Playstation 3 or X-Box 360?

I searched a little online, and found something on IGN. Now, please note, the FOLLOWING list is copy-pasted from IGN.com; I didnt write it, and I'm not trying to offend X-box fans. The following list is why IGN "experts" believe you would be better of with PS3:

Reason #10: Xbox 360 Doesn't Have a Killer App
360's launch lineup is admirable; there are 18 games and five first-person shooters. It can even be argued that the 360's overall average quality of titles is greater than that of previous systems. And yet not a single game is Killer App worthy? Where's the Halo? Where's the Mario? Where's the Soul Calibur? Where's the frickin' interest?

It's true, though. PS2 launched with a sorry lot of games and PSOne featured a similarly disgraceful lineup, but with the advent of PS3, Microsoft may have wished it more heavily emphasized one game its new console could forever be known for. This is because PS3 has the Metal Gear potential, Warhawk, Tekken, I-8, Gran Turismo, Killzone, and a dozen other high profile games that may hit day one to put a smiling face to the splendid PlayStation name. And when you can associate Dante with PS3, will anything else matter?

Reason #9: Dual-Screen and 1080p Support
1080p! Sweet Marie! Even if most televisions don't support it, why limit yourself to interlaced images when you can experience the glory of 1080 progressive? Support is for the weak! PS3 is forward looking, if anything. This means when you invest in the ultimate display technology however many years down the road, PS3 will make good on your purchase by outputting the absolute best image available on the market. And according to boastful Sony reps, we'll see games running at 120fps, too.

The Dual-Screen support also adds some interesting 3D potential. Layering images is a great way to fake depth. But if Killzone in full 3D isn't your cup of tea, maybe panoramic F1 racing will be? The option is certainly there. If the next Ace Combat doesn't feature dual screen-in cockpit support, we know it at least could have if it wanted to. Boo-yah, 360. Where your 720p now?

Reason #8: Hefty Expandability / Connectivity Options
Have expansion, will travel. The best way to maximize a console's lifespan is by lining it with a thousand ports and interfaces of every type. In this way PS3 has expandability written all over it. Compact Flash, SD Card, Memory Stick, Blue Tooth, USB 2.0... If Sony ever wants to add-on, it need not limit itself to one standard. And if you ever want to jam something into your PS3, chances are you'll be able to, assuming it's not toast.

Moreover, PS3 will also be intimately familiar with the PSP, meaning cross-platform associations will be all over the place. Expect PS3 games to take full advantage of the little PlayStation Portable by offering unlockable content and new multiplayer possibilities. What if a PSP player could control Otacon's droid in the next MGS? Whoops!

Reason #7: You Can Still Pre-Order
It seems to happen during every system launch, but nobody ever learns their lesson. In the rush to be the first on the block to own a brand new console, mobs of people invade their local retailers while forming lines larger than what you'd see during Fourth of July weekend at Disneyland. It gets even worse once you're inside the store -- as people hurry to the videogame section eager to snatch up whatever overpriced bundle pack they can, so that the managers who decided to throw the promotion together can milk every last penny out of your paper route.

This can be avoided, however, if you just plunk down fifty or so bucks a few months ahead of time. All you have to do in this scenario is walk right into your retailer of choice, pay of the remainder of the balance and go home with a smile on your face. With a release date of just under a year away, the PS3 still lets you do this. The Xbox 360, on the other hand, does not.

Reason #6: Seven-Player Wireless Support
While being able to play with six of your buddies offline in addition to playing with a single system will only be appealing for a small number of genres, it can be especially important for sports games in particular. Being able to populate an NBA or NHL team entirely with human players is something that isn't possible on any system outside of the PlayStation line, and the PS3 will keep with this trend.

If you've ever played through a season of your favorite sports game with each of your buddies taking control of a single player for the season, you know how rewarding and fun this sort of setup can be. Again, it's only possible on a Sony system, and in the next-generation the only place to find multiplayer support of this kind will be on the PlayStation 3.

