Planning the next evening of food and drink in New York City

I'd like to propose that we set up another evening of food and drink at Jack's in Manhattan, and do it on a Tuesday or Wednesday night, as I noted earlier I would try to do. This way, those for whom Fridays and Saturdays are bad can get in on the action, and I'm all in favor of keeping on doing this and varying the time of week so it will be accessible. And be assured, all we do at these get-togethers is converse, on subjects including but not limited to tickling. No structure, no formalities, no tickle-play (we'd get bounced out fast if we started tickling at this restaurant).

Here are the dates I want to suggest as possibilities.

Tuesday, June 3
Wednesday, June 4
Tuesday, June 10

I'm particularly hoping to hear from those who couldn't make it last time. How does each of these dates sound?

And is Jack's Restaurant still okay? It's a place where the full entrees are expensive, but you can get an appetizer for $10 or less.
 
As I noted before, Night and I would probably be unable to make a mid-week gathering. (Well, I would, but she wouldn't, and who wants to see just me?) So barring unforeseen circumstances, such as Night being posted back to New York during the week, I don't think we could do any of those dates.
 
Either of these would be good for me:

Wednesday, June 4
Tuesday, June 10

But you should give priority in your planning to those who could not attend last time.
 
The only date that works for me is Tuesday, June 3. Wednesdays are always bad for me.

I hope this second get-together can happen. 🙂

Meanwhile, we're still waiting to hear more definitively from the people who can't do Fridays and Saturdays. Are you folks still out there? A midweek date is only worthwhile if there's somebody whom it actually benefits. Maybe we should look into the later part of June. Does that work better for you?

Okay...here's where my thinking is at now...

I'm not sure if the three dates that I posted above are going to end up being the best ones to choose from, but something's missing here. At least one of the people for whom Fridays are bad and midweek is better should be posting in this thread, or else we'll be better off sticking with Fridays. So, would somebody in that specific category please speak up? Everybody else is welcome to post too, but we need somebody who needs a midweek date to be one of the ones fairly committed in order for a midweek date to be worthwhile. And one is enough, since others will most likely follow, but at the present moment I'm only hearing from the people who came out on a recent Friday, and if that's all we've got then we might as well pick another Friday.

So...again...would somebody who actually needs a midweek date please join us in the planning here?
 
Wednesday 6/4 is better for me too. Should be interesting 🙂

P.S. However, if a Friday is best for everyone, I'll catch the next one...if you do one in July I will definitely come as DH is travelling and it'll be easier for me. Looking forward in either case.
 
And, everybody: The dates I posted above may or may not really work. What I want to do now is have some E-mail correspondance with the people who didn't make it last time and can't do Fridays, plus make sure the women aren't too badly outnumbered, then float out a few more dates. So, others who are in the non-Friday category are asked to please E-mail me so we can do a little caucusing. In addition, let's plan on another Friday soon.

I'm actually going to do a round of E-mailing now, and then float a whole new set of dates to discuss. So, people who can't do Fridays are still asked to E-mail me so that I can have this little conspiratorial caucus with them. Midas: You've got mail.
 
So everyone knows, plans are still moving ahead. I'm conferring now with several people by E-mail. The night we end up with may be in July, because some people's availability has changed, and I want this next get-together to accommodate the people we didn't see last time, plus have some gender-balance so that more women will feel comfortable joining in. So, lurkers are still invited to E-mail me at [email protected], and everybody should keep checking here.
 
Okay...we're right around the corner from having a date to post.

I'm going to post one date, which will already have the concurrence of the people I'm conspiring with behind the scenes, and then see who can join us. For those who can't make this one...you'll be part of the conspiratorial cabal that plans the next evening out.

Okay...here it is...

Tuesday, July 8, at 7:30 p.m.

I have confirmations from Giggles, StacyShippen, and Midas. It also looks probable that a guy who E-mailed me, and his girlfriend, will be there, making for three women and three men so far.

So, how about the rest of you, including those whom we saw last time around? Can you make it? As I said above, if this date isn't good for you, you can be one of the ones who plan the date of the next one.

Now, about choice of restaurant. The last two times we did this, we went to Jack's, at 147 W. 40th St. The situation at Jack's is that the full-fledged entrees are a bit expensive, but it's possible to have a caesar salad for about $10, and a chicken caesar salad for just a little over. I believe they have burgers in that range, too. Also, especially on a weeknight, they're not going to mind that some order food while others just order drinks. Jack's has the virtue of being a short walk from Penn Station. It's a slightly longer walk (or bus/shuttle ride) from Grand Central Station, but even that is manageable. I like Jack's, but now that I've completed the conspiracy to set the date, I won't object to somebody else starting an insurgency to pick the place, but otherwise I'll assume everybody wants to come to Jack's. Wherever we are, there'll be a long table reserved as Work In Progress, so they can think we're a writers' circle.

Hey, everybody, just to reaffirm, we're meeting for food and drinks next Tuesday, July 8, at 7:30 at Jack's Restaurant, 147 W. 40th St., between 7th Ave. and Broadway, in New York City.

To all people who have confirmed this with me by E-mail, or here on the board, it's assumed you'll still be there if you haven't let me know otherwise. When you get to the restaurant, you can ask the hostess for the "Work In Progress" reservation.

Please let me know if any conflict will keep you away; I'm definitely planning to be there that night, regardless. I notice that funny852 is setting up a home tickle party in central New Jersey during the same part of the week, and Tuesday night is also the season premiere of that heinous show "Big Brother," where this year they've added in the new twist of having ex-romantic couples reunited by surprise in that God-awful house. Please let me know if you need to stay home and watch this car crash.

(Actually, that show is a fascinating study in S&M gone awry in itself. Being one of the current crop of hamsters is like being tied to a bed for a tickling and getting a whipping instead.)

Okay, here's an update.

The number of people coming has dwindled, and the male-female ratio has gotten to be not-so-good, so I'd love it if some more local ladies would materialize so that the men don't dominate. (However, all the men should still feel encouraged to come.)

Giggles can't make it; something unexpectedly came up. The couple from New Jersey who had E-mailed me turn out to be unavailable for that night as well. Here's whom we do have now, including those who plan to sit and stay, and those who are contemplating making passing cameo appearances:

It went well, though there were only four of us. Sorry we didn't get to see the others this time around. Let's get together again, in early September at the latest.
 
It did go well indeed, and Stacy can testify that nothing untoward happens to women who attend these munches.
 
First time muncher, hopefully not last!

It was nice to meet everyone tonight and I had a great time. If any other ladies are gun-shy about attending these munches, I can testify that it was a very comfortable way to meet fellow 'philes.

Looking forward to the next one, and hope to meet some of the TMF ladies too!
