Ohio Christian school tells student to skip prom

No, the school has certain things it considers to be immoral. Students
are expected to refrain from those activities both inside and outside the
classroom. I'm willing to bet that it says so in the contract the kid signed.
Private school, especially private Baptist school, is very different from the
public school system.
I kind of doubt that the boy really exercised all that much choice in the school he attends. Certainly, he didn't have any legal choice in the matter - he attends where his parents decide he attends.

I think though that the point of the story is more about the kind and degree of control that a conservative religious school chooses to exercise over their students. Let it serve as a warning to other parents and students.

It's like being a boy scout or girl scout. You go by a code of ethics, whether
you're at a troop meeting, or at the mall with your friends. You can't choose
to be Mr. Moral at school, and then a different person away from school. Well,
you can, but you can't do it at a Baptist school.

Indeed... Actually practicing what you preach is what's expected of students, but oftentimes, politicians and religious leaders don't.

Oh, God, I can hear the distant sounds of my school song being sung and it's haunting me.

"You're part of the school from the day you begin it, you're part of the school for the rest of your life."

Frost said he thought he had handled the situation properly. Findlay requires students from other schools attending the prom to get a signature from their principal, which Frost did.

"I expected a short lecture about making the right decisions and not doing something stupid," Frost said. "I thought I would get his signature and that would be the end."

England acknowledged signing the form but warned Frost there would be consequences if he attended the dance. England then took the issue to a school committee made up of church members, who decided to threaten Frost with suspension.

What I don't get is that the principal pretty much signed the form to allow the student to attend another school's prom, but tells the kid "if you go, you'll get suspended." Why didn't the principal tell him when he brought the form in that he couldn't attend and just not sign that form.

I have to say that I went to a Christian school that was similar in their beliefs as this school, but when it came to other schools proms they did not control our choices. We only had to abide by the school's rules while we were on school property and on any field trips. This student should not be punish that severely if at all because while he is attending that school he was not on the school's property.
