well I hope (have to say it again) you know it was not against you or your preferences! I know how to protect myself, but a lot of others don't. So I really appreciate your hints and I hope everyone else checks for a virus scanner too! Please do that!

Personally, I have hacha downloaded once (and checked it of course) and even if I get if as attachment, I do not use it. I'll do the same with join.exe, since no one can be sure to get the same thing each time....
Just as a hint for everyone.
Call me paranoid, everyone out there, but did you know that most spam is sent from hijacked computers whose owners don't know about it? DOS attacks are also started from computers of people thinking "everyone else can be infected, but not me!". Whatever bulls**t can be done without you knowing about it!

Those are all good points, but you have to understand something: The reason I brought it up, partly, was because in your previous post you asked why don't we all use WinAce. Well, I don't use WinAce. Many of us here don't. The same holds true for WinZip - some use WinRar. In fact, everyone takes a little bit different route when it comes to the subject. But if that's what works for you, fine. I don't have anything against it. The point is that there is nothing intrinsically wrong with using Hacha, WinAce, WinRar WinZip, HJSplit, spanning archives or a variety of other available utilities. Sure, using the same program may make things easier on some, but not others. A 2MB limit on attachments forces us to be a little creative in our weapons of choice. Mine happens to be a little outside the mainstream of thought here. In any case, your primary concern seemed to be the threat of viral infection from unfamiliar sources. This is why I referenced the website and recommended an AV program for everyone to investigate this issue on their own terms.

I can understand why you would scan each attachment before opening it. In fact I highly recommend it. True, there is no guarantee what you might download on each and every occasion. People download different parts at different times, so I include the utility as a convenience to everyone here. I can also understand why you would pose the issue as a "general question", as you put it. Duly and respectfully noted. Nonetheless, please keep in mind that should not limit one's particular choice of tools. I'm sorry if this approach is not conventional or "safe" enough some, but we all have to go our own way on this thing.

Although I'm getting somewhat off the subject, a few more utilities come to mind. While using an antivirus program is good, checking for spyware/adware is better.

One should look into a few of these programs, as well:

Wow Wanto.....Excellent post! Thanks for doing so much work on the Renfaire clips.

Far from having reservations about viruses or trojans, I've watched the debate over hacha from the safe distance of complete ignorance. Your instructions (which accompany the Renfaire 2002 offering) are the most complete, succinct and helpful I've come across. I have managed, in one simple operation, to successfully use a joining tool. That in itself would have been rewarding, but your work with the Renfaire footage is trully wonderful. I'm indebted to you. Anyone else with reservations about complexity or product, rest assured, this is easy and really well worth it!

Thank you for posting these clips. I was wondering, how do the solders get the victims into the stocks? Is there an incentive for being tickled such as a prize or donation to a charity?

to answer Love2tickle's question, as far as I heard, you are about to have an old document, which prooves you as a member of town. If you are asked by the guards and can't show this paper of, then you are going to be sit into the stocks and punished, as they suspect you of being an enemy spy (the siege of canelle what the faire is all about was a conflict between to towns, which ended in a war) so they torture you to fiind out whether you are one or not. That old document can be bought in the towns mall as a copy I think, but I don't know it exactly. It's the explenation of someone which I read about half a year or so. Isn't anyone here with italien relatives or so who could provide us with more information about this???

I think blacky is correct. The basic idea is that they capture unsuspecting female faire-goers without a pass, and then place them in stocks as "punishment".
