Reading newsgroups
Using Google groups can help see some discussions, but they will not carry the attachments. Big files posted to newsgroups are posted as bunches of multipart MIME segments. What I would recommend is the following:
1. Download a program like Agent (http://www.forteinc.com/main/homepage.php). The commercial version is $29, but the FreeAgent edition will do most of what you want to do.
2. Find out from your ISP what your newsserver is. Generally, it's news.ISPNAME.com.
3. Launch the program, then follow the instructions to pull down a specific newsgroup (or all of the newsgroups so you can browse...there are tens of thousands of them!)
4. In FreeAgent (at least my version, which is probably 6 years old but still does what I want it to do), select the newsgroup alt.multimedia.tk and request that it pull down all of the headers.
5. In my version of Freeagent, when I see a video I want, I right click and select "Download binary attachment". This will then do two things: first, pull down all of the "parts" of the message, and second, combine all the parts into an assembled file. That file will generally be in your Agent directory though you can configure this. Once the file is combined, you usually can launch it from any message part (again, this may be different nowadays, like I said, I use a really ancient version of FreeAgent).
As someone else mentioned, some of the segments from Poster can run be hundreds of segments. You need bandwidth! Anyway, good luck and enjoy. Also, you can check out alt.binaries.multimedia.erotica.tickling and alt.sex.fetish.tickling (though both are now hardly anything but virus-infested hardcore sex spam).
I wish I had more details on using the current version of FreeAgent but like I said, my version is ancient...their online help tends to be pretty good though, and there may be others here who have something to add.
Peace,
Stacy
