As a female, it's just easier going to a munch where there's no pressure to play with anyone and you know you won't be pawed at.
And while I don't pretend to speak for all females, I know a lot of the attraction of tickling only happens if you already have a level of comfort with someone. Personals always gave me the impression that getting to know the other person was secondary to play, which is fine if that's what you're looking for, but I think most women would prefer some kind of familiarity.
And you're not really sharing your fetish with strangers. It's other people in the same boat. And to be honest, most of the time the conversation was about lots of other things besides tickling. Anyway, to each their own. I just don't like when people complain about no one being in the Illinois area, when those are the people that I've never seen come out of their shell and attend a group meetup. It's definitely not for everyone, and it's not the only way to meet people, but many prefer it to personals. To be honest, I really don't think the personals have that high of a success rate. Mostly dudes posting in there with no responses, or the people that do respond end up not showing up when it's time to meet face to face. Glad it's worked out for you guys though.
