I have an unwanted roommate.

Several years ago, in the winter, I had problems with mice in my apartment. They were mostly in the living room/dining room area of my apartment. I used conventional mouse traps to kill them, and haven't had a problem since, until now.

Tonight, my "little furry friends" returned with a vengenance, and this one is too close for comfort, in my room! I was just sitting at the computer, doing one of my favorite nightly tasks, debating with AJC writer Mark Bradley, when suddenly, a little ugly looking grey thing peered from behind my bed. I got so startled, I said something like "Oh My God", and the damn thing crawled back behind my bed.

Let me be clear: I'm not afraid of the suckers. I've set traps, and disposed of many dead mice, in the years I'm living here. It's just.. unappetizing, to know that one is in my room!

I won't be going out again until Friday. I'll have to get traps, and set them. Hopefully, the traps will put them into the little mouse graveyard in the sky.

ICK!

Good luck with the mice. Although I gotta say this metaphor bugs me. Are you implying that they're going to die, go to heaven, and then get buried in the afterlife?

No.. it was a sarcastic joke. All I'm really saying is.. I want to get rid of the suckers, any which way I can, especially because I saw one in my room!

We've been fighting a seemingly endless battle with them at my dad's house. I've yet to see any out in the open. But, I constantly hear the buggers scampering back and forth in the cieling of the room I stay in. I'm sure they're elsewhere in the house as well. But, since that room is the only one (other than the cellar) with a drop ceiling, they're much more audible. There was one night that I could have sworn they were having a wild party, they were so active. I even considered putting on some dance music for them. lol I don't mind them at all and actually think they're cute. But, they do enough damage to want to evict them.

I'm sorry to hear about all the mice in your dad's house, Ann. I hope you can catch them.

The other night, I thought I heard something rattling in my dining room, but couldn't see anything. Tonight, I've already had two sightings, in the dining room, and right near my bed in my room. I found some traps that I didn't remember I had, , and have one trap set up near the wall. If it snaps and catches something in the middle of the night, I hope it doesnt wake me up and give me a heart attack, lol.

Hopefully, whatever way, the traps will catch the suckers. They really are unappetizing to live with!

Good luck, Mitch! What are you using in them? My brother's been setting traps repeatedly and has had good luck using peanut butter to attract them.

That's exactly what I'm using, Ann.. Peanut Butter. In the past, I've caught several mice that way, using the old snap traps. The jaw type traps haven't worked for me, as the mice snared the peanut butter, and the trap didn't get them.

I live out in a fairly rural area. When I moved in I had mice, ants, gnats, bees. I have a pest control guy come in and I pay the 50 plus a month. So far so good.

Reeses peanut butter cups are the best bait...and they were not dancing Annie....they were havin an orgy.....beware!

Interesting, ray. For now all I have is conventional peanut butter. I can try the Reeses though.

us, I have wasps in the summer. At least several a season. They come in either through my AC vent, or a space in my window, even though I have it taped up. When I see one, I just use the old Raid, and it kills them.

Mitch

LOL! Thanks, carl.

I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to have a cat here. I've never had a cat, as I'm a dog lover. I know I'm allowed to have a small dog, up to 35 lbs, so I imagine cats are allowed, but I'll pass, thank you. The mouse trap will have to suffice.

Mitch

^this!

I want a kitty!

I hate the mice I see in my apartment, although since my man single handedly caught 5 of those suckers and put them outside, I don't see them as much anymore. I still hear them every night though. 🙁

I'm the mice disposer in this place. I live with my mom, as most forum members are aware, but she wont even touch the things. The trap snaps, and I get to deal with it.

It doesnt matter. I will happily remove them, as long as I dont have to see them slinking around along the walls.

Hopefully you can solve your mice problem quickly Mitch.I gotta admit, I laughed at the part where you were startled and screamed out because I had a similar experience recently.

I came home drunk one night to a dark apartment and was startled by a mouse in my kitchen.I thought it was a sponge til that sum bitch scurried across the f**kin' counter.Needless to say I cried out as well. 🙂

Good luck with getting rid of them.

Thanks, bizkit.

It's just a bit.. unnerving to be surprised by mice. Now I'm ready for them. The traps are set, with peanut butter waiting. Let the suckers try to get that stuff, and watch their heads get snapped off!

I'm bumping this nearly year old thread.. because..

I saw a mouse this evening for the first time in a long time. I dont have any traps in the apartment. I'll have to go buy them tomorrow.

I'm guessing they probably come inside in the cold weather. Hopefully I can get rid of them.

^You need to seal up the holes in your house.^

If the traps don't produce a good result, get a cat. Even if you don't like cats, adopt one for a month and see if it doesn't scare away all the mice. You can find a new home for it if you still don't like cats at the end of the month.

Carl, I'm not sure about holes.

Mils, I dont like cats, and wouldnt want to take care of one. I'll try traps.

Mitch

Okay, thanks, I'll have to look into it.

I forgot to buy the trap yesterday, and I saw the sucker again today. I"m not going to the market again until Thursday. I will be buying traps then.

^Just as long as they don't eat you out of house and home.:mwahaha:^

When we livedin an apartment we had a run in with the little fellas too. Once,in the middle of the night I woke up and heard a shaking noise. I thought I left a gold chain on or something so I shook myself to hear if I heard it again, I didn't. I got up and heard it again. I turned on a light and saw a mouse struggling in a mouse trap. I picked the trap up and disposed of the little creature. That's when we alerted the landlord. He had an exterminator come to the apt. and he got rid of them.
If you rent it's the LL's problem to readicate them. Call him and tell him about it. Good Luck

Sorry to hear that boxr.

I have to use traps. My mom cant have an exterminator, because of her allergies, and lung conditions. The chemicals would make her wheeze.

Traps have worked in the past. Hopefully they will again.
