Advice that my father gave me in the spring of 1973. I was thinking of leaving graduate school and getting a job at a life insurance company as an actuary. (I had passed the first two of then ten actuarial exams at that time.) I was discouraged by the fierce competition in graduate school. My father told me to stay with my dream of getting a Ph.D. as long as that was what I really wanted. I am glad that I followed his advice.
What is one piece of advice that you are glad you did not follow?
I encountered racism (like everyone has) even in a family member or two when I was growing up and I always thought it was stupid...ironically the best friends I have now are black (and I am white).
