Peter Jackson to produce Halo Movie!

I thought tomb raider wasn't too bad. The first movie got the style quite right but I felt it sufferred in terms of plot. The second one preserved the style but was more boring than the first.

As for Wing Commander, playing the game is already like playing a movie. I loved it because it did really well to put you in the shoes of Christopher Blair and the whole universe of the war with the Kilrathi. I always felt sad to lose Wingmen and would always replay the mission to try to prevent it, only to find out that I HAD to lose him/her because it's part of the script LOL

all this talk has got me itching to buy wing commander the game. what kind of game is it?

Oh you won't regret it! But to get the complete story you'll have to play Wing Commander 1-4 (DOS era) and Wing Commander Prophecy (5th chapter).

It is a space flight simulator, where you are a pilot (Christopher Blair in Wing Commander 1-4 and Lance R. Casey in Wing Commander Prophecy) of the Terran Confederation. As the story unfolds, you go on various missions and meet various people and encounter various events.

The plots in Wing Commander never fail to get me totally immersed. So on my end I highly recommend it to anyone!

Yeah, some of them are plot devices to forward the story. Like what happens to the Behemoth. I succeeded in every mission but some things happen and theres nothing you can do about it.

....I just explained. And Sy did again.

Its a sci-fi combat flight simulator, and it's not a single game. There are 5 installements (five games):

Wing Commander

Wing Commander II

Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger

Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom

Wing Commander: Prophecy

Wing Commander (the original) was made for PC a long time ago. This isn't a new series by any means. Its been around since the early 90s.

The game was then made for the SNES and later for the Sega CD.

I'm not sure which systems II was made for, but they've all been on PC.

You can, if you're lucky, find III and IV on Playstation (I have III and IV on playstation).

The final installement, Prophecy, was for PC only. You could probably find this one fairly easy.

The first two would probably be the hardest to find, though, and while III and IV are no longer in circulation, you could probably find them.

Ah. Halo. There's just something about emptying SMG bullets into someone's head that makes you go "Ohhhhh"

And what's better...you can then walk up and beat them in the face with your gun, while letting out a war cry, then run around laughing. That is, before you get sniped out.

I'm an avid Halo 2 fan and I also play on Xbox Live. Only a level 26, but meh. Whatcha gunna do? I probably would be higher if I played more since I can beat all my level 30-32 friends.

As far as Jackson goes, while I don't have any huge leap of faith, it's nice to know we at least have a competent director. Since he's also a huge halo fan (he's proclaimed himself to be), we can probably expect him to preserve what the rest of us fans would like to see preserved. Besides, Bungie has delcared already that it will have to go as they say, and that nothing will be changed from the game. I have high hopes for the Halo movie of course, and I will most definately see it, along with my friends who also play Halo.

No he isn't, he's from New Zealand. Sorry to be funny about it, but I thought everyone knew. 🙂

I think he did marvellous things with LOTR, and his early stuff (Bad Taste, Braindead, Meet the Feebles) was great. Even though he's only producing Halo, I think it should still be good.

It won't be Wallace and Gromit, but it'll be good. 😉

Sorry I haven't replied or gotten involved in this discussion lately, work has been...well...work. Hectic as usual.

Sure did have a good chuckle at some of the reviews that you guys have given to many of the past video-game movies! (You guys sure know how to hit the nail on the head for each one!) Maybe I should have started a video-game-movie discussion thread instead... heh

Anyway I can't say I'm a huge fan of the Wing Commander series, although that seems to have helped me somewhat when I watched the actual movie. Ignorance was bliss I guess. But this Evangelion title that you mention Dracula; it sure does sound interesting. As it is most of my friends are into the Anime/Manga craze, so they sort of have me hooked on a few series. Started with the movie "Princes Monanoke" (spelling that right?) and then went on to Naruto (not sure about that spelling either!)

But I definetely agree, simply having Peter Jackson as producer by no means ensures the Halo-Movie's success. But it sure does make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside all the same! 😀

If you're a Jackson fan I suppose one would know that. Its news to me. Either way, what I said still applies. I haven't seen any evidence or nuance in any of his films to suggest that he could handle Evangelion properly or approach it with the right mind. But since Evangelion isn't of any concern to you it seems, I suppose it doesn't matter, and what you're saying is otherwise true...thus far.

You should definitely give Evangelion a try. I own the series dvd collection box set and the movies, and I'm really looking forward to the live-action movie.