Reason #5: The HD IP Camera
The EyeToy is one of the all-time most successful peripherals released for a console for a number of reasons -- the biggest being that it works phenomenally well in its simplicity. The PlayStation 3 will see the release of the HD IP camera, which we'll assume will be called the EyeToy 2, or at least something that sounds a little more consumer-friendly.

The camera features a native HD resolution, allowing you to transmit crystal-clear images to the PS3 for online play and more. And with the increased resolution and the PS3's processing power, the camera will allow for even more advanced, yet natural, input with the system. Take that, Microsoft and Nintendo! Plus, being that it's IP-based, the camera's functionality ties directly into Internet use, allowing you to transmit feeds over the Intarweb with ease.

Reason #4: Full Backwards Compatibility
360 will let you play Halo and whatever other games Microsoft chooses to eventually support, but Sony has the PSOne and PS2 library covered, save for a few minor exceptions. Imagine booting up Tobal No. 1 just because you feel like it or taking on Shattered Soldier because you haven't gotten your ass kicked enough lately. That's what PS3 can do for you.

The coolest part is that PS3 may also be able to enhance the older games. Much in the same way PS2 improved PSOne games with better texture filters and enhanced load times, we expect PS3 games to add even better texture filtering, quicker loads, full scene anti-aliasing graphics and goodness knows what else.

Reason #3: Stronger Japanese Developer Support
One of the PlayStation 2's most powerful allies in the current-gen console wars was its strong relationship with fan favorite Japanese developers. Square Enix, Konami, Capcom, Bandai, Atlus, Nippon Ichi, and Namco (among others) each offered unique content for Sony's system that you weren't going to find anywhere else. Tekken, Final Fantasy, Ace Combat, Devil May Cry, and a host of other games are just a few examples of this successful relationship... and none of them ever came out for the Xbox.

More importantly, though, the companies above supported the PS2 more heavily than they did other systems as a general rule -- and when you consider that all of the above names have already signed on for one or more projects in the first year of PlayStation 3 alone, that support is obviously going to continue. In fact, nearly 100 games were already announced by Japanese studios at or around this year's Tokyo Game Show -- which exponentially more than the confirmed Japanese titles available for the 360. And let us not forget that Sony's own internal Japanese studio isn't too bad itself.

Reason #2: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Remember when we said that the Xbox 360 doesn't have a killer app yet? Well the PlayStation 3's Metal Gear Solid 4 is definitely a killer app. Game creator Hideo Kojima has shown time and time again that he knows how to craft an excellent videogame, and after witnessing the impressive real-time demonstration of Guns of the Patriots (and its accompanying trailer) at TGS this past September, we're already convinced that the PS3 will be capable of some amazing things. A great pedigree plus great technology? Sounds good to us!

Reason #1: The Blu-ray Player
Sony and Company's next-generation disc format has yet to see the light of day in its final form, but the pure technology behind the format is immensely promising from both a gaming and general entertainment standpoint. We're talking 50GB+ of storage space here, more than 5x the space than the 360's DVD format can muster.

More storage space means more room for content which helps widen the possibilities of the PS3's power. Who needs a next-gen system if you run out of content space on your media (and keep in mind, Microsoft has no plans to incorporate HD-DVD or anything like it)? Blu-ray's transfer rate is also quite quick, and though the PS3's actual drive speed hasn't yet been announced, speedy load times should be on the horizon. And with all of the studio support that the Blu-ray Disc Association has garnered, it's sure to be one hell of a next-gen home video format. In short, the PlayStation 3 will have the most advanced storage medium of any game system on the planet.

This info if from http://ps3.ign.com/articles/668/668446p1.html

Anyone got an opinion?

EDIT: To the left, PS3, to the right, xbox 360.

Another article i found on ps3 cause you forgot the main thing 😉 it's speed, much more effective than any "normal" computer, making it worth buyable for a gamer.

"He said that the computers are made of cells, each one containing a CPU, which will probably be a PowerPC, and eight APUs (vectorial processors) each with 128K of memory.

It will run at 4GHz, producing a not inconsiderable 256Gflops, with the cells connected to the central 64MB memory through a switched 1024 bit bus.

