For anyone else living in AZ, you know what I am talking about. There isn't shit to do out here. The bars suck, Mill Avenue is filled with tweakers, Old Town Scottsdale is a bunch of old people, it's always hot, even in December, and everyone acts like they are too important to talk to you.

Sorry but my state sucks ass. I was only in Houston for 5 days and it was the best 5 days of my life.

Dave

Mill ave has always been filled with tweakers (I used to live right down the road roughly at lakefront apartments a few yrs ago). And in Scottsdale well..my last ever DJ gig as a matter of fact was in that area..and I was spinning to a bunch of drugged out spacers as I call em LOL. I moved up to the west valley almost 2 yrs ago now and believe me, you should be happy back down in the east where you are..I may actualy move my ass back down that way eventualy cause hell..if you think thats bad..try livin in the west valley! It sucks shit up here, cant meet anyone unless you wanna meet little girls or old ladies LOL

But yes, I do agree with you that there aint shit to do for the most part in Arizona. Also the damn heat...SHITTTTTTTT!!! Im from the east coast originaly (Philly) and this weather is bullshit down here. Hell this past week's weather has been ridiculous, this is the way the spring/early summer is back east. I do miss the snow..hard to believe for east coast folks, but once you never see it again and live nothing but 2 seasons (spring & deadly summer) for quite a few yrs..you do miss it

Actually, this sounds like a 'grass is always greener...." scenario. To me, AZ seems like a great place. No snow, always warm. Now PA on the other hand....UGH! Been trapped here my whole life. Weather sucks, economy sucks, the cities suck (except Pittsburgh 😀 ) and the people suck. With the exception of NJ, every other state I've been to seems a hell of a lot nicer than crappy ol' PA.

Never been to AZ, but I'll tell you this....be glad you live there and not in Jersey.

Jeez Louise...it's like a national pasttime for people to complain about where they live :jester:

I joined the Navy in 1981 so I could get out of Tucson and have a little excitement. When I got out of the Navy in 1984, I wanted to kiss the ground after I got off the airplane at Tucson International Airport. Though it's not perfect (what city is) I love Tucson very much... my family and friends have a lot to do with it, too, of course.

Having Lived in AZ for 9 yrs; some advice...

Plenty to do if you know where to find it.
Old Rawhide - Catch the Chuckwagon competition & the Rodeos

Tempe...GREAT BARS / AZ State University / Girls are ALWAYS Sunbathing...

YOU can't swing a dead cat w/ out hitting a Pool of some kind; which is why Phoenix is hotter than 'nickle-night' at the Cat-House.

Great Hole-In-The-Wall Mex Restaurants & Lots of THAI & Italian too

....& when The Valley gets Hotter than 2 Rats F*CKIN' In a WOOL SOCK...Between May & Mid Sept. ...Take a trip UP Interstate 17 to Prescott, Flagstaff & points North.

Have a Guinness in the Spirit Room @ Jerome

Hit a few Ghost Towns/ ...................OR just Cruise the Millions of Back Roads, get outta th' Car & see Something of the Beautiful Sonoran desert

...In the words of Frank Zappa, If you don't have fun, it's yer OWN damn Fault.

last but not least....Lake Friggin POWELL..AND The Canyon GRANDE'.

What if the whole cowboy/country type thing isnt your thing? (like it isnt mine lol)

And for Tempe, dont know how long ago you were down there but the bars there are cool but kinda get old after a short while (like the original poster said..packed with tweekers/drug adicts). For Tempe best thing is the az mills mall and just easy acess to civilization (unlike the west valley where i live lol). The heat and deadly creatures (scorpions, diff forms of spiders that kill) is my main gripe for az.

Slacker, the reason we suck so much is to provide the least reason for individuals such as yourself to move here. I think it works well.

Arizona? If Smurfie and Jester live there, it can't possibly suck that bad.

