Alright anti smoking groups have been pushing films that include smoking to be considered rated R because of use of tobacco. I hate smoking, i never smoked and never will, but come on, making all films with smoking rated R or completely banned? Isnt that a little extreme? By that logic would leave it to beaver be rated R?

Also Disney caved into this and now bans all smoking in all their films.

http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/07/26/business/disney.php

So these anti smoking groups bullied them to limit their freedom of expression in art because they dont like smoking. You know wasnt Walt disney a smoker? Now that would be ironic.

Lame-o. But I'd expect that from Disney because, you know, they're Disney.

I doubt (and hope) other studios won't follow though. Not that smoking's a hugemongous deal or anything but sometimes, something as slight as lighting up can say a lot in the context of a movie or the time period if it relates to the character(s).

LamE.

Yeah i know, alot of times it goes along with characters in the movies. But yeah disney has kinda been going down hill.

Also the reason the anti smoker groups are doing this is because smoking in movies promotes children to smoke....apparently.

Yeah. It's got nothing at all to do with the parents. It's ALL TV and media.

Eesh...

Disney is...well...complicated. Not down-hill really. Just family oriented is more what I meant but, they're still all kinds of messed up from within. :idunno:

lol yeah if the parents took time out of their day to explain to their kids that smoking is bad and some people choose to do so regardless maybe that would solve some problems.

Yeha i noticed disney change, it use to be all cartoons and such. Now its mostly reality shows about "teenage" life.

No, there is no end to it.
If they succeed in banning smoking in movies (not just in Disney films), these same nanny-state censors will move on to try to ban the eating of red meat or fried food.

Yeah i know they just wont stop will they? They want to end freedom as we know it

INMATE #1
You got yourself two options. You either get raped by Dementia McDougall, or you find yourself that pack of lollypops you owe the boys.

There will always be attempts at censorship in film, whether it be in language or sex or violence, and the ballsier studios will break the censorship, be a hit, and the big studios will start to echo it to cash in. Cigarettes will always be a film staple. Or at least I sure hope so. ...also a non-smoker.

I can't say it any better.I would invite those who wish to control every aspect of our lives to butt out and mind your own damn business.

Soon enough the only smoke seen will be from camfires. Until those are banned because of the potential danger of forrest fires.

Yes, the stupid people are everywhere, but I hardly think that this smoking malarkey will be acted upon, it's far too trivial.

They should worry more about putting a good plot and storyline into a movie and less about taking smoking out.

That would take too much hard work and intelligence.😀

The powers that be would rather 'protect' our society from smoking than lower ticket prices or make good films.

That's the real tragedy to me.

And for the record I don't smoke... cigarettes...

All of that was inevitable. Disney was just the first. Pretty soon we'll need some super secret handshake to see a fucking movie.

Will that be before or after we pay $20 for the tickets, another $20 for concessions, go through the cavity search and sit throuth the 45 minutes of crappy previews?

Bloody hell. Yeah, it's easy as shit to drop 22 bucks on a bucket of popcorn and a fucking soda. Shit.

That's why I bring my own damn shit. Fuck 'em.

Actually, I think that for Disney, only their new movies will not include smoking.

And besides, not to diminish this thread, but you have many other companies that make movies with smoking in them. You have hundreds of movies that were made before this that include smoking.

I've said it before...after they eliminate the smokers, they're going after the fat people.

I know, since "my kind" are a scourge on the earth!

Cleveland Clinic has been at this crap for years! If your a smoking employee, you're going about a block down the street to smoke thanks to the CEO! He's removed any real snack from the machines and made them "healthy"-who the hell goes to a snack machine for healthy food??

Now the "fat" employees are "encouraged" to go to weight watchers for free or at a discount. I don't see a huge problem with this unless employees don't have a real choice in the matter.

This is the same place that tried to boot out McDonalds from the cafeteria; he forgot that little document called a lease! He has to suck it up for 10 years......priceless!! But I digress......

Oh, and Disney's really family friendly; isn't this the same company that sponsors the gay pride parade on the same grounds as their family friendly theme park????

What's wrong with having to take your smoke far away from people who don't want it in their lungs or the scent on their clothing?

What's wrong with healthy snacks in the vending machines?

And what's non-family friendly about gay pride parades? Many, many gays have families and are raising children.

I hate smoking myself. I never touched one and can't even breath around the things, but I too think they are taking it too far. These anti-smoking things need to go after the people smoking not the companies providing the cigarettes. People need to be held responsible for their own mistakes instead of blaming cigarette companies the government and God.

Woah....

Brakes.

I'm a smoker, and I have no issues going down the street to smoke. Sure, it sucks in comparison to the 70s which I was never a part of. So, I can just layer up and suck it up for my nicotine fix.

No big.. you actually get a chance to learn new ways to stay warm.

So, in a roundabout way-- smoking= knowledge!

I'm fucking kidding.

He's removed any real snack from the machines and made them "healthy"-who the hell goes to a snack machine for healthy food??

Hm. I'm going to guess people who want to not clog their bodies with processed fat. I've had some of the healthier alternatives towards everyday products and there isn't much of a taste difference. The only thing that is different is you don't sit and listen to your arteries clogging.

Now the "fat" employees are "encouraged" to go to weight watchers for free or at a discount. I don't see a huge problem with this unless employees don't have a real choice in the matter.

Well, I see nothing wrong with this. A free pass to a place that is normally uber fucking expensive to take the chance at bettering your health?

Doesn't sound too terrible to me.

This is probably the most offensive one..

Seriously?

Oh, damn them gays! They're just a bunch of fags! Let's not even call them by their birth names-- let's just group them together like they are some 'thing' !

I believe you are not white completely, Kis-- am I correct? How would you feel if someone was clumping your heritage into one single name and refusing to acknowledge you as an individual?

That would suck, wouldn't it?

And doing the same to people who live by an alternative lifestyle, do not deserve to be clumped together like that just as much as whites, blacks, mexicans, puerto ricans, mexiricans, etc.

Look at today's society. I'd take my son to a parade celebrating the fact that those folks have the strength to be proud of the lifestyle they have grown into, instead of cowering in a corner-- pointing a finger and condemning every other person that is not just like them.

Good friggin' grief!

Could you have worsely taken me out of context?

Not that I owe you or anyone else around here an explanation of my intentions, here it goes:

I have ABSOLUTELY no issue with the gay community; I just found it ironically interesting that Disney's so concerned with family values that they take smoking out of videos but allow the gay pride parades on their family friendly property!

I have gays in my family and I love them no less than anyone else!! You don't know me; who do you think you are to judge me? Oh, it's okay for you to do it, but point fingers at others you THINK are doing it right?

We have the gay pride parade in my city every year right by the building where I used to work. The dress is a little outlandish, but otherwise I don't have a problem with it. I don't feel it should be exposed to children any more than a straight pride people who are dressed outlandishly or barely clothed at all! That should be common sense, but then again........

And you're right about one thing--I ain't white at all! I put up with it everyday from people who don't even know how racist they are until I land in their lives. So what about it???

I hope this clarifies things for you, but if it doesn't....it doesn't!!!!!

Next time, ask someone's intentions before you start judging and belittling them. It might save you some time!

Yeah. None of this makes sense, especially in comparison to your previous post which implied you passing judgement. And then turning around and somehow mentioning that I was judging you.

And folks in the gay community have children. And-- everyone likes Disney Land.

If folks "don't know they're racist until you land in their lives" pass judgement onto you in someway. Doing so towards the Gay Community by means of implying that they shouldn't have a parade in Disney because they are gay?

That's doing the same thing as "those people" do to you.
