and make decisions that will help me in the Long Run,rather than a Short Term Pleasure which alcohol has been for me .

What your doing is very good Laurie keep it up and i wish you the best of luck. And you know i'm with you as your friend when ever you need to talk :twohugs:

If my dad can do it, anyone can.

He was born in Ireland where alcohol was even used sometimes as a remedy for colds and such. He was an alcoholic for 42 years, but he's been sober for a year.

Good luck, it'll be hard, but I know you've got people on the forum that support you.

Thank you very much Ticklishgiggle for your response,It will be hard but just admitting to myself that I am addicted was not easy but now a relief and now on to the next step of many..

Ohh this is great stuff and you must feel proud of yourself to admit this as thats the first step... I wish you luck and happiness for the next steps to come 🙂

Well done!

There aren't easy ways for the things worth having. Where there's a will there's a way, and since i know you have the will, i know you'll succeed!

Thank you for your response Slap'n'ticklee :bump: AS far as feeling proud of myself, I go back and forth between tears knowing the truth ,and feeling strength that now I have admitted it to myself, now it is the time to do something about it..
Thank you for your support and best wishes!.

Thank you Dario_F for sharing your wisdom, and clarifying that it takes hard work and tough decisions to get to what matters :cool2:
Thank you for the support, this is a challenge I am sure, I am strong in some ways but even with all that, I also know that I can;t do it alone and I appreciate all the support I have received :bump:

Congratulations on your decision, Tickleshotel, and I wish you the best. :cuddle: :grouphug:

I'm all for anything that's going to improve quality of life; what you're doing takes loads of "stones" my dear! People go to their graves never admitting they have issues so don't you dare beat yourself up about yours.

I will offer one suggestion for you to consider; be careful and watch out for the addiction tradeoff as in trading one addiction to replace another. In other words, keep your hobbies and interests as they are and don't allow them to turn into addictive behavior. Take it from someone who knows your journey on another level; food addictions suck!

I also decided to back down from the alcohol myself; I'm no spring chicken you know! Then again, this thread isn't about me is it? I digress...... :wow:

Take care of yourself and don't beat up on yourself if you make mistakes. Just get back on the horse and keep riding! I have complete faith in you and your success.

Kis beat me to the widom punch. :ignite: That line says it all. Improve not because you need to, but because you want to.

Godspeed, Laurie.

Thank you Kis for your wonderful response! Your remark about improving quality of life is a Bullseye on why I made the decision and now is better than later, I am not spring chicken any more and I have a feeling that my next 30 years is going to be alot better ,happier than the last 30 years . I am starting to learn to make decisions, and DO what is going to make *Me* happy ,and not sacrifice my own happiness to make others happy on my expense.. As Bon Jovi says in a song "It's mY Life" and I am claiming my own life and trying to be the best I can be

Thank you Tkrexx :twohugs: 😎 You are right, that line does say it all.. I know within myself that if someone else had told me that I needed to stop drinking that I would probably know it is true and if I didn;t want to stop, I would maybe cut down on how often I drank but not stop completely..
Since this is my decision I made on my own, I know that I am going to stick with it and not only keep my promise to myself but also to my friends who are behind me all the way .

This is a big decision on your part, and a great one at that. I believe in you, and I know that if you put your mind to it, you can do this. I wish you the best of luck in this, and hopefully everything goes well. :twohugs:

You Go Girl! Congratulations!

Recommendation - 90 meetings/90 days. Start hitting the AA meetings - 1 a day. You found time to drink so replace that time with an AA meeting. It works. There are AA meetings all over the world. Sometimes it takes awhile to find the right one where you feel really comfortable but take the time to get to them and meet the folks. They've all been where you are today.

I'll hit my 25th AA birthday on the 17th of this month if I can stay sober that long. Even with all those years under my belt it's still "one day at a time". Focus on not drinking today. Don't worry about tomorrow. Just focus on today. That's what works.

The main thing is don't do this alone. Get some help whether it's a program or AA meetings or whatever. Going it alone rarely works.

in the AA meetings you'll hear... Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path.... and that's so true. 12 Steps to remaining Alcohol free. It works My dad was sober 30 years when he passed. My uncle was sober 35 years and another uncle 43 years. I'll be sober 25 years soon and I have a brother who's been sober 7 years. AA works and you'll meet some amazing people.

All the best!

Thank you Qbweaver for your helpful and Great Recommendations as well as testimonials that AA does work.. Joining a group such as AA is going to be my next step but I may have to pull some strings as with my job I work nights and weekends..,so I will need to research to find a local AA group that meets say on afternoons or on my days off which are monday,tuesday..
Honestly I think the biggest obstacle I may have to face, overcome is being in a environment where others are drinking which I have to be strong and take a deep breath, order a iced tea, water, soda or possibly one of those NON Alcoholic drinks that resemble a beer or I got it, a shirley temple 😉 When I was a kid, I loved the shows and the drink is pretty good too...Must have my sense of humor as I can imagine a bartender thinking I am too young to have alcohol and asks me to sit at a table or booth 😀

I haven't gone though what you have so I can't add much to what has been said, but congratulations on your decision and I hope it all works out for you!!
