Is this really America?

As I said before, this is the begining of the end. It will be people like Tron and Bush who bring this nation right to its doom.

Are most of the people posting here former writers for the X-files? The world is not going to end, OK. Although I suppose even if it does you won't be around to go nyah, nyah, nyah anyway. 🙂

sigh...that ain't going to end either...well I suppose it will when the sun turns into a red giant but I did get a smoke detector just in case.🙂

That is just arrogance. The days when the US could happily impose its will upon the rest of the world are ending. The days when the masses of this country are held down by the system are ending. Make all the jokes you want, IT WILL HAPPEN.

Continuing with the joke theme....well if it does I'll let you go nyah, nyah, nyah to me but I think I'm still right.🙂

I'm with Kurch on this one. We're about as close to a "national collapse" as Jerry Springer is to having thoughtful, intelligent programming. 😛

Im not talking about the WORLD, Im talking about the US

So, you're saying you have absolutely zero belief that the power and desire (read that as greed) of the American people will not meet the problem and deal with it?

I notice that you post a lot of one liner posts full of gloom and doom. Just curious why. Do you have a hand in anything that might improve things? I'm not attacking you, it's just a general question I pose toward folks who deem things unworthy of recovery. It's a good conversation starter-- espectially for the folks who say very little but complain alot.

I don't think "the end is near" for the US. There are changes that need to be made. There are steps that should and CAN and likely WILL be taken...but the end? Nahh...for example, have you seen Germany, England, South Africa, etc., fall of the Earth recently? They've had their fair share of problems in the past too. The worst thing for any country is apathy on the partof its people. I just hope more folks don't walk around toting the sign on a crowded street and more try to make a change with more than their mouths.

Jo

Ugh, I never said the US was going to end, I said the days when we go around doing whatever we can whenever we want will soon be over. To answer Jobelle's ? I'm a member of Green Peace and volunteer at homeless shelters and animal shelters, if thats not enough for you then oh well. Complain I dont think so. Point out problems that need to be soleved, YES. Theres nothing gloom and doom about the US losing its status as THE world power.

Take it easy there guy. I never said a word about anyting "not being enough." Sheesh, you're kinda defensive.

I was a member of Green Peace for years. I took part in the guerrila tactics myself. I've spent some time in the bottom of a small rocking boat trying to do things that being young and stupid made me think were idealistic and brave. LOL Greenpeace has a lot of members. Some of them try extremist (and often illegal) actions to get issues in the public eye (which can be beneficial at times), and lot of them are members just to say they are. *shrug* It worked for me at a point in my life so I don't point fingers. I'd be interested to know what you do as a member. Are you an active participant? What have you been up to as a member that furthers fixing the problems you point out? I am all for volunteering. I work with a teen shelter and spend a lot of my personal time teaching and working with young, single, and scared teen mothers. So, I can dig the whole thing. I'm curious as to what you do with your time spent.

I'm posing the questions of your activities not to incite anger from you. I'm not accusing you of not "doing your part." You're just more ...how shall we say...."verbal" about your distaste with the current trend in Americana as we know it, so I figure you must be one of the more active people trying to make a difference. (This assumption might be wrong, but I'd hope not.) When people try to bring about change with just words directed at things they don't like, they tend to lose my respect. So, I pose the question to the squeaky wheels. You squeak.

I don't find conversations with list after list of problems to be of much interest. I prefer to talk about solutions. It's much more intersting as any idiot can bitch on and on. Once a converastion turns from a concept to a tangible, I think the dynamics of the conversation should become more real. So, tell me Icey, What do YOU think the average people should be doing?

Jo

So whos angry?? I was under the impression that you thought i said the US was going to be destroyed. I believe the average citzen should at least TRY to to look at the POV of other countries thus making the rest of the world less angry at us. Some people in this country feel we can do whatever we want, as if we have some God given right to rule the world. If more people knew more about what goes on this counrty then thered be less ingnorance and more tolerance.

Continuing with funny joke theme...so the US is not going to be destroyed... whew what a relief.

I can't hold a conversation with a three sentence rebuttal that didn't answer the questions posed, (see the last few posts) so I'll go the humor side too.

Umm...what was the joke again? 😛 oh yeah, NEENER! We're a world power, that's gonna stop overnight. Yeah, along with the rest of the influential countries in the world! 🙄

Jo...exiting because this thread is turning into the same old left versus right thing.

A friend of mine showed me this website. I think it explains my feelings about this issue better than I could on my own. Frankly, I feel a little more afraid of criticizing the government's mistakes than I used to.

www.dubyadubyadubya.com

Especially today, where critisizing the Government can have one labeled as a "traitor".

It goes back to the old "The King is Never Wrong" mantra that our founding fathers tried to break free of.

So, to keep the joking theme alive...

Yeah, disagreeing with the current administration will make you a full-blown enemy of the state! I mean, because, you know, everyone in America has 3 federal agents watching them every moment of every day! AIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! POLICE STATE!! POLICE STATE!!!!

Furthermore,

AIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!

😛😛😛

asutickler, I can't find anything ridiculous in the obviously widespread annoyance for SOME government acts. Your attempt to deride these feelings shows little understanding for the seriousness of the problems. Quite obviously, you've decided to see nothing and hear nothing that doesn't fit into your concept of the world.

Your joke sounds like very loud whistling in the dark forest. "No, there is no danger, surely it's safe, no danger at all!" (shiver)

Do you think the facts in my orginal post are all lies? An invention to discredit the present government? It that case, I'm not so sure who's really paranoid...

Oh come ON, Hal! Did I not preface my remarks by essentially saying "this is a joke?" As in: the following statements generally reflect my POV but are NOT to be taken seriously? As in: it's 4 in the morning, and I am probably betrunken und voll von der Scheiße? 😛

Anyways...

Neither can I. I'm rather annoyed at the government myself, just for different reasons... Such as the "huge" fine that the FTC just leveled on a dozen of America's largest brokerages, for significantly contributing to the current economic slump by publishing intentionally over-optimistic stock reports in order to artificially pereptuate the bull market for as long as possible. America's largest brokerages were fined a combined 120 million dollars for engaging in similar practices to those which triggered the Great Depression. That's akin to fining you or I a dime apiece for committing several hundred counts of grand larceny.

Just because I don't see some massive conspiracy to transform America into a Nazi police state dosen't mean I don't care... It also dosen't mean that I completely trust the government.

Read back through this thread, and you'll find an awful lot of folks who can't see anything that dosen't fit into their concept of the world. If I'm guilty, I'm certainly not alone... 🙄

Hehehe. If I was shivering, I'd say so. If I'm whistling through the forest, it's because I'm surrounded by crazed conspiracy-theorists. 😛

Actually, the opposite is true. I'm pretty certain that every fact you cited was true. However, I can hardly believe that any of these facts were presented in an unbiased fashion by whatever source you obtained them from. A journalist can take virtually any fact or statistic and find a way to make it support their view.

Amusing, but true...
