Imposter among us

Well, I've run the scan as I said, and it comes up clean. And if Myriads said to forget about it, I'm inclinded to believe and listen to him. If he says its a common virus, and I just scanned for one, and there is none, then I guess I really can just let it go.

You mean the fuss I made. 😛

Still though, would someone more knowledgeable explain just how a virus of this nature works and how threatening it could prove to be?

It just seemed like a threatening messege, but what else could this person have done? I'm curious as to how it all works since I know what a virus is, and what it does for the most part, but not technically how it works.

Well, this virus appears to be of the type I dub "Annoying but Harmless." Unless I am wrong, this one probably was created simply to scare the recipient, namely you.

A virus is a malicious code, and as you probalably know, code is what all things computer are made of, that can do harm, by erasing files and the like, be annoying or frightening, see above, or can send itself to others through you, thereby infecting them.

Go Here for an overview of antivirus steps, or go Here for a nice glossary of terms.

Cheers!😀

I'll be sure to read those pages more fully when I'm more up to it. Thanks.

But with your definition, it leaves me with a question. Since it needs to use me to spread it to other people, didn't my not approving the messege stop them? Because no one will know the messege even existed unless I told them like I did here, and certainly no one but myself has read it. I should probably delete it, right? I only still have it there in case Yahoo! needs it. But if I should delete it, I will.

Ohhh, thank you. I'll be sure to check that one out too. It seems interesting enough. And if theres a next time, and I pray there isn't, I'll be better prepared, or at least more knowledgeable.

Keep your eyes on this thread, I have a hunch TicklingDuo will check in here soon, and they seem to know tons about viruses and PC security. We can all learn something from them.
