One Hit Wonders.

Since it was so well-received, here's an encore. Grateful Dead's "Loser" smashed up with DOOM's "Vomit."

EDIT: This isn't the god damn mashup thread, lol! ^^^^ I'll keep this here just because it's great 😉 but here's a solid, apropos one-y for yez:

(i'm digging that song, Vanillaphant, hadn't heard that one)

Had you really never heard it?! It was a huge hit in Europe, so I just assumed it must have made a mark in the US, too - but obviously not! It's a weird song. But I like it. 🙂

Well, the music business has never been shy about using hyperbole when pushing their product. And the Rovers are Irishmen, some living in Canada. And they tour around the world. So it's possible they have had multiple hits in other countries and just one in the states. That's not uncommon in the music business.

True. According to Wikipedia, they had another big hit and a couple of minor ones in Canada. To be honest, I'd never even heard of them. And to be even more honest, I wish I hadn't still! lol (Sorry, milagros. 😛)

Hmm. Suddenly the Irish Rovers don't seem so bad. lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this constitute as a "One Hit Wonder".... But we know they deserve better than that, right?

Ok, I'm sorry but you did say correct you!!! lol. XTC is definitely not a one-hit wonder! "Senses Working Overtime". "Mayor of Simpleton". "Making Plans For Nigel", right off the top of my head. All were radio hits at the very least. "Mayor of Simpleton" and "King For A Day" were in heavy rotation both on MTV and on radio. I worked at Tower Records at that time, that album sold well.

One-hit wonder = flash in the pan, which XTC was most definitely not. Albums count!

But here's a couple.....
********

The Kingsmen: Louie, Louie

Every Mother's Son: Come On Down To My Boat, Baby

Ha, I hear you. Had to look up that tiny bit I posted, didn't care to dig much deeper. I vaguely remember that song, didn't make me want to run out the door and look for more.

Well then, I am corrected! I remember seeing the videos for Senses and for Simpleton as a kid on mtv. In fact, Oranges and Lemons was the first cassette I ever bought as a kid at about 11 years old. I recall trying to decide between that and English Settlement, based on the two songs that I was familiar with. I went with O&L because the album cover was more interesting! Probably the first album (tape) I ever bought. Still one of my favorites!

Didn't know any of the others were hits, but now that you mention it, I recall hearing Nigel was a hit, at least in the UK.

I love the cover of "Oranges & Lemons"! And wow, having to decide between those two (double) albums (both great).......what a dilemna! I would have chosen "Oranges and Lemons" too because of the cover......even though, like Aladdin's lamp......"English Settlement", the one with the lesser cover, is probably the better album (though, that's like splitting hairs!, lol!)

Two organ-based one-hit wonders & absolute rock and roll classics from 1965 and 1966. By 1967, this type of record would be totally wiped out and replaced by heavier and more psychedelic sounds like The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, The Velvet Underground, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, et al.....all bands who made their debut that year. (not to mention The Beatles releasing "Sgt. Pepper" that June, which shifted the focus from singles like these, to fully-conceived "song cycles" aka: albums, a major change in the paradigm of the music industry, and one that still pretty much remains in place....)

The Rivieras: California Sun

? & The Mysterians: 96 Tears