Unlike alot of people though, when I heard that he'd be directing it, or was going to direct it, I had mixed feelings. I still say Mr. Ano, the creator, should direct it. He's the best possible choice, and he can utlimately ensure that his characters and story are represented as they are, not as how Jackson or anyone else decides to interprete them to suit a fade, or whatever.

The character Rei Ayanami could easily be turned into a goth-type character even though she's nothing like that. I worry especially how they're going to handle Asuka Langley and Commander Gendo Ikari. These two have to be down right for them to have any credibility.

There are so many more nuances and layers to Evangelion, an anime, than there were to Lord of the Rings, a movie, IMHO. So its a pretty big thing.

As for the anime itself, be patient with it, thats my advice. At first it may bore you because nothing big seems to be happening. Everyone I recommend the series to I say that in order to fully understand and appriciate the series, you have to open yourself up to it and be willing to take the time to learn it and evaluate it before you can truely get the most out of it.

At first glance it appears to be nothing more than a giant robot show, but theres so much more to it. Ano actually got death threats when he wasn't going to create a movie to finish the series, and by popular demand he did do it which made the tv series ending an alternate ending.

You'll almost definitely have to watch the series through twice or more in order to understand some things and be able to read between the lines, and even then you'll probably still have questions. If you're not into theology at all though, it may not mean as much to you, since a great portion of the hidden and apparent nuances and themes are religious and theological in nature. And if you don't understand them to begin with (being they're not going to explain anything) then it all may just go over your head.

If all else fails, it's still one of the better animes out there and its still enjoyable at face value, if nothing more.

good news:

as mention in a thread i made, doom came out as a really good movie, i loved it. maybe this is a turning point for video game movies.

sad news for all you DOA fans: their making a movie of it, but it looks to be purely japanese made, and more than likely crappier than mortal kombat movies 1 and 2 combined.

Jackson claims to be a Halo fan, but I think Bungie should make him prove it. Let him play against some folks online and tape it... Then we all can see if he knows what he's doing. If he's about average or better, I'd say green-light it. But if he picks up the X-Box controller and tries to use it upside down or something, I'd say can him on the spot.

...Also, I think they should rip the soundtrack straight from the game. Its got the second best music I've ever heard in an X-Box game. (The #1 X-Box soundtrack, IMO, goes to Red Dead Revolver, just in case you were wondering... 😉 )

The Mortal Kombat movies...*snort*

Those were so bad that they were good.

They already have a Halo movie. It's called Red Vs Blue. Ok, so it's not a movie but my point still stands. You're not going to do any better than that folks.

Whoever directs the movie is probably gonna screw it up... if they want to make a movie out of this, they should just get a bunch of fans of the game and let them write a story line and a plot and then direct it, they are bound to do a better job than any hollywood bigshot, they always find a way to fuck this stories up...
But I'm not to worried about this halo movie, I'll have time for that later, right now, what really worries me is the Silent Hill movie, after watching what they did to Resident Evil(and I don't even want to mention that piece of s&¿t Alone in the Dark movie) I prayed they would leave the poor videogames alone... but I guess it was to much to ask...

Well, I'd say Shenmue II has better music, but technically that SHOULD be a Dreamcast game, shouldn't it? Anyway, I think they should change some things around to better suit a movie soundtrack, but preserve the essence of the basic Halo score. It's damn good.

Halo deserves the movie treatment; both the first and second games had incredible stories and the Master Chief is simply one of the coolest game characters in history.

I'll be the first in line to see this film.

i just downloaded the red dead revolver theme, and i love it too. was it a good game? i was thinking of buying it sometime.

It was pretty good, I thought... Sort of like a Western GTA without the whole "freedom to roam around town and do what you want" thing. The controls are intuitive (expecially if you like the Splinter Cell games), the gameplay is fast and fun, the graphics are pretty good, and the whole western theme is really well done. It can be had for less than $20 nowadays, so I'd give it a shot. 🙂

god i hope this movie turns out great since this is one of the best games ever.

Well, there is a live-action Halo battle up on Xbox Live and Youtube. Look up Halo Landfall.

I pray this film won't be like the DOOM movie or Hitman... they really didn't do the games any justice. >_>

yeah, they butchered some of my most favorite games into movies.

resident evil, bloodrayne, house of the dead, doom. i'd be pissed if they butcher the best game, halo.

The only way HALO will work as a movie, IMO, is if Bungie has a say in it, like Square Enix had a say in FF7 Advent Children.

I'll go to see Halo if and when it comes out but, like the collective, I'm gonna be skeptical given the track record of video game turned movies... especially since in the list of movies previously stated, we seem to be forgetting the progenitor of this skepticism: Super Mario Brothers.
