It's because there's a choice in the matter. It's not, she wasn't hired and that is the end of it. Rather, it's that someone else was hired over her. When you don't really know much, what little you know can go a long way. That's just how jobs and interviews work.

How on earth did anyone find that out

They went to google, they typed in the name, the E-mail address, or whatever, and it somehow was linked to work she did and it just popped up. Employers do that nowadays! You better don't have any pics of you partying on Facebook, could cost you a job!

So if you do stuff like that, you better either make sure that nothing points to you whatsoever (which is pretty damn hard when it comes to the internet), or you don't apply for jobs where it could hurt you (which you never know unless you have a crystal ball at home).

find the whole big deal about non-nude non blatantly sexual fetish work ridiculous. Be it tickled with bondage, plain bondage, damsel in distress, smoking, balloon popping, pies in the face, stepping on little plastic men, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

Depends! In my friend's case, it was pretty bad because she wanted to be a teacher. Can you imagine what would have happened if they didn't find out upfront, but later her students? It wouldn't have been a very pleasant situation!

If she tried to be a hairstylist, probably nobody would have given a damn. But try something like a bank, and again you might be screwed.

PLUS, when you think about it, why is modeling in a bikini or lingerie in a magazine such as Maxim any better then fetish modeling?(

Because people modelling in there usually earn their money just by modelling.
