Here's a toon I first saw in the mid-80s and I believe it is a Smithtoon, one of his first ones if it is. It was part of an advertising mail sent out by somebody named Tobias Hackner, who for a while had a monopoly of the non-film tk material back then.

That is not a Smith toon. Recently I've been doing alot of digging into my pre-net tk material, including the stuff i collected from Tobias Hackner from 1984-89 or so. The first letter I recieved from the nefarious Ayatolla of the tk community included his price list of various stories/toons; this toon Jts posted was on the first page. (That was in mid-84, Smith began tooning in 1985) After months of pestering the guy, Hackner finally sent me a clearer copy of this toon, along with the small story that went with it. He said he got it out of some magazine years earlier. In this copy you can plainly see the sig, "CBS"...Whoever that is. The style does not seem to be that of the latr CB. Anyway, here's the copy sent to me.
