Ok guys, with a quarter of the season under our belts who do you think is going to the Super Bowl? Early season picks are a bitch, so this should searate the men from the boys and women from the girls...
Make your picks here and I'll save this thread until the end of the season and see if anyone actually hits it.
So here's how it goes, pick two teams from the AFC and two from the NFC, the teams you think will play in thier respective championship games. Then pick the two you thibnk will play in the Super Bowl. Like I said, early season picks are hard...injuries, schedule, choking...all these things could make your 4-0 team miss the playoffs or your 1-3 team actually make the Super Bowl.
Here's mine to start things off:
I'd love to pick the teams I like, but I know I have to go with the ones that have the best shot even if they lose a key atarter or two. Also, you gotta count coaching, strength of schedule and all of those other X Factors. I'm gonna say....
AFC Championship game: Baltimore vs. New England
NFC Championship Game: Seattle vs. Atlanta
Super Bowl: Baltimore vs. Seattle
Yeah, I know....but those are my picks. Believe me, I'd love to pick Cincy, New Orleans, Chicago, Indy...but you gotta look ahead. I love Cincy (and they could make the championship game), but I don't think thier run defense is going to hold up. Indy chokes in the playoffs, that's what they do. The Bears are going to come down to Earth, but I almost picked them to go to the big game as well. I just think the better teams are going to expose thier offensive chinks. New Orleans looks good, and I will go out on a limb and predict they will make the playoffs, but lack of experience will make them a next-year team.
I just think New England is getting it all together, and injuries have never bothered them. Plus, they've still got the "destiny" thing going, trying to match Pittsburgh's "4 in 6 years". They may not be the defending champs, but they are the league's reigning dynasty. As long as you've got Brady, you've got a shot. Plus, they've got a phenomenal rookie running back to compliment Corey Dillon. Seattle hasn't skipped a beat and they have more experience than last year...plus Deion Branch. Baltimore is more of a gut feeling/destiny sort of thing. The defense is awesome, and McNair looks more comfortable and better than he has in years. They've got the one defense that I think can give Tom Brady nightmares. Pretty much the same with Atlanta. Without a cavalcade of stars (besides Vick), they've got a lot of firepower and a quiet but surprising defense.
That all being said, I'll probably kick myself for these picks later, but who wants to jump on a bandwagon now, eh?
It's easy to pick the teams you want to go, but this is who I think will.
Post now and we'll revisit this in February!