It's still not clear how many of these "cells" will be used in the Playstation3, but Sony reckoned some time ago it could be as many as one teraflop, probably making it a four cell architecture.

Optical links – perhaps even FireWire optical links – could be used to share computing power."

Top 10 Reasons to Buy an Xbox 360
The next generation has arrived and the clans must be united. Here's why you should jump in now.

"Help me. For Christ's sake, help yourselves. If we join, we can win. If we win, well then we'll have what none of us has ever had before: a country of our own. Unite the clans! Unite them!" -- William Wallace, Braveheart

No truer words were spoken since Mel Gibson's Braveheart wooed people into wearing kilts and tossing giant stones at parties. And if we, IGN, must unite the clans, so be it. The time has come. After hearing about the Xbox 360 for months now and wondering what will be good, bad or ugly, the system finally arrives today. Where do you stand? Buying? Not buying? Chickening out? Afraid to jump into the future? Remember what William Wallace said: "If we join, we can win."

Whether you know it or not, it's time for war. Microsoft has thrown the first salvo, and it's the Xbox 360, a multimedia, super-powerful console that is about to stoke the fire of the next generation -- not Sony's vaporware-sucking-boomerang-fax-machine monstrosity. Where are the vents? When is it actually coming out? Is that boomerang controller for real? How expensive will it be? So many good questions left unanswered. Why in the world would you want to wait for a PS3? There are few good reason, but certainly not 10 good ones. Why buy an Xbox 360? It's obvious man! To change the tides of the war, I tell you! To make history! To rip the throne out from the fat cats over at Sony and bring choice, flexibility, customization and great online gaming to the masses. Why buy an Xbox 360? William Wallace said it best -- For "FREEEEEEEDOOMMMM!"

10. First-Party Exclusive Games
Say what you will about Kameo: Elements of Power, but you can neither deny its beauty or its next-generation gameplay. The platformer-adventure game has honest to goodness platformer feel -- just like a brand new Nintendo game. Guess some of that time working with Nintendo rubbed off after all. Then there's the sleek, powerful racer Project Gotham Racing 3, a stellar looking game with a huge set of features, svelte-looking licensed cars, and some of the best potential online games available. What can top that? Perfect Dark Zero, Rare's first-person shooter, may very well lead the online charge with as many as 32-players online in a sequel to top all sequels. All of these titles are gorgeous, they're all unique, and they're all exclusive. Remember Sony's 2000 launch on PS2? It had zero first-party presence then. What will it bring when the piper comes calling next year? It sure won't be NFL GameDay.

9. Wireless Controllers
Nintendo started the revolution, and Microsoft has just grabbed the torch and lit up the wireless heavens. Microsoft is launching its system with built-in wireless capabilities with both controllers and Internet connectivity. If you get the Premium Pack, your controller will be wireless and ready to go right out of the box. The freedom of motion is excellent, the range is superb -- more than 30 feet -- and the ergonomic construction is well thought out. Skip wires, tangles and…boomerangs! It's all about the Xbox 360 wireless controllers.

8. The Xbox 360 Launch Lineup
Yes, it's been said the launch lineup isn't the greatest in the world, and any dumb-ass can repeat what he's heard on a message board without really knowing what he's saying. The facts are these: Never in the history of consoles has there been a better all-around lineup. No, there aren't any knock-out single games that will bowl you over, but several are right there on the cusp. The 19 titles appearing before the end of this year on Xbox 360 represent a healthy, well-rounded set of games led by Microsoft's very own trio of spanking hot titles. With exclusive titles like Condemned: Criminal Origins, Dead Or Alive 4, Amped 3, and a handful of sequels such as Call of Duty 2, Need For Speed Most Wanted, and Madden NFL 06 available, the roster has variety, exclusives, and refined, well-established sequels to lead the way. My five must-have titles are Call of Duty 2, Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo, King Kong, and Condemned.

