Prayers and good thoughts requested for my mom...

In more recent news...

Unfortunately, I learned just the other day that mom will need to go through chemotherapy after all. While we all realized this was a possibility, it still sucks. I am praying for the best possible outcome.

^ Hope the collective good thoughts will ease the hardship she is going through as well as the pain of those who love her. Like I extended my wishes through your visitor message box, I am again saying it here. Hoping the best for your mom.

Hi Adam,

Sorry to hear the news.

Attached is a great personal essay about being a support person for a loved one with cancer. Something to read during the long waits...

Hang in there man. I know you're being strong.

Breast cancer. Diagnosed today. Doesn't smoke, doesn't drink and we have no family history. Localized and prognosis is good, but still scary. Extremely. I am fucking beside myself, not knowing what to expect. I just know that I need to be strong around my mom. She needs me right now.

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED.

And it angers me.

Though I am not exactly what you would call religious, i shall pray for your mother to beat this. My own family is going through a cancer diagnosis, and I know every little bit of support helps.

First chemo session tomorrow morning. Yay. 🙁

Keep the faith Bro.....thoughts are with you and mom....

I appreciate the kind words, Ray. Mom told me a few days ago, that next month, she is getting her head shaved. Insurance has already covered what would have been a $400 wig. Eh. So, I told mom to do what she thinks is right for her. But, maybe hold off on the head-shaving until hair loss is a definite? I dunno. She seems positive that this is what she wants. I will support her, no matter what. Just sucks, regardless.

Indeed it does and sometimes it is harder on the family members for we feel so helpless...

Supporting her wishes is the absolute best thing you can do...making her happy will help to make things easier for you as well...

Well, the good news is that the first day of chemo went very well. Mom was there for a good 11 hours. Not all of it was spent getting chemo, but they do, initially, have to proceed slowly and watch for bad reactions to it. So she was definitely tired once she got home. Subsequent treatments are supposed to be in the 6 to 6 and a half hour range. Mom wasn't feeling all that great today, but tells me, "If this is the worst of it, I can handle it." Thing is, I have heard it gets harder as chemo continues. So we shall see. I've been spending a lot of time with her lately, and will of course get her anything that she may need.

Please know that I am praying for you. I understand what it is like to go through this with a loved one. I truly hope all continues to go well and she gets better every day.

I didnt see this thread until just now. Adam, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom as she goes through the chemo. I hope she is able to beat the cancer, and make a full recovery.

Mitch

So, Mom decided to shave her head this past weekend, as a result of the expected chemo-related fallout. Doesn't look bad, actually. Not totally bald or anything. Just very, very short. The other night, I saw the wig she has the option of using. Quite a beautiful one. She'll steal everyone's hearts while wearing it. 🙂 In any case, I like how her energy has been coming back. Thank you again for all the support, ladies and gentlemen.

I am so sorry!!!!!

Adam,

I am so sorry to hear that your mom has breast cancer. I understand that you need to be strong around your mom, but your mom may need to break down every now and then because everything becomes to much for her. I am sending you prayers of healing for your mom.

David

Aww bald moms are cute! 🙂 I used to tell my mom how adorable she was all of the time when she lost her hair during her chemo treatments. We used to go to the fabric store and buy fabric to make bandanas for her head and would keep with the holiday themes.....one of my personal faves was the one she wore for St. Patty's Day that had beers and clovers on them lol. Peanuts was another fave. And mom was a good sport about it....she used to let us decorate her head with stickers and all kinds of fun stuff. She had a wig too she used at first but it would make her head itchy so she stopped wearing it.....more fun for us! We used to wear it hehe. I'm so happy to hear that you mom's energy is coming back!!!! That's always a wonderful thing. Thanks for the update about you mom!!! :twohugs:
