According to most of the latest scientific research into the 'whys' and 'wherefores' of tickling, most experts seem to agree that our reflexive flinchings and yelpings are wired into us to alert us to possible harm or potential pain(like creepy-crawlies on us and so forth). You know, stuff that may go way back to our cave-dwelling days.

I know many will likely differ, but I do tend to feel that there is a direct correlation between tickling and pain. It's that split second when the body isn't sure exactly what is happening that intrigues me the most. This is why I feel that it can add immensely to safe, sane, modern-day tickling games to add just that little bit of bondage and hints of pain to the proceedings. If one isn't sure whether they're going to get a swat on the ass or a stroke across their soles, it adds to the excitement and urgency of the proceedings.

Anyway, I know others may feel differently, and I open the floor to both opposing viewpoints and those with similar views that may very well be expressed better than I have managed with this opening post.

I eagerly await any replies on the subject! 😛aw:

I personally do not like pain at all but I do believe that the response to tickling is because of fear of not knowing what is coming.Since most ticklish spots are vulnerable spots during attack I believe it is a defense mechanism.Like nervous laughter.Laughter that comes in anticipation.

Studies show that the nerve tracts for the sensation of tickling are the same as those that carry sensation for pain...

There is a connection...and although I'm not a huge fan of pain, I'm with Sir Tibbler in the thought that it is perhaps a vestige of a protective mechanism from the earliest days of humanity...hooray for evolution!!!!

Ever concise, Angel has for the most part brought to light the core of my own personal opinion on the two. I believe that pain and tickling, when used in sexual play, are quite the fantastic combination. Even without actual pain play, simply the use of uncomfortable bondage might prove distracting enough to keep a sub from focusing on tempering their reactions to tickling. For an even heightened experience of the same thought, mixing pain play and tickling leaves the victim unable to get accustomed to either sensation. The proper application of pain will sensitize an area, leaving the tickling to be felt even more keenly once the lingering ache starts to fade. Of course the reverse is true, and that once the sub is laughing hysterically, it makes it virtually impossible to ignore the sudden strike of a crop or sting of electricity.

I can be so well written when I wanna be. 😀

I translate.

You put the lime in the coconut and shake it all around. Pain is hawt.

My two cents... Samantha is fun to hurt. I just wish I had more specialized tools at my disposal, or more varied stuff around the house with which to conjure things into being!!

i've heard there are two types of spanking..one for discipline..one for erotica..the only type i've ever experienced was the one for discipline during my last tickle session...and owie...it hurt..

i do know that when you use a wooden spoon to whack yourself good on the bottom of your feet, after the pain recedes, you are ever so much more ticklish..i tried that once as an experiment..but i whacked myself a bit too good...

i do know my best friend has often said i need a good spanking at least once a day...i was like wtf??? lol...ah well...

Wewt. I knew I liked ya for a reason. 😀

Bingo! That is the core of what I'm trying to get at with this whole line of thought.

As a side note: I really dig those Hogtied.com(and some other outfits) videos where they give the bound woman a voice in the matter. She can actually choose her punishment, so to speak. They use tickling for that one alot. So, she might be getting whipped, and when she can't take the pain any longer, she'll yell, "Tickling!", and they'll tickle her until she can't take that, so she'll yell, "Whipping!", and so on and so on. Of course, these are an extreme form of the whole concept, but it makes for a saucy session.

call me a panzie and just give me tickles. pain gives me the willies. though if my 'lee wanted pain, i'd be very happy to ablige.

I've never thought of tickling as annoying unless it was my Grandma doing it or my mom when I am mad but other then that I thought it was fun

Even for those of us not into pain, a punctuation (candle wax dripped on a nipple) can be fun. I have never liked the videos with extended flogging sessions: don't see the fun in that for the victim.

yeah,I saw this one picture where the girl's butt was all red and bleeding and covered with welts I felt bad for her

Ah. I remember the time that I left Samantha's ass black and blue.

Good times, good times. Okay not really, it hurt so bad that it kept her from being able to enjoy dinner. But it was fun while it happened.

The same endorphin rush we all get form tickling, some folks get from pain.

Flogging, whips, spanking, clips, needle play, electricity play, fire play, biting...I've seen lots. It might not be for me, but if it does it for someone else, who am I to judge?

I echo Bella/Sammi's sentiment--Diff'rent Strokes for Diff'rent Folks...and so on, and so on...

It might benefit you, Queen, to read up on the BDSM community and the many flavors therein. You will learn a lot!!! I know I sure have...and I don't look at life the same way.

But you know what the REALLY great thing is?

Most of the people that I've met over the years who were into some serious pain-play in their sensual games told me there's no way that they'd ever want to "suffer" tied tickling! I've just always gotten such a kick out of that.

Personally, I can "take" an 'Intermediate'-level of pain if it's something she's into, but I much prefer it just as little lite punctuations spread throughout a mostly tickling session. Keeps the "captive" in the fantasy-scenario/power-exchange/whateveryouwannacallit guessing.

all of this is interesting.I always thought nobody liked to be in pain but then,I am now learning waaaaaaay differently

Well, that's called masochism🙂

And while tickling is my "prime" fetish, I do enjoy an occasional bastinado and/or whipping... or some other form of pain.

However, all of those are just tools to achieve one thing: to break your sub.

I usually prefer tickling to pain since pain only works one-way: you bring your sub to the point where they will shout: "please, stop! I'll do anything..." or something like that.

Now, with tickling it is different. If done slowly, there is also this erotic... or at least pleasant component included. Now, before I say anything else, I'd like to say that most ticklers forget one thing: when breaking someone, you are aiming to break the mind, not the body. Your actions and your words need to be aimed to make them fear and anticipate the next stroke, to place their mind into a situation where even the lightest touch will matter, all with the purpose of placing the ticklee in the state where they don't know whether to beg of you to stop or to beg of you to continue. You need to completely and utterly shatter their will, to the point where it is clear for them: you are the master, and they are the slave.

Now, beyond this point, as I said, tickling has the advantage of offering two different sensations. You can keep your ticklee in the aroused state, so close yet so far from orgasm, for a long time, still tickling them, having them obey your every command in this twisted state. At the same time, they wish for the tickling to stop, but at the same time continue. Pain does not have that wonderful property. That is why I prefer tickling to pain, though I do enjoy both.

I'm Rick Tibbler, and I totally endorse this message. 😛aw:

I agree with your thoughts on how to break a sub, but I think you overlook the fact that for some people, pain is as desireable as being tickled. The proper application if pain isn't to just lay into someone until they're begging because it hurts, but also to achieve that understanding that the Master is in charge. Forms of pain play can be easily used just as delicately and tactically as the tickling you describe, building the same feeling of anticipation.

But that is a notion that most ticklephiles seem to overlook in my experience. Much like Marie, they can't seem to wrap their head around the idea that for some pain is as much a turn on as tickling, and that it can be used as more than simply a blunt tool, but also as a precision instrument.