7. Backward Compatibility
In a surprise that caught everyone off-guard, Microsoft announced last week more than 200 Xbox games would be backward compatible with Xbox 360. The list was indeed strange, including losers such as SeaWorld: Shamu's Deep Sea Adventures, Toxic Grind, and Circus Maximus, but it offered dozens more to make the feature worth your while. We're still scratching our heads over some of these best sellers (Drake, Dinotopia, Goblin Commander, and Kids Next Door: Operation VIDEOGAME? Come one!), games such as Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance II, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, Deathrow, and Half-Life 2 are on the list. Expect more to come each week to appear on your backward compatible list.

6. Xbox Live Arcade
The most over-looked feature of the system, the arcade marketplace will be the second most visited location on your Xbox 360, after the launch screen. Free games, cheap games, addictive, non-stop $10 exclusive arcade games…the list goes on. It's only a matter of time before the Japanese biggies bring their arcade classics -- Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, etc. This is a fresh slate upon which a new arcade revolution is about to be launched. Watch this space closely and you'll see a system grow in leaps and bounds.

5. Impressive Graphic Power at Good Prices
Microsoft continues to give consumers choices. The two-tiered launch price scheme is a perfect example of this flexibility -- $299 or $399 for a system. With the PS3, Sony has essentially stated it will be expensive, so keep this in mind when the PS3 hits shores in…November. With the Xbox 360's three 3.2 GHz processors running alongside a 500 MHz ATI graphics processor, this console is loaded with power. Some of the current-gen titles like PDZ, PDR3, Call of Duty 2 and Condemned wrangle with the power, and they all look gorgeous having not even scratched the system's surface.

4. Multimedia Hub
Along with playable games, rippable CDs and playback movies ready at launch, the Xbox 360 enables players to customize their MPEG music sticks with perfectly designed playlists in addition to connecting to Microsoft's Media Center for a more complete media sensation. Stream music from your iPod and synch it with images from your last holiday vacation. Play music to the Jeff Mintner visual synchronizer and customize the desktop with themes and gamer tiles and have fun doing it. Expect Sony to copy much of Microsoft's innovations.

3. Xbox Live Marketplace
While it doesn't fit into most folks' traditional notion of a console, the Xbox 360 offers a dynamic online commerce center. When you're not downloading free stuff like demos, trailers and extra bonus packs from game developers, you'll be spending cash on low-cost items such as bonus levels, expanded levels, episodic content, specialized gamer tiles and GamerCard tag images. Some of it is free, some costs cash, all are dependent on the developers and publishers. Expect this to grow and flourish as the committed users and companies quickly build it into a dedicated gaming center.

2. GamerCards
Microsoft's GamerCard seems like a simple enough idea. So your name and an image appear as you log onto your account, right? Yes, but there's more. It quickly becomes more for even a semi-committed Xbox Live user. It's your passport, representing your image, your scores, your games of choice, your motto, bio and more. The GamerCard becomes you ID card into the community of Xbox Live and it's how you'll learn and understand the people you play with and against and those you befriend. It's not only fun to create, it's fun to explore other people's GamerCards, which offer their game favorites, game achievements, and their most recent progress on their most recently played games.

1. The Next Generation Now
The Xbox 360, in my opinion, is a must-have system right now because it's the most powerful, sophisticated, and dedicated game system on the planet. It's built for gamers, tailored to their needs, and it's rich with tools to let them go a little nuts on customizing and choose their community. There is easily a rich top-five list (like mine), and getting online and screwing around with arcade games and online games is just the beginning.