If my saying so will help, I once had a connecting flight in Arizona, and during the 15 or so minutes I was actually on Arizona soil (which I've never been before), I didn't enjoy it much. I looked out the windows near the boarding gate (to the flight out of Arizona) and as at the mountains I just got this feeling that this wouldn't be a place I'd want to live. It actually made me kind of depressed being there. Strange. Almost like the collective souls of Arizona were telepathically warning me to never come here. 😀

If your talkin sky harbor airport in Phoenix, that place pretty much is just like any other airport. Last time I was there I got harrased by freaks tryin to sell me books on meditation or some shit lol. But the outside of there seeing whats around aint bad...just kinda somewhat looks like a nice west coast area with all the palm trees outside the main luggage terminal.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. I guess you took too many drives down the NJ Turnpike enroute from the GW Bridge to the Newark Airport. I grew up in NJ and my mother and sister live in PA. So not all the people suck.

DJ is right on the money. The bars in tempe are full of drug addicts and annoying valley girls.
You want to know how bad it sucks? It is 11:16pm right now in Scottsdale and it is 67 degrees outside. Three words; 120 in July.

great Advice Lightning :bump: I can say you are right ,I am up in (sedona) red rock Country and visiting here is great but I find that in the winter sedona has nothing going on as for the most part it;s just locals in the winter. This year however is seasonably warm,no moisture of any kind and there must be tourists here.. The nearest town to sedona is alot smaller than i am used to,,,only 12,000 people!..and sedona is smaller than that town..

I was just joking. 😀

It wasn't bad at all. 15 minutes in an airport terminal can't tell me anything. Even though I live in California, I don't see myself going to Arizona. If I ever go on a roadtrip with friends or something, we'll probably go that way though.

Don't take me so seriously, Hatman. I'm sure many nice people live in Jersey. I've just never met any in my experiences there. Well, except my ex-girlfriend's family. They were cool.

Aachen....If you are that unhappy in Arizona maybe you should explore some other states and maybe make a move somewhere? I've never been myself, I'm a "Jersey girl", but seriously I think if your unhappy personaly, you have to fix that first or you can move anywhere and still feel the same way.
Good Luck and Keep Your Chin Up 🙂

It's a GREAT Phoenix weekend...

Some things to do this weekend:

Greekfest at Tempe Town Lake. Buy a bottle of Retsina wine and a glass or two, walk around with a messy gyro in your face and watch the greek dancers and - well just the greek people in general. The more you drink, the more you'll yell "Opa!" at nobody in particular. At least I do.

Rennaisance Festival south of Gold Canyon. Before you denounce this as a "white trash freakshow", at least go to one, buy a turkey leg and a pint of Guinness, plant yourself on the grass and watch the folks. I spend all day here when I go. Bring plenty of money, though, cause you'll find yourself buying wooden swords and princess hats and garbage like that if you have kids.

Hike Squaw Peak. A fun thing to do when the weather is nice (I know, right now the pollution is lethal, though). If you can make it all the way to the top, celebrate it, then turn around and walk about 50 feet down, and stand off the the side of the trail. Then, pick out some people who are nearing the top and heartily cheer them on for making it half way there! Oh, the looks of despair on those faces...

Tilted Kilt in Tempe. Get a place at the bar, and if you can tear your gaze from the mini-kilt-wearing wait staff, keep an eye on the door when a guy brings his wife/girlfriend into the place. Watch her look around, mutter something under her breath to him as they sit and order a beer. She'll watch him like a hawk to make sure he isn't looking at the waitresses before she makes him leave to go to Applebees. I know - I've been that guy.

Loop 101 speeding camera fun. The cameras are only issuing warnings right now, and it appears that the whole project will get shelved indefinitely. They're posting pictures online of people who speed excessively - over 100mph. People are ducking down so the camera shown an empty car, waving, etc. Why not dress up in a clown suite and get there at 6am on a Sunday morning for your portrait?

wtf is a tweeker?

"girls are ALWAYS sunbathing" = later in life ...leatherface ...!!

been in AZ (Tucson) in the dead of summer once, that was enuough for me....I couldn't breath it was so f***ing hot...!!! nice place to visit I'm sure....in the winter....but no thanks...wouldn't want to live there, not unless I had a place I could move to in the summer in northern AZ. probably as expensive to live there as it is in Cali though...is it?
