WHAT? AR. does this mean I'm not the only one on the planet practiciing common, decent manners? Nice to know I'm not the only one trying to keep chivalry alive...
Why has it gone away?
Simple: In the 1960-70's, the "women's libbers" portrayed it as degfrading and demeanig, as if a woman couldn't do it herself, intead of interpreting it as giving honor to the lady. A servant honors the other person by helping them. But, I will amdint. may gents would abuse it as well. I still do things like hold openb teh door or pull out the chair for my fair lady as a sign of love and respect.
But, 'old fashioned guys' liek myself are a dying breed....oh well. Just another thing I am supposedly 'out of step' witht he rest of the world in. Soon you'll be telling me not to take her arm on a snowy day so she dosen't fall.....

Let the Hollywood Brother educate you on this. The problem is that if a guy does these little things like the Hollywood Brother does then most women thinks he is a dork or something. The person in question loses the tough guy image that most ladies want. What winds up happening is that if a gentleman suitor such as myself, goes out and is nice, the girl thinks he just wants some or is not interested. However if i were a monster, I would have women falling for the Hollywood Brother.
The man behind the Hollywood Brother really thinks it great that you apprecaite a person who is smart enough to appreciate and treat you right. The Hollywood Brother is one of those old time chilvary dudes but sometimes wonders what good it is to be like that when all it does it get you alone while a lady you may like is going out with a guy who treats her like crap.
All the Hollywood Brother knows is that he hopes you find someone to treat you like that. You seem to be a great person from the post of yours that the Hollywood Brother has read. The Hollywood Brother only regret is that he not there to open doors for you and treat you with the respect and emotion that you deserve.
In closing the Hollywood Brother do not want you to give up this idea of a man who treats a lady right. For as long as the Hollywood Brother is around, there will be someone out there to treat you right. Just never surrender your heart and you will get your reward someday. Do not be like the Hollywood Brother who sometimes questions if he ought to settle just so not to deal with being alone. Do not ever and the Hollywood Brother means ever settle like that. You will be very unhappy and that is a terrible thing.
The Hollywood Brother hopes he did not ramble to you too much but the Hollywood Brother is very passionate and sincere in the Hollywood Brother's beliefs and ethics and the Hollywood Brotehr guess he may have gotten a little deep into himself on this post in this great thread

I direct your attention to the threads in and about this board for fine examples of the soon deceased. Here we are, all of a like-kind mind on a given thing – namely, tickling – and we are, generally speaking, incapable of treating each other with the respect due as human beings. In the first pic the Hollywood Brother loves how small and cudlly the animal is and how dam cute it is. In the second pic, the eyes and smile trap the Hollywood Brother and make his heart skip a beat.
So as you can see the Hollywood brother is in a bind as the Hollywood brother do not know which pic he likes better brother

I always find it interesting when one says tht today and the future are worse off relative to the future. I guess it depends on what class you came from..but I see tons of improvements!! Sure chivlary is dying...but it's cousin "gender inequality" is dying as well. As Pleatherdyke said women are still paid $.75 on the male dollar... we have a long way too go... but it's far better than pre women's sufferage days when men paid for everthing/opened doors blah blah blah. I think chivlary should simply a persons personal style.and the lack of it does not indicate a lack of civility but the increasing presence of equality.

The point is well taken that the death of civility is not necessarily cause-and-effect related to the death of chivalry. In that I erred. Continuing in that same vein, neither can there be a cause-and-effect relationship between the death of chivalry and the flourishing of equality. The chivalrous code was not specifically how men treated women; rather it was how a person was to treat another (male or female) and how that person could expect to be treated in return. As such, chivalry was simply an ideology within the bounds of society, not the definition of it. Put another way; it was not the chivalrous code that caused inequality (or shared a common kindred), thus its demise would not effect an increasing presence of equality.
That both chivalry and civility are dying on a societal scale is unfortunate and a disturbing trend for our future. What good is equality when we treat each other like animals?
The idea that women make only 75% of men has, largely, been refuted. To be certain, it was truth at one time but that time has past. Its utterance still provokes a rancorous emotional response, however, which is a fundamental difference between discussion and diatribe. Unfortunately, there are those more interested in screeching diatribe and placement of blame than in intelligent discussion and cause analysis.
And I always find it interesting when one states that there is an increase in equality while minimizing another's point of view based upon the one's perception of another's class. This sort of perception does not herald an increased presence of equality.

Hello, Ja'Qalil, and welcome 🙂 I agree with your observation about a general lack of civility in public discourse, and I too think that it is sad. There is a time and a place for harshness, but only under fairly rare circumstances.
I grew up mostly in Thailand, where good manners are taught as a core value and are seen as an index of social desirability. I do my best to treat both men and women equally and courteously. (Some of my chat buddies find it notable that I even treat self-proclaimed "slaves" and "masters/mistresses" exactly alike, without special condescention to the sub nor special deference to the top.)