The best thing about the Xbox 360's early launch is that it's a good investment now that will pay off later with greater profits. If you buy it now, you'll earn a reputation online and build your achievements list out, gaining traction ahead of your slow-ass PS3 friends. You'll be able to take part of the next generation as it emerges. Right now, there are 19 games ready to play, but that's only for this year. Come next spring, a gaggle of new games will hit your local retail store with a satisfying thud. Fight Night 360, Burnout, Full Auto, Top Spin 2, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, and more are in the pipeline just getting ready for their glimmering launch days on Xbox 360. All of these will be out before PS3 launches in…spring in Japan and fall in North America? Hmm… That's one year from now. Have we mentioned the Japanese games Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Ninety-Nine Nights, and the others? Then in late 2006 and in 2007, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Too Human, Fight Night 360, Crackdown, and Halo 3 are lining up.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are the top 10 reasons to buy an Xbox 360. These are reasons to break from the motherland and establish our freedom. These are the justifications for console WAR! It's time to unite the Xbox clans in a way we've never imagined, and yes, we might sound a little crazy right now, but it's gotten to that point. When we saw the laughable, tragic 10 reasons not to buy Xbox 360 from our buddies at IGN PS3, we quickly established these. We understand this is in effect fanboy fodder, flame-fanning, and torruous for those who simply cannot control their reactionary rantings. But it's also pretty clear our reasons are superior, and most importantly, we have heart, soul, and our system isn't just a funky fax machine image on paper, it's real and it's now.

GO 360!! Although that said, I will probably end up buying both at some point.

while the hollywood brother thinks that both are going to be great gaming machines, the hollywood brother find it funny how many people are turning on the playstation 2 after all the fuss they made a few years back when it was hard to come by

Iwatched a bunch of reviews on xplay and the killer app is call of duty 2. Madden 2006 is a huge let down for the sports fans. Kameo element of power is something for the kids. Project gotham racing is a decent racer but has some let downs like the lack of different cars to race and no real in-game play list. Another real cool game is Condemed, a type of mystery/survival horror game. Id rather wait maybe till christmas for the xbox 360. For me, I havent found a real reason to shell out 300 dollars.

As for the ps3, well yeah im probably gunna get it. All sony needs to do is provide killer title sequels from devil may cry, metal gear, final fantasy, grand theft auto. Pretty much anything that made money on the ps2. I played killzone one on ps2 and I have to say that it was a huge let down. Tons of bugs and gameplay issues. Hopefully, if killzone improves these, they can have a killer shooter.

I won't buy an Xbox as I'm just not a hard-core gamer and the Xbox has a reputation for being only for real serious players.

So i was gonna get a PS3...I dont mind waiting longer. I'll be waiting for the first big price drop anyway.
But now I hear that they're going to install a thing on the discs that will make it impossible to play a game on any system other than the one it was first played on.
That means NO buying used games. NO renting games. NO bringing games to a friend's house. I'm sorry...but that's f&%$ed up.

So I'll most likely be getting a Revolution. I LIKE the controller. Sue me.

hell no, I wont sue; I'm a nintendo fan. Never had an Xbox, had a gamecube+ps2. I'll probably have ps3+revolution as well. (revolution looks cute anyway. 😱) I'll add a comparison pick.

revolution controller scares me. I gotta like move around to make the character move. :weird:

Yeah? You know when playing driving games it helps to leeeeaaaan way over when making that tight turn anyway. ^^

Where did you hear that? I don't know, but if it's true, I think it would be a very dumb move by sony... (I would like to say that I don't really think thats possible, but not willing to bet on it though)

I'll most likely(99% of the chances say so) get a revolution and wait to see how the big x360 ps3 war develops until I get either one(I think getting both would probably be a waste), mainly cause rev is supposed to be a less powerfull cheaper console and will concentrate on exclusive products, as for the other two, it will all depend on what they show and most importantly the price range they present...
Besides, I'm happy with my current consoles and am still eagerly waiting for Zelda:TP, that should keep entertained along with RE4, played it 12 times and still going(between both Gamecube and PS2 versions), I know, I must be sick :weird:

I heard this when the story first broke several weeks ago I think (saw it on ATOS and a couple other places). Though now that I look it up again it seems this isn't considered a possibility anymore. There's always the possibility that Sony just let this info out to see how people would react to it and/or to get people talking about the PS3 in the midst of the 360's earlier release.
Seeing this now I will reconsider. I'll still wait til it's way cheaper to get a PS3 but I'll probably end up getting a revolution first anyway. The controller just intruiges the hell out of me.

the hollywood brother heard a rumor that some x box systems are crashing and not all they cracked up to be just yet

did you know the creator of Xbox 360 doesn't even like games? :weird:

As for the revolutions controller, I love it! 😀 I broke my wrist+elbow at one point a few years ago, and found myself unable to turn my arm either way. Made gaming a living hell...played computer games instead. 😛 So, a controller like that, well...it would be cool. 😎

Anyway, Nintendo's been a little quiet lately, not showing anything too interesting. (Latest, Mario Party 7+the Mario Sports Games). I think they want to impress people as much as possible.

