Nicest People You've Chatted To Or Met From The Board So Far

if it was rapeir on katana, whatever happened it would be very fast 😛

I'm decent with a bow, and I can wield a sword or a mace.

...

Yet, my favourite style is colliding with the foe and the pummeling it with any spare appendage until its insides are on the outside.
And then I usually start calling it names, and making fun of its mother.

...

Nah, just joking.
I never make fun of anybody's mum.

...

😀 😀 😀

And it's called a "rapier", and contrary to popular DnD belief, it was by no means a *fast* weapon.
It actually was fairly slow, compared to a true foil, or the hybrid colichemarde.

What they usually pass off for a rapier, isn't.

sorry, that was a typo on my behalf.
I was under the impression a foil wasnt an actual fighting weapon, but just for practice. but then I've only seen it when I did a bit of fencing...

So what sword do they usually pass off for a rapier?

please steer the thread back on topic or take this to random banter, eh?

Another good chat with mercy socks and blackmagic now ^_^ . Anyone else up for joining?

Last time I checked, it [also] was one of the evolutionary stages of the thrusting fencing sword.

I know it's completely pointless and OT, but DnD make a big mess with all those non-medieval non-european weapons.
Let katana alone, the close fencing didn't come into use until mid XVII cent.
That means 1650.

When I say "close fencing" I mean a very quick fencing style, where you can strike with the same weapon you parry with.
Odsblud, you might reply, I can parry with a broadsword, and then strike back.
Aye, I'll concede, but you can't do a "risposte" attack: you can't parry and strike back in the same motion.
You can try, but most swords are just too short and unwieldy for that.

Estocs - I own one... - were the earlier version of rapiers, dating back to as old as 1350, but they were shorter, heavier and desperately trying to cram the best of two worlds in one blade: the thrusting and the cutting side.

Most other swords were only good for slashing, though, until 1500-1550.

...

It should be mentioned "civilian" blades and military blades were quite different, especially after the rise of middle class, but this is going way too off track now.

...

Get a stick, and stick to it.

Are these in any particular order? I'm not usually the first on a person's list, even if I am otherwise mentioned. 😉

No, they weren't in any order... 🙂

The only people I ever get the chance to or actually talk to anymore on IM are Val and Ky.

I'm personally one of those "hands as weapons" guys.

I figure, if God gave me clubbing devices... why would I need to pick up something else?

If I can gouge out eyes, tear out throats, and punch people in places that make them convulse, than why would I want to put anything else that does more damage into my hands?

Of course, with my mentality, I would be one of the first killed on any midevil battlefield, stomping around in full plate armor, with nothing but my hands as weapons...

Of course, I am too slow to not wear armor... I can't be doing that "dodge" thing that people always do in movies. The one weapon that I would be okay with, and thats for me personally, would have to be the "Can Opener" (A name me and my friends call A shield with large blades coming off the shield, in A spike-like way, so it can be used to carve open armor... probably wouldn't work, but its awesome in A fantasy sense.)

put A "Can Opener" on each arm... and your the human quisanart! (sp?)
