My first pic of 2007. (Second verse, same as the first.)

Jack - It's a great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. 😉

Kal - I think I can sorta understand what he was implying with the desperate inability to escape and the barrenness. But it does sound like a dreadfully boring place.

Timewarp - Wow! I'm flattered. n_n Thanks again for the great score.

meangry - Well, I have it on good authority that I am pretty delicious. 😛 You must have a sexy girlfriend. 😉

Vegeta - Thanks, kiddo. n_n It's always good to hear that ya like my work.

FF7 - I've been in a bit of a odder mood. I'm... happier. Maybe that's the different like of thought. And if ya can't find any opportunities... I dunno... ask?

Well, that's certainly good news if you're feeling happier lately. For that can change a lot of things. As for asking, you can officially consider yourself asked then with this post. :3 That is, if you think you could handle some more tickling after the whole demon sidetrip.

It was.
There was more than just pain to it: there were despair and regret.
Constant brooding.

...

You can sometimes sympathise with the damned, but you can usually guess why, by Dante's moral compass, they had to stay there.

Hatake - It's a bit ironic that I spend so much time and money getting clothes and look better without them. n_n Thanks, kiddo

FF7 - Happiness increases productivity in the Sammi world, too. Even after the demons, I can handle a surprising amount. Hit me with a PM or somethin' and tell me what you'd like to see.

Kal - It's been my understanding for a while that the true misery of Hell isn't the pain, but the separation from God. And it seems like it's more the point that Dante was trying to get across in a lot of those descriptions. Though I've never read "The Inferno" (shame on me), it seems like some sounds like one action dictated not only what level but also whether or not they went to Hell at all. I'd disagree if that's what he's saying, but like I said, I haven't read it. n_n;;

We should point out that Dante got banished from Florence, during the Welfes vs Weiblingens strife, and separation from "greater good" is an underlying theme with the Comedy.

Separation is indeed one of the things damned do brood about, but other reasons for brooding are betrayal, revenge and pride.

Dante did believe in God, but his beliefs were part of a complex political system, in which the deity was more than just the source of Grace, but also the source of [earthly] power.

...

Then again, I take a rather detached stance at the whole thing.
To us it is early XIV cent. religion; we've been through much, and it now borders on myth for some of us.

😀

I'm loving your comeback! the Hell-ish situation looks rather inviting.... seems your character isn't enjoying it.... but i bet she is really 😉
I'm sure Katie wouldn't mind getting her hands on your gothic toon 😉 or maybe the other way round.... (lol)
Great pic can't wait to see more 🙂

Kal - Unfortunately, I'm none too familiar with that point in time. But I could see how banishment could inspire the things he wrote. I think you're right about the different view many centuries later. God, the Devil, and all that go with them have sorta become more like literary characters in the mainstream eye than the figures they used to be.

c_tickler - Oooh, you know I'm loving every second of it. 😉 Hehe. I bet Katie would have a field day making me squirm. 😛 I hope to have more art as the year continues. Thanks, dude. n_n

Midnight - It's probably not too late to jump in.

Wicked! 🙂 This one is even better than the previous one! I like the new look you've given yourself in this picture, a much original departure from the anime look, while still retaining a kind of anime-ish cuteness in it. Fantastic work! 🙂

I had to take a lot of cues on how to draw the gothic/punk look from American animation, but I think it blended nicely with the anime style I usually used. The Japanese just don't tend to draw many gothic characters. Thanks again for the encouraging words. I really appreciate it.

i like this little series! we get to see a gorgeous and sexy Sammi get tickled! put in a recliner and free beer and this "hell" turns into heaven 😀

Nah...I haven't read the thing in awhile, I don't really remember what my prof had to say about it at the time, and the things that have been said pretty much cover the whole thing. I've also been without a computer for a few dys (or more, lost track of time), so if I was going to say anything else, I certainly don't remember what it was any longer. I guess the only thing that I can say is that the deeper tragedy concerning Dante's Comedy as a work is that, much as was the case with Milton's Paradise Lost, those events centering around the infernal are much more interesting and sympathetic than those involving the divine. I'm not quite sure what that says about humanity as a whole, but it certainly says something when Satan and/or a horde of the damned are much more enticingly human than the "Greatest Good."

One thing of note: though one may find the work on-the-whole boring, some interesting bits come in the poetic punishments of some of the damned. It's also amusing, whether intentionally or unintentionally, to watch any two of the damned bicker about their respective states--especially when they were once lovers.

Ya know, me and my roommate were discussing that very thing tonight, about how Hell and those trapped within are more interesting than those who were rewarded. I think it's because there's a struggle. And even one that can never be overcome is more interesting than no struggle at all. Someone goes to Heaven and the reaction is like "Oh, and everything's perfect forever. That's nice." But if someone winds up in Hell you want to know the why and stuff. They likely seem more human because life on Earth isn't that great. It's filled with conflict and struggling and if someone doesn't have that in their life, you don't have a common ground to relate to. Hence, the damned are a bit easier to sympathize with.

Bingo. I think it also has a great deal to do with humanity being closer to its animal urges (i.e. the darker desires of the id) than polite society would have us admit. Not only do we all experience our own personal versions of hell here on earth, but each of us are also capable of doing things that would supposedly land us there in spite of our own civilization.

It's also entirely possible that people just dwell on the idea of a punishment like that more than they would a reward. It's often a lot easier to motivate human beings by threatening something unpleasant. Not because the reward is insufficient, but because if you don't reach it, there's no loss. If you put the fear of loss behind them, it becomes a motivating factor. So losing freedom and the chance for happiness to Hell becomes something that people are more likely to dwell on.

Wow, you've become quite a nudist lately... I like this. :ayyy:

Your technique is getting better and better with each one, and you have really good concepts too, which is something that's rare. Nice jugs-- er job.

*muses* Goth girl pulled into Hell... tickled... losing clothes along the way... *snaps out of it* Oh!

Thanks dude. It seems like lately I've been on a role. Actually liking the work I produce and stuff. 😵 It's weird. I'm glad you like not only the way it's drawn, but also the themes. Hehehe. Thanks, kiddo. 😉

No prob. Lately I've been more interested in the concepts than technique. Which is really the more important thing in the end.

Well, I'm glad mine are interesting enough to catch your eye. I try to keep things novel enough that it doesn't slip into the "yet another tk picture" rut. Coming up with interesting settings is half the fun.

Indeed, it's more than possible I'd say. One would almost believe that people crave punishment. Breaks up the monotony.
