Be careful with the rename

Well usually Winrar works really well with me. This time however it says the nikki2 file is corrupt and needs a cd to do something. I tried

I have never before had any problems with a split clip in this forum before but there is always a first time. This is also the first time I came across a file split and compressed with winzip. I got a nasty error message at first and could have used the WinRaR split files but I was determined to solve the problem. As with most problems the error was my (the users) fault. I only renamed the file extension and not the file name itself. You have to rename nikki2.zip to nikki.z02 for example I renamed it nikki2.z02 a small difference and hard to catch. I really appreciate Nimrods effort here as a Canadian I wouldn't have had access to The E! network to see this show. The file is a little out of sync but considering he is using Linux a system not known for it's ease of use especially with multimedia files. I'm very impressed and the clip is amazing I really envy Howard Stern how the hell does he get these beautiful girls to agree to this. Most ticklish girls I known hate being tickled in public and want as few people as possible knowing their secret weakness.

Here in Venezuela don't broadcast E! same at Canada. I'm really wondered why so much people don't get the things rightly, it's really easy, the key is be careful and try over and over until get all running ok.

I want you and BLONDLOVER to log in and check your PMs PRONTO. I used yousendit.com to upload the clips. You have seven days from receipt to use the download links before they are deleted off the server, so act soon (I included the MPGs and WMVs, just in case).

Glad to see You Send It came in handy, if it's possible, could you upload it again or maybe multiple times. Or better yet, how about somebody who DL'd from the You Send It thing start uploading it for people who haven't received it yet. I know I'll gladly host it several times after the bandwidth is used up to ensure everyone has seen it.

Have you updated your windows media player? Do your usual wmv files play flawlessly?
Have you right-clicked and saved the files to a folder? They don't stream from this site, they only play locally - that is from your pc.

See, Iluv2btickled? 😉
Wmv is not everybody's best solution.

Yes. I also have a Windows computer, but my TV card is in a Linux computer. I've been using open source tools to create the clips, but don't understand enough yet to produce a good quality clip. Any tips from anyone for using Linux and open source video tools would be appreciated.

My goal in creating the clip was to make something available to those who didn't see the episode on TV. I hope someone will come along and produce a better quality clip.

Thanks for making the WMV version. Since you started (I think) with the clip that I originally created , I know that there isn't much you could do to fix the audio/video sync problem.

Also, thanks for coming to my defense earlier. I've lurked here long enough to know that no matter what I do, there will always be complainers. I tried to head off some of this by mentioning the sound sync problem which many people probably wouldn't even have noticed on their own anyway.

Linux shows much promise, but Lindows has a greater appeal on me [now Linspire] - since I like to customize my system - but not to the extent a true Linux machine offers.

Maybe I'll break the piggy bank for a new OS. 😉


Personally, I just rushed a wmv version - without even listening to it: it was quite late, and I had no time or desire to pump the volume up [waking up the whole neighbourhood in the meanwhile... 😀 ].

To re-sync it, we could just fire up a prog like VideoMach and trick would be done.
It allows you to work on audio and video separately.
Just measure the audio lag, and insert/remove video frames accordingly. 🙂

I didn't even notice the sync problem, and I wanted to share a wmv version as soon as possible, so I didn't bother. 🙂

But it is feasible; next time. 🙂

I hate giving lectures, but splitting files is a necessary evil in many cases.

What you ask is not always feasible: compressing vids into WMV format is easy when starting clip is a radius avi or mpeg encoded video.
You only need Windows's movie maker - built-in since Win-ME.

WMV compression produces fairly small files, with acceptable detail loss - sometimes within 2 megs limit.


Real Media files, on the other hand, can be nasty customers.
Compressing or decoding them is tough, since Real Media is a proprietary codec, and next to nil tools can handle it.

Furthermore, they are relatively large and most *do* require splitting to fit the 2 megs cap enforced on TT.


Besides, both formats are not fully compatible with some other operating system: you are effectively closing out of the door whoever can't [or won't] install and mantain a fully updated Windows OS.


Also: I've tried posting something that could agree with everybody's computers. It simply doesn't happen: be it on user's part or system's fault, tech-wise nothing is bullet-proof.

Besides, Nimrod's been exceptionally kind to upload the same file in several formats: it was out of his time - free of charge - like good old Rocking used to do. 😉

You could at least PM him with your email, instead of getting angry at him - how are people supposed to send you something? 😉


EDIT:

I've slapped together a Wmv version of the original clips. These clips don't require external tools: just download and open them.

They might work, or maybe not; I am no techie - and no warranty is offered or implied in any way whatsoever. 😀

Hope they work; if not, well... sorry, I tried. 😉
