Is firefox dependable or should I stick with internet explorer?

for some reason internet explorer stopped working for me and i havent been able to get on here or on my aim without it giving out within 10 minutes or so. I hear pretty good things about firefox and i was hoping to get some opinions on this situation. should i switch or stay with IE? it would be great if I could start using the things i use to online without it kicking me off every few minutes or so.

Firefox is pretty decent anymore. It used to have a crashing issue, but the developers have come a long way with it.

Would you use a can and string in place of a phone?
Would you use a horse-drawn carriage in place of a car?
Would you use an open fire in place of a stove?

If you answered yes to any of the above, then Internet Explorer may be just what you're looking for.

Wow, I haven't used Internet Explorer in years. I guess they still make it, but I'd really suggest FireFox, Google Chrome, or any other of the current generation of browsers.

I'd go with firefox since i've never had a single problem with it. I never used google chrome but I hear good things about that too.

I use chrome and it's the best browser I know of. I haven't really tried the newer versions of firefox, but I remember it crashing a ton, which perhaps was fixed, and I never noticed too much of a difference in speed between it and IE. Chrome however runs like a dream and blows the others away as far as speed goes.

Chrome or Opera are the most efficient for what I need them for.

I feel it all comes down to what you're primarily needing the browser for.

Since I play a lot of games on-line that require Flash and/or Java; Chrome & Opera provide sufficient speed whereas IE & FF do not.

I only use MSIE for those few web sites which refuse to function with the safety plugins for Firefox (e.g. NoScript, Flash Blocker).

I've used Chrome on other peoples' machines and it works great, but I wonder just what Google is up to as far as sneaky information-gathering goes (and not just because Cory Doctorow has an axe to grind with Google).

Chrome and Opera are both good but some programs don't get along with it and it can create problems. If you go to the USPS web site and need to print, Google chrome is NOT your friend and Opera will print but so small you'll need a magnifying glass to read it.

I used to swear by firefox, but lately it crashed so much that I had it removed off my computer completely.

So if you have any problems printing off certain sites, use IE temporarily to print then go back to chrome or opera to your regularly scheduled program..........

I just love Chrome.

I used to use Firefox, and before my time of enlightenment I used Internet Explorer.

Anything other than IE really works. xP

It really depends on your computer, Diana. I use either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome. Of all the browsers, Firefox is my least favorite, but maybe that's just me.

Just my personal experiences here but for what it's worth but I really, really don't like IE because of its susceptibility to catching viruses and malware (maybe it's got better at this in recent years though.) My day-to-day browser is Opera which is super fast and has an extremely useful speed dial page that it has had for years and no other browser has yet AFAIK. However as someone else has said, these "alternative" browsers can have issues with certain sites - Opera has many issues unfortunately - so as a backup I use FF (it loads so slow on my PC though - do others find this too?). And as a backup to FF I use Chrome. But never ever do I need to use IE. If I wasn't so used to Opera, Chrome really looks the way to go nowadays.

But there is one certain way to sort this out: Chrome must be best - it is version 15 now, whereas IE is only version 9 and Firefox is even further back at version 8! 😀 😀 😀 (tongue very much in cheek.)

Google Chrome is like that hot sports car that goes really really fast, and can truck for quite awhile, but it'll have it's issues from time to time.
Firefox is old 60's muscle car, It's a point and go, takes time to get started up and is a bit clunky, but it's very very fast and reliable.
Opera is a Prius, very sleek and not too much of a load on your system, it's very user friendly and is the best friend for someone that uses hotkeys a lot.
Internet Explorer is that early 90's Ford. It's slow, ugly and breaks down a lot, and all of your friends will laugh at you if they see you using it.

Personally I use all 4, Chrome for everything, Firefox for when chrome dupes out on me, Opera when I'm playing canvas rider and Internet Explorer for school (Since the school's website wont work on anything else ><)
