Is my phone being hacked?

Due to my MacBook being used for work and is accessed by coworkers regularly, I have been TMFing from my phone. I have a hard drive for all my media 😉

With that being said, I have a friend who I hardly ever talk to, but we are still in contact sometimes. Nothing has EVER come close to happening between us and there is definitely no way this person should know about my fetish.

But starting two days ago, I've been getting many texts from this person - all ticking related. This person keeps saying stuff like "I'm ticklish to hang out" and "my top 3 tickle spots are...".

I am not really scared or creeped out, but I am really baffled as to how this could be happening. Well, I am actually pretty creeped out. I am pretty discreet about my fetish. Not many people in my local area know about my love of tickling.

What do you think? I'd like to hear your thoughts. Thank you.

That would be a pretty big coincidence if they just suddenly started mentioning tickling all the time for no particular reason.

Are there any other possible explanations besides phone hacking, like a mutual friend who might have told them, or something they might have seen in the past that they're only now bringing up?

I'd hang out with this ticklish person... s'what I'd do...

But seriously, if this started 2 days ago, seems like something must have happened recently, like 3 days ago, if you're getting many messages like this out-of-the-blue... Did you leave your phone out in public? Did you talk to anyone about this?

This person should have NO idea about my tickle fetish. I mean, there is not a chance. We are hardly even acquaintances.

And yeah, ha ha, why am I complaining? This is not a person I would ever want to do anything with and I find it pretty inappropriate. And the only thing I can think of is them hacking my phone remotely. Is that even possible?

This whole ordeal is discomforting and kind of violating. Yiiiiik.

Even if it's possible to remotely hack a cellphone, I doubt your coworkers can do it unless you work for the CIA 🙂 If this does come from your phone, I think it's more likely that you left it somewhere without realising it, and someone picked it up and took a look and put it back without saying anything.

I haven't physically seen this person in some time, and there is MAYBE a .0000001% chance that a mutual friend saw my phone, got on the phone and then reported it to this person in question.

And Jeff, sorry to sound like a paranoid weirdo, but I'm not very tech-y! A hacking feels like the only theory that works. My phone is never away from me. Never.

In the end, I don't mind people knowing about my fetish. I am not embarrassed by it. However, I am not cool with people possibly sneaking around my personal business. I say possibly because this could be one weird miscommunication or mishap. Who knows. I am going to give it a another day or two before I decide how I am going to address this with my friend.

Thanks for your time, folks.

I'd like to know the outcome of that conversation, if you're willing to share it.

Another possibility is that maybe such a person is on here and somehow recognized you. I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time such a thing happened in the TMF.

@Jeff, Hey thanks for building this!

Well, I wouldn't be here if I knew I texted this person. I looked over my history. Nada.

And I'm certain that all of my apps (I don't have many) are from very legitimate companies.

But if that is the case, how would this supposed shady software send someone something like this? Like I said, I am horrible with computer technology, so I'm having a hard time grasping what could happen and how.

Or is there a way this person could be remotely viewing my web history? I know Jeff kind of debunked that idea, but isn't it possible with certain software? Again, I'm not trying to freak myself into a paranoid fit, I just wanna know what the hell is going on.

I, and I'm surely of you, wouldn't want my phone's possibly shady software sending something as personal and private like this to your friends and even family. It could prove to be quite embarrassing.

Thanks for all of your input. I haven't received any texts as of late. We will see what happens. I'll report after my half day at work.

Why would anyone be remotely viewing your web history? I mean, who's that curious about you?

I don't mean that to come off as dismissive by the way, I would say the same thing about myself. I mean, unless you're Scarlett Johanssen, who's trying to get into your phone?

Yea, if someone hacked your personal info, they had to have had a motive... and if they got some info on you, I find it curious that tickling is the one thing that they confronted you on....

Wait, is this a coworker? Cuz you know how gossip spreads in the workplace...

But, if you don't really aren't embarrassed and don't mind people finding out (but obviously, you're still creeped out by having your privacy violated)... I'd confront this person point-blank, especially if it's a person who's not even remotely in your social circle.

Ha ha, trust me, I'm not thinking like that. I'm merely thinking of the possible options.

The person in question is kind of a freaky, deviant person. Same sex. Not to sound vain (seriously!) but there is a actually a slight chance that this web spying is something that person could honestly be doing.

It wouldn't be the first time I've been propositioned and/or sought after by a gay person.

At the end of the day, as I said before, I would just like to get to the bottom of this, as it is odd. Also, concerning work and some of the privilege I've worked so hard for is my main concern. I just don't like the thought of people gaining access to my private thoughts and feelings without my consent.

I would crap my pants with embarrassment if my phone sent personal stuff like that to my boss or coworkers. And on another note about shady software sending stuff secretly: why tickling? I mean, I visit TONS of other non-tk sites every day.

Am I a paranoid hippie or just the victim of a really weird coincidence? Time will tell. Thanks for reading my rants and not dismissing my thoughts.

Perhaps you favorited a tickle video on dailymotion and it showed up on your facebook? Happened to a few members on the forum before.

As someone who knows something about mobile programming, I'm finding a lot of these theories pretty far-fetched, especially since the OP says they haven't installed any funny/sketchy apps.

The best solution is to just text this person back and be like, "Uh, what did you say?". That'll give them the chance to either explain themselves or deny it, which will give you a better jumping-off point to investigate.

My personal opinion? Fumbled flirtation or total coincidence. Probably moreso the former.
