Lately I've been thinking a lot about tickling in mainstream movies, random videos, etc.
I love how it is non scripted and spontaneous as opposed to the tickling videos our there. Or is it?
I mean what does the script say?
Does it just say "tickle fight on the bed" for those scenes we have all seen?
Or "he reaches over and tickles her foot"?
Do they let the actors play it out themselves? I'm assuming the actors actually agree as some people hate tickling. Are there in blooper reels that are deleted because someone has a violent reaction?
Or am I just crazy over thinking? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

I've taken the concept of DC's "ElseWorld" and Marvels "What If..." stories and used the term ElseTickle. The idea being that if there was a situation where a character in a movie or TV series (or in some cases real life) was in a position to be tickled, but it didn't happen you can rewrite the scene either literally (and please post it).

For example:

In the film Bandidas Maria (Penelope Cruze) and Sara (Selma Hayek) are able to subdue a naked Quinten (Steve Zhan) on the bed of his hotel room. It's a sexy and funny scene, but what if they had resorted to tickle torture to get him to give-up the information the wanted from him... presto, an Elsetickle has been created.

Sometimes it's scripted, sometimes it's spontaneous 🙂

Jenna Fischer talked about a tickling scene she was in on The Office once on her podcast. She was in a fight with her boyfriend on the show and he tickled her to break the ice. On the podcast she said "And the thing that was weird is that him doing that worked - I hate being tickled, but I had to act like him tickling me worked."

I took a couple of things from that - one, it was in the script, and two she hated it but it didn't matter. It was written for her character, and that was her job that day.

Actually I have the clip, here it is

I just added this to my "Couple of Lists" posts. Who's interviewing Jenna?

There are a lot of interviews that show on-screen tickling is often real. Sometimes it's scripted, sometimes it's something happened spontaneously and the director decides "oh, that works!" Being tickled is, after all, something that most people consider a normal interaction and not a huge deal... and it makes better film to just do it for real instead of going to elaborate lengths to fake it. (Unless someone who's supposed to be tickled just isn't ticklish, in which case the tickling will be real but the reaction isn't.) It's even part of an acting concept, "enforced method acting."

So clearly a lot of mainstream scenes do show real tickling. (I'm convinced my own recently-discovered personal favorite mainstream scene is real: https://www.ticklingforum.com/threa...-fff-f-now-with-hd-downloadable-files.444190/. I know some people disagree, but hey, opinions will differ.)

Wow, thank you for finding that. Looks like sometimes they have to indeed "take one for the team" 🪶😁

Firstly a big 😁😁😁 on that scene. That's just what I was referring to!
Most of the scenes I have seen look unscripted. However, the longer they go on, I can't help but wonder if the actors are actually enjoying themselves. 😉
I mean it stands to reason that there would have to be, though carefully hidden, at least some tickle lovers amongst the acting community. 🪶

It is a great scene. When someone posted it at DeviantArt, I couldn't believe I'd never seen it before.

And yes, I certainly think they all look like they're having fun. Jessica May (the actress being tickled) seems a bit overwhelmed, but she doesn't seem upset, and the way she keeps giggling after they stop is just too cute. And it looks like the older actresses were having a blast tickling the younger star of the show.

The way she gives up then changes her mind does it for me. Probably scripted I know, but so similar to reality. A Lee's final last play during the interrogation. To concede, then change of mind thinking "OK it's all over". I extra punishment should be in store for time wasting. Lol😉
That scene is such a great find!

Yeah, i think that assuming the actor is ticklish (and most people are) and isn't "will quit the show" adverse to being tickled (most aren't), it seems easier to actually tickle someone then fake it, so I assume most mainstream tickle scenes are real.

Then again, you'd assume it would be easy enough for a tickling-focused studio to find a model who's actually ticklish, but tickle smut is full of people clearly acting. So what do I know? Maybe people just really like faking tickling.

I think the "acting" issue in videos comes more from models exaggerating their reactions than just not being ticklish and faking it completely. You can get a sense from the Canelli videos of how many people just aren't ticklish. It happens, but it's a lot less common than people that are.

I don't mind videos where the model is ticklish without being wildly ticklish. A natural giggling reaction can be as cute as a hysterical reaction.

As much as I like the fact that more and more studios do tickling videos, the more commercial it becomes, the more open it will be to exaggeration and faking.
The desire to make a quick buck often leads to models being picked on looks rather than ticklishness.

Quite recently, a producer posted a preview clip here of a cute 'lee who was ticklish without being super-ticklish. I liked her. Her reaction wasn't wild, but she was definitely reacting to the tickling and had a cute genuine giggle. Some people scoffed that she "wasn't ticklish." That kind of reaction encourages producers to push for overacting rather than accept the real reaction a model like that, who is ticklish but not crazy ticklish. (To use the Canelli videos again as an example, you get a wide range of reactions from flinching and giggling to total hysteria... as opposed to the pretty rare just-not-ticklish people with no reaction at all.)

Of course it does happen that producers have models who really aren't ticklish, or aren't ticklish in that moment... and the better producers (there are many) either don't use the footage or release it with an honest description.

To me it is a case of fantasy vs reality. If you take a poll, and there are always plenty, on people's preferences, you will get the following.
Preferred Lee: Model, actor, sports star, etc.
Level of ticklishness: Extreme, to insane.

Now we all know that's fantasy,, people's wish list. But if you're a producer, your goal is to indeed give people what they want. Catering to the masses will give you your best result. Now somewhere, there has to be a compromise. So either you have a bunch of hyper ticklish super good looking people who are actually willing to be driven insane, just waiting around to be filmed. Or you "fake it till you make it".
