You know, the war on terror is going along, and we know very little. But, things are happening, terrorists are being captured, and who knows how many plots were foiled. One day, I hope, we will find out, to appreciate teh work of teh government in protecting us. Yes, there will be misses, but what about the things that DIDN'T happen to us? (I will post a thread in the general discussion forum to continue this....)

Well, for a while, people have been complaining about this being a moderated forum, it's unfair, on and on. Well, I wish we'd see either how successful, or maybe how unfair (but I think it's successful) this has been. What have we missed? What was deleted before we ever saw it, or what was deleted before not too many people saw it? Who, or what group has been banned from here, if any? What were they peddling, what spam, what scams?

Basically, how good of a job have the moderators been doing? What would the place look like if they weren't here?

The what have we missed part may never seem as exciting as what we see, because we can only imagine. But, still. Maybe this will silence some of the critics. Probably not, but who knows. I think it would be a good idea for the members to knwo what comes at us and is stopped, so all the critics can fully appreciate the moderators. We praise them, but what do they REALLY accomplish? What battles have they fought behind the scenes, that we don't see, to keep this place the way it is?

Cool post, mabus, and I agree that sometimes we posters take moderators for granted. Thank you, Myriads, Scooby, Oblesklk, MaxSpeer, dvnc, Haltickling, Mistress Mia, Marauder, evilqueen, Dave2112, qjakal, and MTP Jeff (hope I haven't missed any) for keeping this forum flame-free! 😀

Thanks for the support, it's greatly appreciated by all of us.

It's nice to know that most people understand that we do not just arbitrarily remove posts. The level of sheer patience shown by my colleagues and our Fearless Leaders astounds even my Jedi calm at times. It's very easy to see an end result and complain about it, without knowing the whole story. Yes, it would be nice to discuss everything and have a truly Open Forum, but that just isn't realistic.

The betterment of the Forum and the community in general is at the base of every decision made.

Thanks again for the support. 😎

Interesting topic mabus. I for one am just glad that I don't have to sift through endless off topic posts and flames to find what I really want to see. When I got my first computer and found the alt.sex.fetish.tickling newsgroup, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. It didn't take long though for me to realize that I didn't need to check the group more than once a month or so because the majority of the posts were off topic. (Anyone remember the "I've got the Sheryl Crow nude pic" posts?) Now I tend to log on to this site several times a week because I know that there will always be new posts that deal with the subject I come here for, tickling!😀 I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the people who spend so much time sifting through the rubble so that I don't have to.🙂

I'm sure! More people are coming to appreciate the working of the forum and how much patience it requires to be a part of that. Thanks for the work you guys put in when you could be doing something infinitely more relaxing.🙂

Well

It pisses me off more than anything else, but hey, I understand why it's here. Nice work.

I agree...you mods do an awesome job of keeping things going around here. Whether people like it or not, a world of total anarchy isn't much fun. I like the fact that there are people looking out for our best interest as a whole, and not allowing in those that want to upset our peaceful vibe.

Thanks again guys! I'll send this one out to you... :grouphug:

Okay, I believe it's a real thread, 'cause someone finally disagrees... Props for clean honesty, Krokus.

Thanks for startin' this one, Mabus. When ya wonder what'd happen without moderation, check google's USENET archive for alt.sex.fetish.tickling and alt.multimedia.tk. There, you get a good clear example of how dominant personalities will shape a social environment. The same is true here. The mods "dominate" the forum, disallowing certain behaviors.

Doesn't stop arguing and debate. I just got arguments last week and this week, and hey, look, Krokus disagrees, flat out. Difference is, here, you have to do that whole 'adult' thing, and can't slack. No "you suck" posts, delineations about a guy's parents, etc.

It's not better or worse, really. It's different. When you want unmoderated, truly uncontrolled responses to a like post, go to a.m.t. It's still there. People still post to it. It's just not getting a fraction of the actual DISCUSSION that this place does.

It's a good thing here if you enjoy "livin' in town". Some folks will always yearn for "the wild west." For them, this place ain't ever gonna suit. It's too civilized here. Even a mod can't slam someone unreasonably, or against the rules, or they're removed from moderation. Happened already. Would happen again. Even mods aren't above the Tzar, and I've yet to see that man's irrational day.

