Is there a way to get rid of a "tickle fetish"?

Just a question to any of you who may have an answer or know where to find the answer to this question...

What if your tickle fetish becomes a "problem"? Say for example it gets you in trouble at work or in other situations...I know there are many of you that say "Well you have to be careful, you have to know who you're dealing with..."

You all know as well as I do that in today's society... playful tickling in the workplace could be grounds for sexual harrassment and termination of employment.

I was just wondering if professional help would be needed and if so what would they do? Would they treat this as a mental illness? Would they give you medication? Or is it strictly up to the person to control themselves and not allow themselves to get into bad situations?

Or am I just over reacting and is it ok to have a tickle fetish just as it is to have other fetishes? Just wondering...Some time in the near future I will post a true story that has brought this thought into my head and maybe you'll have a better understanding of why I am asking this question

Any feedback would be welcome..

Thanks,

Pips

Pips, after reading your post, I dont want to comment on specifics until I read your follow up post. However, this is how I see it.
As with anything, there is an appropriate time and place for all forms of behavior. Many times I will be walking through malls, or such, as I have both a foot and tickle fetish, and I might see a pretty girl, and wonder if her feet are ticklish, but I wont act on it, go up and ask her, or go over to her and tickle her.
I am not a professional, but I will say that if any fetish gets a person into trouble in the outside world, with, say, a co worker, or person not familiar to the individual with the fetish, it might be time to talk to a couneslor to dicuss and identify feelings, and work through where and where not to express one's desires.
I hope what I said helped. I will post further at the time you choose to post your situation.

Mitch

Bah. I just wish I could get rid of this damn fetish so it would stop complicating my sex life.

thanks mitch

I appreciate the advice Mitch, and I will post that story sooner than later.

Thanks,

Pips

Pips, a psychologist friend of mine told me once, "If it's not a problem, then it's not a problem." In other words, if a fetish isn't causing problems in a person's life then there's nothing to be concerned about.

If a fetish seems to be causing problems then it might not actually be the fetish that's doing it. Sexual addiction is a condition in which a person's sexuality, whatever form it might take, begins to intrude into inappropriate areas of a person's life. Unlike most forms of addiction, sexual addiction can't usually be addressed by going "cold turkey." Celibacy may be no more healthy. So it takes a little more care and finesse.

But it is treatable. And it may not require getting rid of the fetish.

I have learned that a strong dose of discipline holds any urges in check. As a bipol I sometimes have odd urges but do not act on them. That is where alot of people never understand that you can have fetishes yet not understand you can control it. I have never got into trouble for tickling a girl at work because I learn the boundries and become friends with the ones I tickle first. You do not get rid of it, you control it. Pardon the pop culture reference, but Vulcans have emotions, they just keep them well controlled, as we can. I am by no means emotionless or less spontaneous, I just control myself more.

I'd be surprised to meet anyone that regularly gets into trouble because of this fetish.

I'd want to get rid of it for a smoother, more enjoyable sex life. I don't think it's possible though. Not without hardcore mental conditioning, and who knows what form that could take.

i agree with aragorn, red and mitch. when i was younger, i had a bit more trouble controlling my tickle/foot fetish because it was never a problem. as i grew older, i quickly realized how the things most hallowed in the tmf may seem strange and sick to those who don't understand. and i even tried to quit myself, but was not able to do that...my fetish(es) came back stronger than before. all it takes is knowing where you are, what the rammifications would be, and so on. once you can fully reign in the urges to tickle the feet of the hot chick next to you, you'll be fine.

Its Aragon, not Aragorn, lol.

My control is more from my urges to do more than things to do with my fetishes. I can be a violent person and I learned more because I wanted to hurt morons. Same concept though. If it is ruining your sex life, well, that I've never dealt with. I would think that you should first want to be with the woman for more than sex or tickling. The two are icing on the cake in my opinion. I love tickling with sex, but it is just a benifit. Not sure past that.

IF you seriously want to rid yourself of your tickle fetish.........have yourself tickled to the point where you absoulutely hate it and beyond. Like shock therapy. :shake: :wow: :ranty:

I already hate being tickled, TTD, I'm a strict ler.

Next suggestion? lol

Hmmm it's difficult, sometimes I wish I could be shot of the whole thing as it would free up more time for other stuff. For instance last week my holiday ended up being cancelled. So instead I ended up spending an inordinate/unhealthy amount of time at home in front of the computer browsing TMF/Tickling related stuff. Almost a form of comfort eating to get over the disappointment of my screwed up holiday plans.

Years ago when I was a distance runner, I was very very obsessed with that, so tickling fetish was pushed to the background only to emerege every now and then (so as Redmage is speculating this may be a personality thing). I no longer run but have recently taken up martial arts. However because that is a bit on and off due to injuries, it doesn't superceed Tickling fetish, although I do feel they are not compatible (especially with me being more Lee than ler).

