Awhile back, a girlfriend was having back pains and asked if I'd give her a massage to ease her suffering. So, I borrowed a general massage book from a friend who is a licensed massage therapist. One of the key points of practically every "style" of massage, be it Eastern or Western in origin, is not to "jump" from area to area while one is giving a massage, but rather to work your way towards areas, the hands maintaining contact if at all possible. Some of the Eastern styles seem to stress this as being very important in terms of healing energy and the body/mind connection as a whole.
Okay, having said that, do you think that we tickle people might be doing some harm in some metaphysical sense when we tickle(since part of the art usually involves the exact opposite of massage, hopping around from spot to spot, putting each other on edge rather than at ease)? Your thoughts?

Interesting question

Let's remember that the goals in tickling are diametrically opposed to the goals in massage. Massage is to relieve stress, and to create a state of total relaxation. Tickling is to inflict stress of a sort, and create a state of tension. Is tickling harmful to our metaphysical state? I would say rather that it is disruptive, and deliberately so. However I'm convinced that such stress and metaphysical disruption are as crucial to a healthy psyche, perhaps as much so as massage and relaxation. Each needs to be balanced with the other.

good point..i know wot yu mean......im stuck on this one tho!! anything that relaeses endorphins is good for you...but maybe thereis soem strain put on the body..i wonder if tying the victim up tighter helps then?😉

i tickled my sisters friends feet sometimes, and before and afterwards, i go easy like a massage. She still laugh and she says it feels good so everyones happy😀

This may be slightly off-topic, but one of my friend gives really good tickle-massages. Yes, it's a combination of tickling and massage (not massaging technique alternated with tickling technique, nor a single technique that is in the middle between the two, but rather a technique that is fully both at once). If you do it right, there is no contradiction between the two.

Now this definitely sounds like my cup of tea!! Where can I find me a person who is proficient at this??? Yummy!!! I have often thought about combining the two both as the giver and the receiver. I might need to test out my skills at giving this...

I know about tickle massages!!

Hey tickle-massages are right up my alley!

I think I know what starfire means...if you use the tips of your fingers with light pressure you can get that tickle-massage technique down. The key is to not "tickle" the area with your tips, but massage with the tips...the tips hit those tickle nerves but also "massage" the muscle underneath.
I usually end a tickle session with a massage if the ticklee has been tied up for a long time...of course tickle sessions have started because of a back massage that wandered too close to the sides...🙄

I agree that tickling can "stress up" some ticklees, so that's why I like to give a massage before and after a tickling, even if it's just a foot massage for a foot tickling. That way, I feel like they at least enjoy the massage part, and will be more willing to return for a tickling/massaging. But I also do full body massages, with interspersed tickles, too. Just a hands-on kind of guy. 😀

I say...bring it on!!!

Hey Y'all! I'm alive! Been a coupla weeks since I was able to hop online(connection is still reeaalllllly slow), but I wanted to thank everyone who gave insightful comments on the massage vs. tickling thread, esp. Drew 70, who I think made a very valid point.

Actually, after a good tickling....from what I have seen and heard, including myself, one feels relieved of stress. Like after a good hard workout! Massages are for muscle relaxion which will trickle into a psychological state of relaxation whereas tickling is a blast to the psychological and cardiovascular system that will trickle or even flow to the muscular.

Just my opinion, perhaps yours too.

I think TTD said everything I was going to put....

But that is how I feel, I mean...ive yet to hear of anything bad taking place because of excessive prior tickling. If anything, ive heard that it actually helps the blood to flow and keeps your body healthy.
