You think you have heard it all, and then this!

Sky Sports coverage of sundays live games included of course acres of gratuitous, mawkish, sentimental tosh about the Munich air crash. This commemeration fest has been heavily orchestrated by Man United, indeed milked dry by the Man U marketing people in a thoroughly synical and shamless manner.

The whole self regarding, attention seeking sham reached a crescendo today with the Manchester Derby.

Rather unpolitely City did not stick to the script and won the game Two goals to one.

And the reason for the defeat as grovellingly delivered by Andy Gray and his side kick?........the whole occasion turned out to be just too much for poor old Man Utd to cope with...ah....bless!

Its easy to how all those Manchester born lads like Ronaldo, Nemanda Vidic, Carlos Tevez,Edwin Van der sa would have been stricken with grief throughout the game.

I don't understand a word of this! Is it sports?

It may be just me, but I don't see the political or religious relevance of this thread, especially when we have a sports sub forum.

Politics involves the allocation of scare resources, such as wins for Man United. Er, whatever they are.

You missed the sports forum, but you get a hearty 'Hear, hear!' from this lifelong Newcastle fan 😉

their home field is called old tafford right. i love that.

Hmmm, first of all, red indian; ever heard of the sports forum?

Secondly, I don't know why you take the opinion of Andy Gray as some kind of official United excuse statement.

And thirdly, what excuses are Derby County going to offer for potentially being the worst team in the history of the Premiership?

1. I did not put this post in here, i put it in the general section. A mod must have moved it

2. For those mystified US posters who are feeling a bit confused, I am talking about a strange and frightening place called....ABROAD (Not the USA) sorry to shock you, but the earth is not flat!

3.The ground is call OLD TRAFFORD

4.There is never ANY chance of a club like Derby County being allowed the priviledge by the media, of face saving excuses for losing a game. We have to put up with the plain old truth.

5. When have I sought to proffer excuses for their lamentable display this season? evidence please?

Shire, I might add that todays papers have been taking a similar brown nosing line with poor happless down trodden Man U.

I have to admit, Shire, whilst Derby County are the epitome of a ridiculously bad football team 🙂D) I'm with Red on this one. Alan Hansen was in the paper telling us how even the foreign players would have been affected by all the nostalgia. I don't buy this for a second - I really don't believe it could have that much an impact on them that they suddenly play a bit crap. It happens from time to time, even to Manchester United.

Manchester City were brilliant on the day and thoroughly deserved the win, and deserve to be given the sole credit for it, and not having the dishonour bestowed on them by the media of attributing the win to the effect of the anniversary on Man U.

Worst Man United Excuse? Blaming a 6-1(or similar) thumping from Southampton as being down to their away strip being bad luck, although to be fair it was a god awful kit...

Man City were brilliant on Sunday a thoroughly deserved win for them Man U simply didnt turn up for the game, but due to the occasion it was obvious that all these excuses would be wheeled out

I love how you guys dedicate one sentance to how this isn't the sports thread...

THEN BACK TO REALITY....

back and forth trashing Man U, Derby and Southampton....like you reeeealy give one quantum fuck what thread it's in!

You all are fucking insane and I would give anything to go to The UK and get drunk (or pissed as you guys call it) and experience just ONE of those games for real! The only thing that even comes close over here is when the Sox play the Yankees in either stadium.

No...the Superbowl doesn't come close...it might be advertized to supreme fuck...but no, not even on this radar.

I'd strongly advise you against going to a Man United game then if you want to experiance the atmosphere of a british football match, Old Trafford is more akin to a wake rather than a football match, go to a team outwith the top four or the lower leagues and that is an atmosphere

Pish! The atmosphere at Anfield is good. If you get a seat in the Kop. And they're all feeling rowdy. And they're playing someone decent. And Torres and Gerrard are on. Yeah fuck it, the atmosphere at footy games is shit these days. If you really want to experience what the atmosphere WAS like then you need to go to Parkhead, none of the big stadiums have that sort of cauldron anymore and none of the lower league teams have big enough stadiums to make the proper noise. The way Parkhead is now is how it used to be like that every week in the Prem until the stewards got their Hitler haircuts and cunts started bringing their kids to matches and moaning at you to sit down and not swear. You can't even throw a bog roll onto the pitch these days without being lambasted as a hooligan and banned for life from every ground in England 🙁 I blame Sky to be honest.

It burns my guts to say anything in support of the mancs, but at least they don't meet every home defeat with protests calling for the manager/ board/ chairman/ tea lady to be sacked :-O

Too much for Man Utd to cope with. Indeed. Sounds like they got tripped up in embarrassing fashion. Kind of like our previously undefeated friends up there in Foxborough.

For all the sentimental hoopla (and there seems to be quite a bit of it) surrounding this plane crash fifty years ago- an event that my mother actually remembered (in pure word association, she matches 'Manchester United' with 'plane crash'), how could they lose on the day of its remembrance to Manchester City?

You take your lumps now, you fools.

The kop I have heard is still good for decent atmosphere, you are right enough headsnap
As for parkhead i work with a few tims who go to the games regularly and they say the atmosphere at parkhead is electric but only for old firm and european games, Its no wonder they have a fantastic home record in europe they really do have the 12th man at parkhead, but in the regular league games, they dont really care unless theres a goal to be had

I was lucky enough to get to a few games where the grounds still had the old terraces and they were the best, The shed end at tannadice was always brilliant for the derbies when it had the terracing great atmosphere and some of the songs that people made up were brilliant, just a pity i was too young to fully appreciate it.

We really should take a leaf out the germans and get the new standing sections they have at some stadiums now

Hillsbrough was a number of factors....The fact it was standing being a factor yes but not the defining factor. For one the turnstiles at the stadium were outdated and unable to prevent people from climbing over, also the police failed to act properly when people were just climbing over the turnstiles to get into the stand.

The police also failed to open the security gates at the fences that led onto the pitch it was this that led to people dying because they were being crushed, thankfully fans are no longer penned in like animals anymore in british grounds.

And anyway, have you actually seen the standing sections they have? Its just like a seating layout except there is bars infront of you so you can stand its all very safe, take a look. www.truststfc.co.uk/safe_standing.php

I know what happened at Hillsborough. I'm from Sheffield - it's something everybody from Sheffield knows, even if it didn't happen in their lifetime.

Thanks for the link - looks promising. I personally like to sit on the terraces - I hate standing for long periods of time. Done far too much of that in the military.

You want to see some atmosphere??? Chech this!!!!

Benficas last league title party at stadium of light. Now before you say me ok it´s a tittle party I want to say something. This video was filmed already past 5a.m. on a sunday.......now you get the point!!!! Very few clubs will keep almost 40.000 people past 5am singing when they have to work on the same day. But we were there and as you can hear loud and clear...we were not even close to leaving!!!!

I never went to sleep this night...just went home quickly to take a bath, change clothes and go to work 🙂 you may not like the club but you will admit this is passion 😉
