Well,
I guess I'm not sure whether to say there are/are not a lot of Halo fans on this forum, but being a crazy fan myself, I have to say, the lineup for this game-movie is starting to look incredible!

First Universal & 20th Century Fox agreed to Produce, while Peter Jackson and WETA (the folks who brought us the Lord of the Rings) will be producing in studio. Add on top of that a screenplay by Alex Garland (28 days later, and The Beach), and it sounds like this movie could be quite something!

But history seems to have shown us how most game-movies end up, so perhaps we should just hold our breath on this one!?

Holy Megamoly Batman! This is one show I'll definitely catch!

omg yes! i friggin love halo, and this should be a real hit. this and the movie still in production, alice, should both turn out great. hopefully they'll have the same guy doing the voice for the master chief, he's pretty bad ass.

Damn yeah! Even I know halo! Its about time someone realized it could be a good movie! 😉

I'm glad they finally confirmed something for once! This movie has been in limbo for so long that I can't even remember the last time they told us something in stone.

Anyway there are still a lot of rumors flying around as to who now gets to play what. Apparently Vin Diesel is a top contender for the Master Chief, while Ed Harris is rumored to be in top place for the role of Commander Keyes (??? That probably wouldn't be my first choice!), and the top contender for the role of Sarge is apparently none other then Samuel J. himself!

Better not hold your breath for these though, the movie is scheduled for an '07 summer release.

Video Game movies are destined to fail, it's a law of life!

I pray that this or DOOM are an exception...especially since the Duke Nukem movie has yet to get the "ok".

i'm pretty sure this one is gonna turn out well. it's got a huge fan base, so they're gonna put alotta money in it i hope.

At least Jackson isn't going to direct Neon Genesis Evangelion (he stepped down from the project), sources say.

I'm not sure if this thread is to anounce Halo (a game I haven't played but know about), or if its more about Jackson. If its leaning more toward being about Jackson, then I'm assuming the news that he is to be the director is to be taken as good news.

My opinion? LOTR was successful, but I'm not going to believe anything he touches is gold just because it's him. I never give a director the benefit of any doubt because with all things factored into it, he's just one element among many and just one of the driving forces that make or break a film. If he can pull it off that will be great, but I'm not going to assume he can just because of his past works (not that anyone here is saying that). Directors get alot of credit far beyond what they do, sometimes. I'm not saying thats the case with Jackson or it has been (or will be), but they're often put on a pedistol just for the sake of being there. Its a bit pretensious, but then so is the entertainment business overall.

I hope what I've said doesn't take anything away from this thread, but thats how I feel about it.

Jackson directing shouldn't be a problem...

Like Dracula said, there are many contributing factors that make a movie good or bad, and directors do often take too much credit or blame for a movie's success or failure. Movies often have bad directors...and under some circumstances good actors can make up for the poor directing (not saying Jackson is a bad director by any means)

Now, on the other hand, if they cast Vin Diesel for the lead role in the movie (or any role, for that matter), it will be difficult for me to even give the movie a chance. Though Vin Diesel seems like a alright person in the interviews I've seen him in (and he's quite funny), I will never take him seriously as a actor...I think he and Paul Walker are two of the worst actors I have ever seen.

I do have high hopes for Doom though...hopefully I will not be let down...AGAIN!!!

i honestly hope they'll keep to the game and not show the Master Chief's face. have they shown what he looks like in Halo 2? i read the Halo novel, and it describes him. if they don't show the Master chief in person, Vin Diesel would be great, as he has the right voice for the Master chief.

i swear i hope doom goes well, i can tell by the previews they won't stick completey to the original story line of doom.

In the previews for Doom the game is already being misreprented from what I can tell. From what I've seen it shows experiments gone awry turning people into monsters that run loose on the installation. Actual fans of the game or anyone who has ever played any of the games in the series will have quickly noticed that the series is about demons from another dimension and a gate to the Mars installation was opened, giving them access.

The basic premise of the movie is the same as the games- elite group of soldiers go in to clean house and retake the installation.

The manner in which the story seems to be told however, just from the previews, is already incorrect. It seems they are portraying the monsters more as freaks and top secret science experiments rather than demons from hell.

While Johnson (the Rock) does "look" good in the role he's in, how much of this will come down to his acting ability, and will this even play a real part is what I want to know. The Doom novels can go indepth with the character personas, so there is reason to want to see something beyond shoot and kill.

The basic story already is unfaithful to the game series if what we're seeing are artificial/evolutionary monsters and not demons from elsewhere. Oh well. I didn't know they were making Doom into a movie to begin with, so its not like I was expecting it or even wanting it. We'll see what happens.

all I could tell from doom commercials was the Vin will have a chainsaw and wave it like a fan......cool.😛

I think I might actually wait for this to come for dvd. I can honestly say that for me, the presentation thus far is not appealing enough or even makes me think of the game. It seems like almost something totally different. The only thing that really caught my attention was the DOOM logo and the fact that the Rock is in it. That was instantly recognizable. Everything else...well, lets just say it would be easy to mistake it for something else. Like another ALIEN movie, where instead of Weaver you get Johnson.

I don't know..this so far just doesn't FEEL like Doom.

I never played the doom games; had it on my calculator once, 🙄, but other than that I've only heard of it. So, I think I'll watch, and give you my review.

It would be a shame if they just slapped the Doom liscence, name, and logo on a movie that does not live up to the standard. That happens too often and with the good games/animes, etc.

