I have to laugh at this. Barry Bonds has gotten hammered for the last, I don't know, probably decade or so because of steroid use. People have accused him of using steroids and when it became public that he had used steroids I remember signs in stadiums taunting him about it. The simple fact is that no one cares anymore. Everyone has suspected that he knowingly took steroids, all these tests did was further confirm what has been written in multiple books and said on numerous television programs. I mean pretty much everyone, with the exception of a select few, shares the opinion that Barry Bonds is a liar and an asshole. The positive tests were just more proof about something we already believed. Part of the reason it isn't that big of a story is because he has become irrelevant and no one cares about him anymore.

I will say one thing about the positives test though, I disagree with them being admitted as evidence. Barry Bonds, along with the other major leaguers who were tested, submitted tests to Major League Baseball with the understanding that these were confidential and that he would not be punished for a positive test. The tests were meant to see if steroid use was a problem and if testing should be implemented. For the Federal Government to seize confidential tests and use them as evidence seems wrong to me.

The thing about Phelps is that he just won the most gold medals every won in a single olympics and he is still in his prime. He's going to get more media attention than Barry Bonds because people don't "expect" to see photos of Michael Phelps smoking weed because it isn't the image he has put out there.

But he still played. He also perjured himself in court. Phelps didnt deny anything, he admitted it and apologized. Bonds used excuses from he didnt do it to his trainer did it, etc etc, passing the blame to everywhere but him. And he caught hell for it every step of the way. Michael Phelps will quickly be forgiven for this but his judgement has to be called into question when this is the second time he has been caught doing something illegal. At some point you have to be smart enough to do your business in private. I have no problem with him smoking pot, despite it being illegal, but the man needs to have better judgement and smoke his pot in the privacy of his own home or away from people with camera phones.

As far as the Bonds thing goes, he never would have submitted the test had he known they would be used against him. Major League Baseball promised him immunity for any positive tests and also promised ambiguity. For the Federal Government to come in and seize those results is unethical. Plus, I believe the judge will not be able to admit them anyway because they will be unable to verify that the specimen are his because they were taken by a private firm. I'm sure they have a strong enough case without the samples though because the Feds have something like a 95% conviction rate.

ok the usa swimming has suspended him for 3 monthes, and the olympics arent for 4 more years so no harm. he may have lost one sponser but the rest say they are committed. as i said he is ok in the money dept and he will be in the next olympics swimming so i dont see this as a big deal.

We are spending way to much time on the steroid issue..It benefitted baseball but they do not take much blame!! Are they apologizing to the fans? I think not!! im aware of that but lets be real they are all that matters, the rest is just practice.By the way his suspension just happens to end right before the world championships which will allow him to compete in. The Olympics are where he makes his legacy and his money and he will be there. Im sure he will eventually spin this and do anti-marajuana commercials and become an advacite aganist kids using drugs which will make him more money than before.

I think Michael Phelps will loose a few sponsors, but by the time of the next Olympics he will get them back. I thought it was very foolish of him, not to smoke weed, but to have the picture taken on a camera phone.
