Sure the shaky "amateur" camera work was kinda aggravating, but DAMN, that was one good horror movie. Not quite Japanese good, mind you, but pretty damn good for an American release. The movie got the "scare" formula exactly right. Throughout the course of the film, it grounds the audience in reality, get's them comfortable with the characters and their surroundings, and then...ever so slowly...starts to twist things...starts to start turning the creepy dial up towards 11. Not all at once...but gradually...slowly...step by step...
What really creepy is that, as a ghost hunter myself, a lot of the activity that happens in the movie is activity that has either been captured on film or experienced by investigators.
Very very good. If you want to be scared and/or creeped the hell out, see this movie.
But don't take my word for it....