My $0.02,

dvnc

Re: Well

Why anyone would oppose (proper) moderation of a public forum is beyond me (testing to see if Krokus responds) 😕

Aw, now that ain't nice!

'Sides, it's a question wit' an easy answer. Why wouldn't you want it? Answer - 'Cause you want things "your way". Whatever your way is, you want that, regardless of how imbalanced or unfair it's accused of being. Happens.

Some merely want the freedom to act like adults, and expect everyone to behave as such. Problem is that not everyone has the same social concepts and standards.

That folks want us to keep freely donating our time, while our host donates his hard-earned dough for this place, seem to be the major motivator. There ARE other options, like seeking another board, or goin' 'back to AMT. Wit' over 5000 of us here, though, it's tempting to stay and deal wit' havin' to be civil to one another, and all that.

Mind ya, that's my perspective...

Civil is fine, and very acceptable, agreeing to disagree, ...cool. But politically correct posts, only, is ridiculous.

CDFGA...

Only flames, spam, and stuff like that is banned, not politically incorrect posts 🙂

Politically incorrect? Have you been READING the political posts? *blink*

Seriously, as amk714, who stirs plenty in the political threads, has indicated, there's no ban on political disagreement. Flames and legally troublesome stuff are removed.

I agree that "politically correct" posts are ridiculous. The topic here, though, is possibility of flames unseen. Truth is, you don't see flames here for long, when they DO briefly appear. Wanna flame? USENET's still functioning, and there are countless groups in which tens to hundreds of people may read your sentiments. 20 or so many even respond, in an extreme case.

It's sorta satisfyin' to see that potentially 5000 people are registered to see what you write, though. It's fine to note that there's a 1000 or more that view some threads.

No, this place ain't perfect. They still let me moderate. Still, it ain't a bad frontier town, complete wit' moderators actin' on the behalf of the many. I like to think it's BECAUSE of the moderation that folks read here, post here, and feel comfortable with the place. If a body doesn't like the moderation concept, though, there ARE other places. We're just a group. We're not the only game in town, though. You're here VOLUNTARILY, and can always go where you're able.

I stir plenty?

I thought the only thing I stirred was my coffee 🙂

I won't even bother to answer that. You have not been around here long enough to understand my position.

actually i like it here

i enjoy the flame free environment. yes that's from moi, who has been "moderated" 3 times now, lol.
i would like to see some of the posts that were removed. like if there's a vault somewhere, that we could go in, and look around, and have a laugh at some blast from a year ago.
it seems like sucking up, but i too am happy for the work of the mods. RAH TEAM!

...I always thought it was a good idea that flames are not allowed
here, but how bout a forum where these flames could be viewed? So we can see just why they were considered flames..Might be funny..

Got Flame?

Um, we have that forum, it's called AMT. Every now and again I go for a visit, then when my head starts to ache I mosey on back here 😎

Now I am NOT picking on AMT, lots of cool folks hang out there. But that's where one can easily go to see a forum like this except with bile. Frankly, I love it that here people have to THINK before they post, and work to express themselves in an honest yet civil manner-the hallmark of maturity in my book. You shouldn't have to insult people and show us your liver and spleen to make yourself heard.

Yes, I haven't been a TMF member for very long. If any of your posts were deleted in the past, I'm sorry for that. But there must have been a good reason they were. Just my opinion, nothing personal (no need to reply or explain yourself) 🙂

Good lord, I'm defending Krokus

Dude, this is one thing that drives me buggy. Making a statement or observation involving others, then suggesting that the person not say anything in response cuts him or her off at the knees-though it *is* a good way to make sure you have final say 🙄

Just my opinion, nothing personal (no need to reply or explain yourself) :cool2:

I won't explain myself. But I will say one thing: Your absolutely right.

Bella, since Krokus only posts opinions and not explanations, I was only telling him he doesn't have to explain himself, not trying to have the final say or cutting him off. I WANT people to give reasons, that's why I've been replying to him so much! 🙂

If you want to reply, bella, fine, if not, that's cool, too! :cool2:

TMF Moderators are doing a great job!

Great idea, Mabus for starting this thread. The moderators keep things open and organize. Although we might have different ideas or opinions we all enjoy tickling!!!!!
