Politicians!

Exhibit A:

Well, if you believe the official stories you're being told, that's fine. But I believe that there should be better explanations for why the World Trade Center towers collapsed the way they did (it looked like a controlled demolition to me), why seven of the alleged "hijackers" are still alive, ...QUOTE]

No further questions, Your Honor. The Prosecution rests. Mama always told me never to argue with a looney. (Ah, California, home of more flakes and nuts than every Kellog's warehouse in Battle Creek, Michigan put together.) :sowrong:

I apologize for sending this thread off-topic; I just wanted to present another viewpoint about politicians, but I'll leave it alone now. For some reason the discussion has turned personal, anyway, and my goal was not to offend anyone, and definitely not to inspire name-calling. But then, I often forget that people are quite sensitive about their political beliefs, just as I am.

*bows out -- whether gracefully, I don't know 😛 *

Jim, wouldn't it be easy to blame this on a cultural difference between the UK and the US? LOL 😉

You know, I think I figured out the reason for our difference as well. It goes hand in hand with what you're saying.

I'm viewing the whole thing from the side of hope in the eyes of the masses and you're seeing it from the side of someone who is disappointed in the system. No harm no foul there hon. I believe that we both long for the theory to work in practice better than it does.

PERHAPS, I could persuade you to just take a peek at the whole without the bias of frustrationa (which is hard I know) and see what I see, which is a premise that works better than many alternatives but only works if enough people play the game.

MAYBE....just maybe, you might not be 100% right that it would never make a difference. Give it a chance in other words. Don't ever think that I've not been just as bitter about the system as you seem to be right now. BUT...I decided that the wouldn't take away what little power I had. SOMETIMES my single voice makes a difference. I once was a council member in town, and though I didn't change the highest votes in the country, I did change parts of my world. I'm just pleading with you not to give up on the process because of the current powerhead. Intelligent people who back out of the system are the truest downfall of it. Would be very sad to see.

Joby...*cue the music and bring out the flags* 😛

My problem with the current system Joby, is that the current powerhead have been in charge since the beginning of human history. I'm not disgusted with Tony Blergh and his cronies, although they certainly make my guts heave. I'm disgusted with the string pullers and the puppetmasters. There are certain people who can pull so many damn strings that they decide who will be the candidates presented by the three main parties in Britain and almost to the letter what their policies will be. Whether 1% or 100% of the registered voters turn out will make no difference to a single policy or a single human soul.

I'm delighted to hear that you used to be a councillor. Knowing you as I do, I'm sure you threw as much power into that job as you had at your disposal. My personal crusade is about setting people free from the bonds that are so easy to break if they can only raise their eyes from the latest damn soap opera. I also feel that too many people have given away their minds and freedom. I also am doing as much as I can to help every person I come into contact with, through whatever media or indeed, whatever medium. That is so important to me, that politics have become irrelavent. Maybe one day I will get the "burn" to participate in them again, but at the moment that day is a long way off.

Ohhh. I like disagreeing with you~!
Let's do this again sometimes. Hard pressed to find a subject you and I don't agree on, isn't it?? LOL

Indeed it is! 😀 In fact I think this is the first time we've managed it!

However, at the bottom of it all we'll always agree on the most fundemental points.

1/ Even still, we agree on the important points.

2/Every person is indivual, unique and important.

3/Even a single person can make a difference.

4/Personal freedom is the most important thing in the world. Even a person in chains can be free and even a person who appears free can be a captive if they've given their mind and personal decisions away to someone else.

Heh heh.....when it boils down to it, I have the world's most fiendish one track mind!
