masturbation? (Christians)

well, a recent study says doing it helps prevent a certain type of cancer in the future...In any case, I'm Catholic and I do it regardless what the Bible says...I'm not gonna get into a religious debate, but my personal thought on the matter is, it's better to masturbate in the privacy of your home, than to attempt rape to quell your raging hormones.

That is indeed so true. Get it out of your system before it gets bad.
I wonder if this has a connection to all the "priests that sexual abuse children/women" cases that happends all the time all over the world.

actually to be honest, ive never really gave that much thought, i mostly thought tickling was a sin, but i never have thought about that, im not excactly sure but i guess it wouldnt be a BIG sin

If thinking about stuff like tickling etc also is a sin, then I sin 24/7!
Love it! :super_hap

that's my theory of that matter as well...but we're getting sidetracked on the subject

Even though my politics takes me somewhat to the right, religiously and sexually I'm liberal. If you choose to masturbate as opposed to cheating on your spouse then I think it's a good thing. We are creatures of hormones and chemicals, that's the way we were created. Some people are very hormonally charged. The trouble with religion is that it tries to pigeonhole everyone into one template with one behavior pattern which I think is wrong. So it is my opinion as a Catholic that masturbation is a not a sin. Being obsessed with it, I would call sinful because you can ruin your life and relationships. Things were called sins to prevent people from screwing up their life on earth and after it. Something that causes your life peril because of behavior is a sin. If it is not or potentially could not cause you or others peril it is not a sin. The definition of peril could be argued.

Personally, in the words (roughly) of Sir Galahad, I am quite willing to face the peril.

my best guess on why it's considered to be a sin would be, if any of you may recall during your first time(s) doing so, you had an inexplicable feeling of guilt afterwards....perhaps the people writing the Bible took note of this and thought of it as a sign from God what they did was wrong?