Well, it's true that some people have had some trouble with the x360, but microsoft has actually been quite quick to respond, they already opened a line for the defective consoles to be reported, 1-800-4MY-XBOX (actual number), so here is how the line works, you call in your defective console, they have a pre-paid shipping box overnighted to you, you send your console and a fixed or replaced console will arrive 5 bussiness days after they receive your damaged one... pretty sweet huh? At least in theory, I haven't really heard of any satisfied customers yet, but haven't heard complains either, so?

Same here... also, PS3 seems to be pointing to the same price range as the XBOX 360 on launch, 300-400 bucks, apparently sony plans to subsidize the cost of the blue-ray(or at least a big part of it) to keep the new console at a lower cost, still a bit expensive though, considering it's the price for just the console and a controller, so ad on the games and accesories :wooha:

I'm not the gamer I used to be. If I do get one of these systems it will probably be the PS3. I don't plan on buying one though. These days there just aren't enough games I like to warrant making a large investment like this. And if you stand back and look at what you're spending money on, it's just entertainment that you could get any number of other ways.

Its sickening to me that people would rob someone at gunpoint for one of these consoles or trample someone in a mad dash frenzy to the electronics department.

Furthermore, I would sooner see myself MAKING these games and making MONEY for making them, than playing these games and draining my bank account just to keep me content for an hour here and an hour there.

You also have to consider how much use this system will actually get. I'd imagine most people willing to pluck down $400 or more are either hardcore gamers, or folks who do not have busy schedules or more important commitments. That, or the people actually PAYING for these games and consoles are the parents. And if this is the case, if I was a parent, my child would have to really convince me that this system is a necessity, especially when such an item costs so much.

Sony embedded hidden software in music CD's supposedly to prevent illegal copying. However, this software opened up a backdoor for hackers and virus-writers, and removing it caused damage to many peoples' computers, so consumers are now suing Sony.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,174334,00.html

They showed something about that on ATOS, Missy Val. They were reading the end-user agreement of the music cds and it had some really weird things in there.
Like you're not allowed to play the cd from a computer at work.
If you declare bankruptcy you must delete all music you ripped to your computer.
some weird stuff.

I read in the Washington Post that Sony will make PS3 between $400-$500 (most likely $500), because they want people to buy it only if they really want it. And they believe this'll work, because they used the same tactic on the PSP; and look at how many were sold! The thing is, I cant help but wonder if more people would have bought PSP's if it cost around $150, like the DS? 😛

I'm not sure how reliable this is but I also heard that Sony (xbox too I think) is taking a big loss with each system sold because they cost more to manufacture than what they're selling them for.

huh, well, that might explain it...so it seems that so far, Revolution is the only perfect console....or does anyone have any info against that? 😀

The thing holding the revolution back is that people are pretty split on the controller. They're either way for it or totally against it.
Myself, it's weird but Im willing to give Nintendo the benefit of the doubt. They've produced so many highly innovative things and only a few things that have totally flopped. I trust them to know what they're doing and I expect it to kick some major ass. Nintendo has always catered to the less hard-core gamer which is right up my ally. They aren't really competing for the same customers that Sony and Xbox are so it makes sense for them to use that to their advantage and take their own next-gen console in an entirely different direction.

you a mario fan? 😉 I'm that, + Zelda. I remember when I first got the gamecube; I kept it secret for a while, for it seemed that PS2 and Xbox are what were "cool", and gamecube was for kids...after a while, it turned out, people got jeleaus, and kept on swarming in to play some super smash bros. 😛

And the new controller really just supprised me, then nothing more. I imagined what it would be like for a while, then left it at that.
