In 1979, when the casinos in Atlantic City were recently opened, I was stuck there by a blizzard with a friend of mine from high school. Fortunately, the extra forced day there turned out to be profitable by about $150 at a blackjack table.

If you count a car dealership as a store, then a new Dodge Colt in 1976 for $3200. (That was a subcompact car of a model discontinued many years ago. I suspect a similar new car would cost ten times as much today.)