Remember the Wing Commander movie? That thing sucked major donkey nards. The series is great, but look what they did to it. 🙁

They would have been better off using the actors from the games for the roles! Hell, Mark Hamill is the ONLY Christopher Blair in my book. It should have stayed that way. Same for Admiral Tolwyn.

Yeah; I saw THAT!.....And they wouldn't give my money back! 😛

They should have done what they did with that Sci Fi movie, um, well, the movie made from the firefly series. They used the same actors as in the series, and they weren't sorry! 😀

The Kilrathi looked like overgrown evil hampters too. That didn't help out at all.

And the kilrathi dreadnaught (Prince Thrakath's command ship) made it's appearance as a mere battleship that didn't look anything like the actual ship. It sort of looked like a flying space turd. Whether or not this was meant to be that ship could be questioned as it could be explained as just another battleship, but it would have been better had it been Thrakath's ship, or that Thrakath even made an appearance.

Nothing about this movie was done right, save for the character names. And it's a wonder they did that right. 😛

That seriously made me burst out laughing!

I never knew there was a Wing Commander movie, probably never made it here.

However, from your review of it, I suppose I didn't miss much. 😀

I always thought that for those game series that span multiple chapters, a movie about them would have to do the same.

Now that game movies are all the rage (Doom, Halo, Tomb Raider, Blood Rayne), I'm hoping they'll make Homeworld into a movie too! The story is too powerful not to! 🙂

that movie was from an actual show? i thought the movie was ok, the overgrown hampster aliens was a downer, though.

Yeah, you didn't miss much if you know (and you apparently do) what to expect from the Wing Commander series. It just wasn't done justice. They took the label, the brand, the series and just rewrote it and pandered it out.

I hope they don't do this with Doom, and they SURE AS HELL had better not do this to Neon Genesis Evangelion when it finally arrives. They're alreading screwing around with it. Asuka Langley's new name (at least for now) is Kate Rose, and Rei (in the concept sketches) looks like an albino girl with black hair.

Peter Jackson and Weta were/are handling this, and rumors say he will not personally direct the movie, and I should hope not if this kind of thing is done to bastardize this great, award winning anime series.

See, this is the problem with Jackson doing it-

He is a european. And while his ethnicity has nothing to do with it, his mentality, experience, and pop culture does. Evangelion speaks volumes, but it often does it in very subtle and philosophical ways, ways that Peter Jackson may not understand or catch or use.

My worry is him taking an all-action approach to the project, and focusing more on the evas themselves and pandering them as some giant robot (which they certainly are not). Evangelion is a very unique mix of eastern, western and other philosophies, religions, and ideals, and for him to take any single approach and rewrite what Evangelion is based on that or what he thinks will sell will lead to a failure in the eyes of fans.

Actually, I have the solution- Get Mr. Ano himself to direct this. He created the series, he knows the plot, characters, and nuances, and everything else better than anyone. He directed the Eva movies, so theres no reason why he couldn't direct the live action movie.

The only good thing about this live action movie that I've seen is the faithfulness to the Eva unit designs. They're pretty cool, but so much rides on the right director telling the story the right way. I don't expect it to be perfect, and I know no other otaku of the show does either, but this anime is perhaps the epitome, the apex of anime as it is in this age. It has won the most awards for an anime, and it would be a horrible bastardization if the very essential parts of the series are not done justice. Even something as delicate as who they choose to play these roles is very important.

I would like to believe these people viewed the anime itself and watched it as part of their learning about it and took/are taking, every opportunity to do it right. This is just as important for the actors (though they haven't been selected yet). Part of preparing for a role is knowing your character. They have tons of footage to look at, and plenty of time to become the character.

Damn, I just hope they do this right. Evangelion is bigger in the anime world than Halo or Doom is in the video game world, quite frankily, and as one of the leading representives of japanese animation, its important they do everything they can to give it the homage, respect, and success it deserves.

No. Wing Commander is a live-action PC/video game. It plays like a flight combat simulator, and it's also a live-action movie where you can choose what you say at key points to different characters, and you can make important decisions, all of which will effect the outcome of the game. The plot branches out into different scenarios that are dependant on your success or failure in the missions. If you fail a mission, its not game over (excluding certain missions), but it effects what the next mission will be like, just like a real war. To get the best movie sequences and the best ending you have to win a majority of the missions. How the games end though, are, again, also influenced by your personal decisions and path choices.

The series is pretty revolutionary.

The cast of Wing Commander consists of actual movie actors. Mark Hamill made the series popular by continually reprising his role as Col. Christopher Blair (the person you control and play as), the main character, for all but the final installment in the series. In the final installement, you play a rookie pilot, but Hamil is there once again as a supporting character. He's now a Commodore, and is still an important part of the series.

You know Mark Hamill better as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, the voice of the Joker in animated Batman series, and his other voice talent roles.

vidoe game movies dont=box office dollars

think back to

street fighter the movie
double dragon the movie
wing commandar(makes farting noise) The move cut scens in the pc version was ubah but the movie sucked ass
Doom the movie, the man character never spoke, why speak now

Video game movies are either the programmers way of saying, im working way too hard on this game, i should be getting mo' money fo dis. Second, its a way of cashing in a.k.a milking a popular series(i.e final fantay the spirits within)

Also, it should be noted the only exception to one of the above rules is final fantasy advent children, thats the cgi movie sequel to ff7.

I love peter jackson and i hope this halo movie does well but just cause bungie makes cool cut scenes doesnt mean i want to watch one for an hour an half or two or whatever time the movie plays

Conclusion, video game movies are bad. I wait to see them on hbo, starz,or cinemax. ^^ thank you.
