Heh. I think if you want to learn another language - like, potentially be able to carry on a very basic conversation, even - you should try learn the basics first. Like how many tenses there are and what the conditions of each tense may be, and go on from there. (Like how you'd learn French, or Spanish, or Dutch, or any language, really :stickout) But if you don't want to learn how to speak it fluently - even if at the start - then I'd just try to learn the basic phrases to make yourself feel more productive. 😛
I'm kind of learning very minimal bits and pieces of a language, and plan on taking French again the next year of University, but if you really want to study a language, I think it'll take years of continuous study, unless you just want to be dropped in a foreign country and pick up the language from complete and total immersion in it (which can vary from six months or more, all depending on how quickly your brain makes connections).
