I've always loved Jackie's music! I heard it through the grapevine that Motown Records bass player James Jamerson played bass on "Higher And Higher" but he couldn't let Barry Gordy know about it or he'd be fined. His contract only allowed him to play on Motown songs.

Man you guys are killin me here there is so much great stuff. Bugman thanks for the wonderful Joan Baez and General Zod your choices are wonderful too. Featherfingers thanks for the James Jamerson tribute. "I was made to love her" is a bass playing tour de force". As you know Im a bassist myself and still listen to that record with religious ferver!! I even had the Jamerson tribute Book by Dr Licks with the CD. Bugman I see you seem to like folk music and Im going to find some Dylan, I wonder if you seen the PBS special on Dylan? Anyway guys keep it coming when I see songs that bring back memories its truly moving!!

Joy Division was hugely influential even though they were only active 4 years (the only band that's ever been as disproportionately influential despite a limited body of work is The Sex Pistols). This might strike some as absurd, but I think that if Ian had lived, the could have ended up on the same level as the Beatles or the Stones.
