I was watching the news this morning... no cartoons on that I liked, and I overheard senator guy from Illinois with the name "Barack Obama" is going to run for the big boy chair in the White House.... Is it just me, or does "Obama" sound like a mash-up of "Osama" and "Bomb?" Won't that hurt his numbers? And could anyone really get used to saying "President Obama?" Now, I'm all for cultural diversity, I'm in no shape or form racist, and he raises good points, has a good game plan for being president, and wears a suit, but with a name like that, Hillary's got it in the bag. Just my opinion. Could be wrong.

The does seem like a supremely unfortunate name for anyone with high political apirations 😵

Well if our current President is any indication of the minde-state of the voters; unfortunately yes, his name could present a challange 😛

Well, current poll numbers show that many people actually like Barak Obama. His name probably won't have to big of an effect on the popular vote. What really matters anyway is the electoral vote. If he gets more electoral votes than say, Hilary clinton, he wins. Plus he has more youth than Former First Lady, Presently Senator Clinton, and everyone has already gotten used to Senator Obama.

We need a woman in the White House, plain and simple. Yeah, Hillary seems a bit on the "Queen Bitch-ish" side, but maybe that's what we need, no? Anyone except Bush will do, as a matter of fact. And at the risk of CIA showing up at my door to ass-rape me, no more shall be said about the prez.

I want to wait to hear what everyone's positions are on issues that are relevant!!!

Then I'll make an opinion...

Until then, I do not think that his last name is the issue...his middle name is Hussein...now, put that and his last name together...and a bunch of ignorant folk who don't know better will think the poor guy is some terrorist!!!

Oy...when will these kids ever learn???

The guy does get a lot of grief from his name. Aside from that, people are always messing up his name. People have said Osama, Alabama, Yo Yo Ma, Yo Mama, all kinds of stuff. Too bad too. The guy's pretty cool. I don't know if he's the best choice for President, but he's right up there.

He's a Senator from IL...Chicago area native. Did I believe either 6 years or 6 terms in the House and has served just 2 years in the Senate and has done next to nothing politically in the Senate. The big media push is because is he African-American (one parent white from the US, other originally from Ethiopa). He's probably the closest thing to a "dark horse" candidate (political term, NOT a racial slur, for a fairly unknown candidate, like Polk and Pierce were in the 1800's. Oh yeah, I forgot. US schools won't teach history correctly anymore so you may not have learned that...😉 ).

I feel sorry for him when the Clinton Political Campaign Smear team starts to carve him up like they do anyone who opposes a Clinton. And I can just see the drive-by media accusing people like me being racist for not wanting to vote for him, even though it's due to his POLITICS and not his skin tone.

Don't laugh...the press as already started saying it!

There is excitement surrounding his race, certainly, but in Obama's case I think race is largely incidental to the media hysteria surrounding him, which I think has more to do with his youthful demeanor, perceived energy, and undeniable charisma. He doesn't have much of a resume to back up the hype, but as kyhawkeye suggests, with opponents like Clinton's team and Karl Rove's vicious weapons of character destruction, maybe the less history a candidate has the better. I'm curious to see if his admitted drug use as a youth gets effectively exploited by his opponents.

He's such a golden boy right now I'm not sure he qualifies as a dark horse. Romney or Kucinich might better fit that bill.

I link Barak Obama has a higher chance of being selected over Hillary Clinton. So many have a positive opinion of Barak Obama - while so many have a negative opinion of Hillary Clinton.

I think on CNN or MSNBC or one of those "all news all the time" channels, one of the reporters or tickers accidently called him "Osama".

Actually, Ted Kennedy did it first, introducing him at some press conference/speech as "Barak Osama Obama." Rush Limabaugh uses Ted Kennedy's slip to refer to Sen. Obama, but more as a dig at "The Swimmer" and not as a dig at Obama. So the Clinton News Network or PMSNBS reporter may have been referring to one of those, or goofed it up on his/her own, since know how 'accurrate" they are on those networks...(removes tongue from cheek)

The CNN flub was actually in words printed on the screen, either in a crawl or in a tag on the screen identifying Obama as "Barack Osama." So it was a legitimately boneheaded screwup on CNN's part. Yet another dive into credibility-free irrelevance for that goofed-up network, and yet another reminder why cable TV may not be the best place to get one's news. (Apart from Comedy Central, obviously.)

American's have the same freedom of speech they always did it's just that Bush shithead tries to bully people into thinking it's a necessary fascist state because of "national security." That's bullshit. It's not and don't let him fool you. The newspapers and radios slam Bush shithead daily and you can still say what you want now as you did 15 years ago. If the CIA shows up at your door you don't owe them shit..tell 'em to fuck off! You didn't do anything to warrant that crap and you're an American citizen. Bush shoves people into not standing up for themselves but it's all a smokescreen. Fuck George Bush! The worst president in American history!!! Don't be fooled by Bush's innuendos and pushing. America is still free.

Don't know much about him, but politics aside, the odds are really stacked against him in this for being a minority AND really young. The name certainly don't help either. Because of those things already, he's gonna have to work extra hard and even if he does, I'll be really surprised if he wins. That'd be some groundbreaking shit though if he does pull it off. Him or Hillary would be fine with me though.

If Obama wins, American voters will be considered machist; if Hillary wins, they'll be considered racist!...😛 No, just kidding...

But how popular is Obama? I mean, many movies and series has shown african-american presidents, and he's considered an african-american, or so said the media down here. He should be popular... or am I wrong?

Being popular and winning the election are 2 different things. Case in point, George Bush.

Obama is the media darling of the moment. He'll fade in favor of Hillary. Don't be surprised if you see a Hillary/Obama (vs. Romney/Guliani) Ticket. The dems are suckers for that PC BS (i.e. PC for the sake of PC-ness 😵).

I have nothing against voting for a woman or black man for President. Show me someone I like and I will. I don't really care for either, so I guess I am going to have to wait a while longer. Hillary has that grating voice and smarmy better than you attitude. Obama is too propped up by the machine. He's a nobody one minute and presidential condender the next, no thank you.

"America is addicted to oil."- President George Bush

So long as this is true, and we're getting it from other countries that we're on shakey terms with, it won't matter if its Obama, Hilary, or Krusty the Clown whose running the show.

You cannot change the bloody, tribal culture of the people in the Middle East. They've been breeding for war and death for too long just to claim some land thats probably infertile anyway, or at least cursed by the blood thats been shed over it.

You cannot change their mentality, and we seemingly cannot break our oil fix.