Also now the internet is with us, I do wonder is that a good or bad thing. In the old days, I may not have thought of Tickling for months on end, yet then would travel into London and be ripped off for a couple of hundred quid to buy two videos that the guy said had tickling material on them (as often as not none or a mere minutes worth), such was the desperation and urge for material that would come upon one. Of course now one is swamped with material on the TMF and other places so that need is satisfied. On the other hand however it is hard to turn away from it, when you know it is sitting there waiting for you. If I had a pound for every time I deleted the TMF from my Favourites.

There is another thread somewhere and I don't wish to resurrect that, but myself and others who contributed to it, all stated that our lives would be completely different if this fetish had not been visited upon us. Obviously for those of you who are in a healthy loving relationship where tickling is a natural and regular part of, may think: 'What the f*** is this guy going on about ?'. Well do bear in mind not all of us find things as easy as other people.

I think my overall answer to the question, the best way to deal with it if it is a problem is to find something else to replace it, that you can become obsessed with such as: studying for a degree, keep fit fanaticism, drugs, alcohol, a beautiful but non ticklish woman who you are in love with, building a extension for your house, and on and on........

Ahhhhhhhh my friend, therein lies the point.
Every time you tickle someome, you are then quickly pinned down or tied down and tickled unmercifully for 10 times the time you tickled that person.
Just like the old time therapy whereas when the subject reaches for a.... cigarette or piece of candy and is shocked. In your case, extreme measures need be taken! :bump: :ignite: :veryhappy

:sowrong: I agree with Mitchell, if you ask me, you need to take it easy. :happyfloa If you have some problem or situation in the past, Its not like the end of the world you know... dont regret it, learn from it, and you will become more wise, dont regret your fetish. Im sure that some people here used to have more or less problems with this fetish (me too) eventually you will learn when and where you cant make your moves with this fetish, better yet, you will meet people like us, its just a matter of time...

sorry for the wrong spelling 😛

 ... mmmmh, well maybe I should pretend that I agree with the "extreme measures" and help you to get rid of your fetish once and for all!! 😛 😉

You can't get rid of it. You can only deal with it. There is no way to rewire your brain. It will always be there in some way, shape, or form.

You can run but you cant hide. See the fetish behind that tree, or behind the rock over there, or just in the next corner...
Eventually you will realize that there is no escape... from the tickle matrix!!! :evilha: :jester:

Ah but perhaps you can create a short circuit.

I have no desire to rid myself of it. It keeps me interesting and gets me out of bed in the morning.

This appears to be the popular opinion among many psychologists and psychiatrists, since it is believed by some that fetishism (and homosexuality) may actually be tied to an enlarged hypothalmus gland in the brain.

Interestingly enough, fetishism is also many times associated with other psychological factors that lend themselves to such things as obsessive compulsive disorder, Aspergers disease, and some types of antisocial psychosis.

For me, its definitely linked to obsessive compulsive. I have the compulsive desire to tickle pretty feet, and once I do, I'm obsessed with not wanting to stop. :woot:

Homosexuality!?

ShadowTklr: "since it is believed by some that fetishism (and homosexuality) may actually be tied to an enlarged hypothalmus gland in the brain"

A theory is that the shape of the human foot is visually similar to that of the curves found on the human body, particularly the female hips (again explaining the tendency of foot fetishists to be primarily heterosexual men).

Another possible theory behind foot-fetishism could be rooted in the idea that a persons feet are usually hidden, much in the same manner as genitalia or a woman's breasts. Exposed feet could hypothetically produce a feeling of pleasure in the same way that exposed breasts could

Another angle is that many people consider curves in general to be sexy or arousing, and the average foot is composed almost entirely of curves; the top of the foot, the tips and bottoms of the toes, balls of the toes, instep, heel, ankle, soles, and toenails are often all curved, making the foot one of the curviest parts of the human body. In much the same way that breasts, asses, or hips are often considered attractive because of their curves, so too can the foot be regarded as an object of sexual desire.

A foot fetishist can be male or female (although males account for over 90% as fetishes in general are a male dominated trait). Some fetishists like smooth soft and clean female feet. While others may like them rough or dirty.

Feet and tickle fetish as nothing to do with a mental disorder! :ranty: :ranty: :ranty:

Thanks

I appreciate everyone's opinions and advice given to this thread...I believe I will seek some sort of help from a counselor as Mitchell suggested....especially in light of the Michigan movie theater story...

I certainly had no idea of the severity of this situation and the last thing I want to do is cause trouble or bring any negativity to this forum or its members

There was also a suggestion to try and find something else to try and take my mind off of tickling feet...I'll definitely explore that as well...

I am curious to know if the victim was indeed underaged since she did get her father involved.

anyway...thank you again for the feedback
